exercising after wisdom tooth extraction

Hey there!

Ok, so I got two wisdom teeth removed yesterday, and I'm honestly missing my normal exercise routine. I don't want to hurt myself, but i don't want to take all these days off from working out either! Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do that won't put too much strain on my recovery?

Also, food suggestions would be awesome.

Ok there are specialist exercise forums that don't get questions like this. LOL

    First; how are you?
second: what can't you do? impact or swimming etc?
third: any medical advice you've been given? re:drugs etc?

Soft foods like mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, yogurt, pudding, soups are the best for the first few days. I know you want to get back into your fitness routine, but starting too soon could be hazardous. I'd wait until at least 3-4days before trying anything too strenuous. Hope you are feeling well! Hope this helps!

One thing you might want to be SUPER cautious of for some period of time, if you do end up exercising, is drinking anything with a straw. I seem to recall something called dry socket that was possible and was said to be pretty awful. I'd do a google search if you aren't familiar with it, but I'm pretty sure you'd need to be careful how you were getting your hydration. I only mention this because I always use sip bottles at the gym...made the mistake of a screw-top bottle *once* and got drenched. :noway: :blushing:

As soon as I was off pain meds, I started exercising again and didn't have any problems!! I stayed away from running, but i biked and cross trained and felt great!

As for food, soft pastas (like macaroni), mashed potatoes, yogurt, soup (make sure its not too hot), cottage cheese, oatmeal... anything soft and not too chewy!!

    feel better soon!

Haha, hey Steve. I'm doing well.

    I can't swim. It's ****ing freezing.

Medical advice was just "don't burst the clot" and I'm on percocet, and 800mg motrin.

I ate yogurt, pudding, soup, rice, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, any food, soft foods, etc for almost a week. My sister ate steak the next day. Everyone is different. Take it easy, you do NOT want dry socket so I agree with the straw comment.
Sorry I'm not helpful on the exercise portion. I'm going to guess nothing strenuous where you might be winded or clenching your teeth/jaw. You'll probably be fine in a couple days
  • Don't do it. Rest, rest, rest for at least 3 days. If you get too active, your blood will start pumping, and it may knock your clots out. Dry socket is the worst. I had it earlier this year in two sockets and I don't wish it even on my worst enemies.

I agree with this. I had a molar extracted a couple of weeks ago and I waited 4 days before doing anything and stuck to lower-level cardiovascular for several days after that. My rule was to stay below any intensity that caused it to throb. Sometimes you just have to take off and not worry about it.
