Exactly. Stupid debate, but there are countless people desperate to lose 'weight' who still believe it's relevant. Humans are not measured 'weight-by-volume'.

Angry? No. This ever-repeated statement misleads an confuses people, without understanding. No. Not angry. Just trying to unravel the confusion.

Rather than think about a 'cheat day', think about this as a 'reward day', for all the positive effort you've been making. What's lacking in these forum posts is the understanding of the psychological aspect of weight (fat) loss. Rather than thinking about 'denial', consider positive progress, and reward yourself (in…

Be sure your minimum calorific intake is at least 10x=body weight/lbs to avoid 'starvation response'. Otherwise your metabolism will slow down and you'll find it harder to utilize stored fat as fuel. (I'm a professionally qualified nutritionist)

In reply to members here who insist on believing this ridiculous idea... Read the original post properly before replying. If you can't manage that, bear this in mind.... Humans are not 'weighed' by volume, so 'weight by volume' is completely irrelevant. 'Weight' is a measurement of the effect of gravity on mass. Nothing to…

Sadly.... yes :-( Idiots still believe this rubbish.
-
Humans aren't measured by volume on the bathroom scales, so the issue of 'volume is irrelevant.
-
yes
-
Thanks for your sensible (qualified) advice. Would be helpful to members here if they listened to such comments and not followed the rubbish they hear from the 'experts'.

Absolutely true. Use a tape measure rather than scales to assess fat loss.
-
True. A tape measure is a far better means of assessing fat loss.
-
So true. Thanks for a sensible post!
-
Yes, that can be true
-
Humans are not assessed through 'weight by volume'. Do your scales do this? No.
-
Read the post again...... humans are not assessed through 'weight by volume'..... only on the scales. Read posts more carefully before making stupid replies.

Muscle does NOT weigh more than fat. This is the biggest and daftest of all fitness myths. 1lb muscle = 1lb fat = 1lb muscle. They weigh exactly the same. 1kg fat = 1kg muscle = 1kg fat. They weigh exactly the same. Stick to using your tape measure. It will give you a better indication of losing excess, bulky fat.

You seem to getting things into perspective. I'd just suggest you modify your MFP goals and shift your basic dailiy intake above 1200 calories. It appears almost everyone at MFP sticks to this target and it isn't healthy, particularly for someone training for a marathon. Consider modifying your goals to a recommendened 1lb…

Low carb diets are fashionbable because they create the (illusion) of fantastic 'weight' loss. This is due to dehydration, so most of the 'weight' is actually water. It's because you're using up your carbohydrate stores which are stored with water. After a day or two of this , you can be losing protein (muscle tissue)…

Humans weight isn't assessed by volume. Bathroom scales don't measure people by any kind of 'cubic' measurement or 'volume'. They don't measure by 'cubic feet' or anything else 'cubic'. During 'weight loss' regimes, peoploe can only assess themselves by 'weight'. So the 'semantics' are irrelevant. People are simply mislead…

No, it wasn't MY opinion. It was the professionally qualified opinion of the colleague quoted. Someone who can back up his opinion with professionally qualified knowledge, worthy of respect.

The pedometer I suggested trying ('Footsteps') doesn't use satellite/GPS. Perhaps you're looking at a different app.

How good is pasta? Ask a professional athlete! Fantastic stuff, if you avoid sauces/dressings high in fat.
-
Sounds like it. Go back into 'settings' and make sure you've activated everything. Mine has always worked just fine.

Take another look at who was giving the advice...... A registered dietician with a Doctorate (PhD) in nutrition and dietetics, who ( I forgot to mention) is a nutrition consultant to several UK football (soccer in US) and UK rugby football clubs. Also to several full-time professionals in athletics and boxing.

There are also some simple and effective free pedometers worth downloading and giving a try (but others are not so good). Take a look at the 'Footsteps' app.

There seems to be a number of us at MFP who are qualified health/fitness professionals and consequently able to give sound, 'qualified advice'. Unfortunately, there are a few members who seem to think they know best and offer poor, incorrect and/or misleading advice. I chanced upon a piece of poor and misleading advice…

I've noticed this as well. There seems to be a flaw in the MFP database. To test this I entered a meal of fruits containing good levels of potassium - apricots (both fresh and dried), melon, banana, figs, prunes etc. When I checked the result on my iPhone app, it showed a potassium intake of ZERO! I'd add that these were…

If you don't have an iphone or similar, a simple pedometer can help determine pace when you're walking. However, it's most accurate if it allows you to enter your stride length.
