  • Since surgery almost four months ago, I have had the same problem, but the surgeon's nurse told me not to worry that this is normal. The further out I am from surgery the better it gets. It is just the body's way of recovering from the surgery. I don't feel this way all the time and it seems to hit me now usually for about…
  • It doesn't really bother me that much what my friends or family are eating, but rather how big the portions are at a restaurant. We went to Logan's yesterday for lunch and my hubby ordered a bacon cheese burger, when it came I asked him if he was going to be able to get his mouth around it! lol I had the boneless chicken…
  • Hi! I am 3 months post op for Gastric Bypass and it has been the best decision I ever made! I am now on only two medications and other health issues have gradually been clearing up. Since I started this journey, they have figured that I have lost 80 lbs over all. It is definitely scary to think about having it done, but…
  • I started using a B-Complex with Biotin Shampoo from Avalon that I get at Meijer. I started using pre-surgery and I make sure that I get in over 60 grams of protein to keep it from falling out.
  • Thanks you! It's not easy, but I believe that all anyone needs is the right support behind them on their journey.

  • I found out from the surgeon what is going on with my belly button. He told me it is a fungus, kind of like athlete's foot and the best thing to use for something like this is Nystatin. I just wanted to let you all know just in case anyone should encounter this thing. Evidently it is because it's a warm dark place that is…
  • I am 3 months out also and I can do Angel Food cake with strawberries and a little bit of homemade whipped cream. Also sugar free items won't give her the possible dumping syndrome that regular items with sugar will. If you put in a search for sugar free or bariatric desserts it should pull up some good websites to look at…
  • From what I've been told by members in my surgical group here, most who have the RNY are unable to eat the lettuce because it is too rough on the pouch and does not digest well, but one lady suggested spinach, because it is milder and digests better. I haven't been brave enough to try it. I have enough problems with beef.…
  • Welcome, You meet lots of great people who will help you through this journey you are. I had the RNY on March 13, 2012 and since the surgery I have lost 43 lbs, but have lost 73 lbs overall. It is a daily learning process. I wish you much success.

  • I find that now with every pound I lose, that there is something else I want to do that I never did before, because of the weight. I was thrilled a couple of weeks ago when I bought single digit underwear instead of the double digits. I went shopping the other day and bought a blouse that looks really good on me and it is…
  • Everyone has some really great goals! I am always looking for new ones. I went and had my very first pedicure last week and I will definitely do this again! I'm volunteering to work on my class reunion, something I would never have done before..
  • I had thought about having the lap band a few years ago, but like the others changed my mind. For me I knew in my heart it wasn't the right fit for me. I had Gastric Bypass on March 13, 2012, and for me it was the best decision, considering the co-morbidities I had at the time I had it. I had tried all kinds of diets all…
  • Hi! I had the Gastric Bypass surgery in March of 2012. Like yourself, I have heard all kinds of stories about all the different surgeries out there. Let me say none of them are an easy decision to make. I chose not to do the lap band, because of the number of times I would have to go in for fills and it simply wouldn't…

  • Hi Kelly, Don't worry to much, you need time to adjust to your new body. I still have times where I feel self conscious if I wear something that maybe a little fitted or forming. I also still feel like you do if someone is looking at me or gives me a compliment. I think at least for me the key has been to pamper myself a…
  • i do a protein shake in the morning first thing, it's easier on the stomach and is recommended to get a jump on protein. I usually do the protein powder for it. I eat my food in the middle of day and do a snack usually around 4-5 pm and then make another protein shake at night, once again my doctor recommends the liquid is…
  • Actually I wanted the sleeve, but I have Priority Health Medicare and they wouldn't pay for it at the time. The surgeon here was excellent and he only does the open route. He has found other things and saved a few lives. The other surgeons at the time were not okayed yet to do laparoscopic. The binder isn't so bad. I…
  • If you think that it will be an issue for your recliner, you can rent a lift chair that will help you to a standing position. Here in Michigan they are about $35.00 a week. I didn't need one, but some people swear by they. There are also the toilet seats that can elevate you high to get off them. The first week to 10 days…
  • It sounds like you should be fine on the surgeon's end, just a matter of the insurance okaying the surgery. I didn't have a problem with that this last time. Usually they look at all the co-morbidities you have in order to okay, but the doctor needs to stress how beneficial this will be for you. Believe it or not, my…
  • Once you meet with the surgeon it goes quite fast. It was a week to two weeks for approval for me, but then every insurance company is different. What you have done ahead a time will pay off in the long run. I know it seems like some of things they put you through really aren't needed, but they are. I found the psychiatric…
  • It isn't a miracle cure for my back problems, but right after surgery, my back felt really good. I have some of the pain back, but it is no where near what it was before surgery. I was unable to walk without a cane and had constant pain, but now I am able to walk and usually alleviate the pain with a couple of Tylenol. I…

  • Welcome! I'm Theresa and I'm nine weeks post-op for open RNY. I have gradually been adding in foods, it's kind of trial and error as to what will work and what won't. I use to crave sweet things, but since surgery, I actually crave protein. I try to get in as much exercise as I can, I have lower back problems. I've lost…

  • I looked at it this way, I was going to die at a young age if I didn't do it, with all the health problems I had, or I could try to fix things by using this unique tool to pave a better future for myself. Granted there are risks with any surgery, but for me it was key to have a surgeon I had confidence in, that could do…
  • Nothing serious. It is either from a small hernia there or it could be from the excess skin pulling downwards. Just need to keep it clean with soap and water.
  • I did call her this morning and I am waiting for her to return the call. I will keep you posted. I don't think it's anything serious, but I don't want it to hinder the healing process either. Maybe I lifted something over the weekend that was a little to heavy.
  • It was an open procedure, but it isn't near the incision which has healed up nicely. Like I said it is from the belly button itself, but now it's more like it use to be, more clear fluid, but it's not like running out and soaking my clothes or anything. Still going to call the nurse tomorrow to be on the safe side.
  • I'm nine weeks out and vary between about 500-800 calories. Each day is different and I'm definitely not always feeling hungry, when I need to get protein in. I find that I tend to do a protein shake for breakfast, eat food in the middle of the day and usually finish up with a protein shake at night with a mid afternoon…
  • I'm finding having goals are definitely good!!! It doesn't matter how big or small they are, because they all count no matter what.
  • I love the input from everyone! I also want to do something to help others who are in the same situation that we all have been in, but not quite sure where to start or how to go about it. So I guess you could say that is another goal for me. There are times at night that I just want to be lazy and not walk, but my dog…
  • Set goals for yourself, even if they are small ones. It will feel terrific when you get in those size 16 jeans. I hope your surgery goes well and you have a very speedy recovery.
  • Hi!n I'm two months out from my RNY surgery and have lost 32 lbs surgery and 30 before, so I am now at 62 lbs off! I'm down to a size 16 in jeans and feel great.
