If you're eating a quality food, and you're feeling full at 2100, AND you're losing inches, I'd say stick with it. I would make sure you're eating more protein that MFP says since you're lifting weights. Other than that, I think you're doing great.

I feel like the science behind the health benefits of coconut oil is still too new for me to really hop on this train. The science behind the health benefits of monounsaturated fats (the main fat in olive oil) is much more robust, thus I stick with olive oil.

If you're doing WEIGHT TRAINING along with cardio, you're gaining muscle while losing fat. Muscle weighs more than fat, thus why the scale isn't budging while you're losing inches. Don't sweat it, keep it up and you'll drop pounds eventually. And in the mean time you'll get to see physical changes to your body, which are…

Sorry, you can't target where you're going to lose weight.

I REALLY, REALLY think a lot of people of MFP make this whole losing weight thing to complicated. By and large, the larger the difference between the calories you take in and the calories you burn, the larger your weight loss is going to be. The change in your metabolism from eating "too few" calories is really negligble.…

My life isn't that stressful, so I'm probably not the best person to ask. But I have an idea for making food easier: If you have a day or two in the week which are generally more relaxed, do more cooking on those days. Make a big pot of healthy soup that you can eat all week. Grill up some extra chicken breast or fish that…

I like the idea of bringing some healthy things to eat to social event. I always keep almonds in my purse for emergencies, and they're something I'll definitely pull out when all my friends are eating tacos off the taco truck after the bar. For me, I also like to plan ahead calorie-wise for social events. If I know I'm…

Honest opinion. Ignore the IV. There was a medical reason why they gave it to you, and, IMO, you really shouldn't be thinking about how many calories were in it.

I LOVE thrifting. Congrats on the drop in sizes, and keep up the good work!

Glad to know I was only 5 pounds off on my guesstimate. Thanks for the info!

The largest number of smokers quit going cold turkey. I was suggest reading this book: http://quitober.com/pdf/AllenCarrEasyWayToStopSmoking.pdf

Bought starting strength a few months ago. Tried reading it for about a week, and there's a lot of stuff in the first chapter alone that I really couldn't wrap my head around. I don't know much of anything about the anatomy of the human body, and it wasn't very good at explaining it, in my opinion. Edit: Also, I'm not…

I'm new to this weight loss thing....I'm down 15 of 75 pounds right now, so I can't give you a lot of advice as I've never tried to lose "those last 5 pounds." I see you're not logging your water every day, though, and so I can't really tell if you're getting at least 8 glasses a day. I've been finding that drinking…

If your job requires a lot of intense physical labor, you're going to be more muscular than the average person at your height. Muscle weighs more than fat. You can have a low BF%, be very muscular, and be "overweight" according to the BMI. BMI was not created to be an indicator of individual health, actually. It was…

Ultimately, 140. I'm almost 5'8, though. What you can healthfully aim for is dependent upon your bone structure. I have a medium frame, so I'm not going to go for 120...but a good friend of mine is 5'7 with a small frame, and she looks healthy at 120.

Sulfa. My mom always suspected I was allergic to it because she's allergic to it, and my grandmother was allergic to it. So I never took it when I was growing up. A doctor prescribed it to me as an adult, and I didn't really think about it. Got full body hives. That was fun.

Looked up ketosis on wikipedia. Not the best source, of course...I'm getting a little lazy right now. It occurs not when you have a large caloric deficit, but when you aren't eating nearly enough carbohydrates. (Which is a bit different from what most people on this site refer to as "starvation mode.") Apparently, ketosis…
-
Ahhh! Too many definitions for "starvation mode."
-
Sorry...wish I had done some research before posting. I did provide a scientific source about when "starvation mode" (AKA loss of lean muscle mass) actually DOES occur a few posts down the front page. (At a net caloric intake of -1200.)
-
Nope...wasn't really planning on losing weight at all.

I'd say with the housework and the walking around you do, set it to "light."

Keep watching what you eat and working out. And drink lots of water. When you quit smoking, your mouth and hands tend to get bored along with the craving feeling you feel in your chest or stomach...which leads to chronic snacking. If you keep your mouth and hands busy and feed that craving by drinking lots of water, it…

Although I appreciate the offer, a sample size of 1 is probably not going to provide enough power to reach statistical significance. Scientist here...I'm not too terribly impressed with case studies.
-
Do you have a source for this? LeoQuin posted a thread from last year with a few good sources that indicate that a person's metabolism doesn't change for a few day after they stop eating. And when it does change, it changes negligibly.
-
I lol'd. At work. Thanks.

My therapist would totally say something like that. I really appreciate that my therapist is like a real person. I've despised all the therapists in the past who have every hair in place, sit up straight and tall as a pin, would never say anything even remotely offensive ever...

Look at the study I posted a little bit further up....they found that lean muscle was only really catabolised once a person reaches 4-6% body fat.
-
Lol. Hoping for it to get a little heated in here soon?
-
I'm glad I've found some people on here who agree. Looking through literature, I found this article conducted by Karl Friedl in which he did find a low enough calorie deficit at which lean muscle mass starts to be catabolised. http://jap.physiology.org/content/77/2/933.short In the 8 week study, the solidiers in this study…

Don't do it. Rest, rest, rest for at least 3 days. If you get too active, your blood will start pumping, and it may knock your clots out. Dry socket is the worst. I had it earlier this year in two sockets and I don't wish it even on my worst enemies.
