  • Many veggies are delicious when roasted in the oven (or outdoor grill) with olive oil, salt and pepper (brussel sprouts, cauliflower, okra, broccoli, sweet potatoes, turnips, carrots, mushrooms, peppers, onion.....). Steaming is another great tool for veggies (with a little spray butter and salt after). If you don't have…
  • Eat with your kids. Throw together a salad in a bag and pre-cooked chicken breast if you're in a hurry. Floss and brush your teeth after dinner so you're less tempted to eat again. If you DO eat again, eat fruit, nuts or something healthy. Good luck.
  • Maybe it's shaved from areas where your clothes don't necessarily touch, like your face, ankles, arms? I generally notice weight loss in my face and limbs first.
  • I'm certainly not fit and do free weights every time I go to the gym. Just figure out what you need to do and do it! :) Start light and add weight if it's "easy" the first set. Good luck!
  • There will always be obstacles in life, the older you grow, the more obstacles there are...job responsibilities, children needing attention, family members ill, etc. You just have to make the decision for yourself. Will you find the time to treat yourself right (i.e. exercise and eating mostly healthy) or not? You don't…
  • Hi Chloe. Perhaps if you open your diary so others can view your diet, folks can provide some helpful alternatives to the food you are eating. Good luck!
  • Water, water, water! Sometimes a G2, "diet" cran-grape juice, or a watered-down lemonade. Oh yeah, and beer on the weekends! ;)
  • Sip on some wine, then get something healthy for dinner, like steamed veggies and fish (not in butter!), or have a healthy appetizer for your dinner if they have one (i.e. smaller portion). If you have time, try to get in some exercise (walking?) or just plan to burn extra calories this weekend to make up for it. Don't…
  • I looked at the last 2 weeks of your diary and would recommend adding (a lot) more fruits and vegetables. I do see banana and apples, but how about adding berries, oranges, pears, etc? As for veggies, there were 2 entries with corn and only one other veggie entry in the last 2 weeks. One idea is steaming or grilling fresh…
  • What about abs? Only one day of crunches on your list.
  • Hi. Looks like you're doing well with keeping near your calorie goals, but here are a few suggestions from looking at the past 2 week: 1. Add more fresh fruits and veggies 2. Cut down on the processed/packaged meals, eat more fresh (homemade) foods, this can be easier than you think! 3. Replace white breads with whole…
  • Austin, Texas. Public transportation is great, tons of outdoor activities, active community life for all types. It gets really hot in the Summer, though. Not sure why bethlaf said to avoid Texas like the plague but would be interested in her reasons. Not all Texas cities are alike.... Good luck.
  • Have a variety of healthy go-to snacks that you can eat when you have a craving. Some low-cal examples are fruit, 100 calorie microwave popcorn, snackwells (the fudge-drizzled popcorn is to die for and only 130 cals per bag), raw almonds/nuts, frozen yogurt bars (100 cals), low-cal yogurt, etc. You can also try drinking a…
  • Do it for you, not for them. You deserve to feel good about yourself at any weight. Losing even a little weight and feeling good gives you confidence and strength, which can motivate you to keep going! Good luck!
  • There are other types of "fast food" places that aren't as high-calorie...like Subway and Thundercloud subs (at least here in Austin), where you can pick exactly what goes on your sandwich. A turkey sandwich with tons of veggies and spicy mustard on whole wheat is around 300-350 calories. Add a sliced apple or other fruit…
  • Lack of adequate sleep is almost always to blame when I'm short on energy at the gym. How much sleep are you getting?
  • Don't worry, it's normal to fluctuate. Just keep at it and stay focused on the long term!
  • My advice is to just start moving. Take walks around your neighborhood, try jumping jacks or jump rope, find some stairs and walk up and down several times, anything that gets you moving and used to light/moderate activity. Daily activity is recommended. The more you do, the more you CAN do. Good luck.
  • Are you doing the same routine each day? Try new exercises to work different muscles or the same muscles differently. For example, if you've been doing tricep kickbacks, maybe try dips, pulldowns or skull crushers instead (or in addition to) what you're already doing.
  • Be patient. 4 lbs in 2 weeks is awesome! Just keep doing what you're doing. Good luck.
  • I agree with Jonnythan...you probably weighed on a "low weight" day in January. Bottom line is that you've lost 10.5 pounds in 2 months! Wow! Very impressive. Keep up the good work.
  • On your 30 minute days, focus on cardio, like the elliptical or treadmill you are already doing, maybe ramp up intensity or do interval training (work in short bursts of high intensity). On the days where you have more time, continue to do cardio, but work in some weight training. You could alternate legs, arms/back, and…
  • You can make a HUGE salad with tons of veggies for low low calories if you use a low-cal dressing (like Paul Newman light balsamic) or just use lemon juice for dressing. Add water-packed tuna or a small portion of chicken breast for protein. No croutons, no cheese! Good luck.
  • Snackwell's chocolate drizzled caramel popcorn and yogurt or chocolate-covered pretzel packs. Both are delicious and 130/100 calories respectively. It really feels like I'm going hog wild eating them! If I weaken and have 2 packs, it's still not too bad from a calorie perspective. The popcorn is out of this world delicious!
  • Paul Newman's light balsamic and low-fat sesame ginger are both very good, but use sparingly as they are strong, too.
  • Hi. I took a quick peek at your diary and have a few thoughts: 1. Some days you are significantly under your calorie goal. Many on this site have agreed that not eating enough can have a negative effect on your weight loss. 2. Much of your diet consists of processed foods (i.e. packaged or instant). Even though you are…
  • Try skull crushers!
  • Some people just don't get clues easily but do understand clearly stated requests. If you haven't already, I would clearly state to him that you are not comfortable with him talking to you and you would like him to please leave you alone from now on. If he doesn't get it after that, then talk to the gym management staff.
  • Roasted corn on the cob....yum!
