  • I'll have to look into the powerlift Arch. This is the first I've heard of it.
  • "The Roll of Shame"! That's awesome. I hope I'll never have to use it but if so, now I know!
  • Thanks Rob. I don't think I'll have to worry about it anytime soon, but I've not lifted weights since High School and I'm not exactly sure what my strength is now. How long have you been doing 5x5 and are you liking the results?
  • Thank you. There is one of these in the gym and I just watched the video on how to set it up properly for 5x5. I thought it was just for squats. I'm looking forward to getting started!
  • Ken, It seems your diary is private, but I would love to look through your numbers. My typical FBS is 150, today I was at 108 2 hours after lunch, and 131/133 before and after dinner respectively. Steve, Thank you for sharing your success. It is inspiring. I am starting to see the numbers go down which is awesome and very…
  • thank you, that was very interesting. Though I'm not exactly sure what I should think about my numbers now. Today I was 152 FBS when I woke, and 2 hours after breakfast I was down to 101. 101 is the lowest I've seen since I've been tracking (less than a week). I'm still hoping to hear about how this diet has helped someone…
  • Thanks Radiii! I have seen lots of posts about an immediate response to switching to a Keto diet so maybe I'm just being impatient. I have noticed that I didn't have the endurance I usually have on my run yesterday. I figured I just needed a break but it makes sense that it's because I'm not use to using Ketones for energy…
  • Different carbs are handled by the body differently (i.e. fiber doesn't get digested and provides no calories to the body). Sugar alcohols do provide calories but they do not spike the blood sugar (alcohol is burned right away without the use of insulin and the body will stay in ketosis). The purpose of the Atkins diet is…
  • I'm on a Dr. Who kick now. I usually only watch one show at a time and then move on... Next on the list.... House of Cards Sense and Sensibility Breaking Bad Walking Dead
  • lol
  • A book is a great idea. Do you have any that you recommend? I'm really going to try not to worry about the time. It will be tough but my main focus will be to finish. I am just a goal oriented person and setting a time goal will help push me. But I promise not to be disappointed if I don't hit it!
  • Wow, under 5 hours sounds great to me! I'm sure I'll walk some, though I hope I can at least "Wog" through it. Right now I don't hydrate during runs, but they aren't that long so I don't think it is needed. I have purchased a water belt and have never worn it, lol. Not really a fan of it but Im sure it will come in handy…
  • ! Yep, I'm crazy, can't deny it and thanks, I'll need it
  • Great advice, thanks! I'd love to say I don't care about the time, and I really only care about finishing, but I do want to have a decent time as well. It is going to take a lot for me to not worry so much about the time and just enjoy the race, but that's one of the reason I want to do it!
  • Yes, I was planning on waiting until next year, but then realized I turn 30 this year, not next (i can't ever seem to remember how old I am).
  • That is exactly what I need to hear!!! I have been looking for a running buddy but haven't had any luck yet, but I'll look into a group. My wife is 8 months pregnant so she wont be joining me for a while :-).
  • Main reason for lowering carbs is diabetes. I was on the edge of being diabetic for a while and I had to make a change. I honestly don't miss them and I haven't felt like I was lacking any energy while running. But I also haven't been running very long distances. I plan to upgrade my carb intake and keep it complex carbs,…
  • I plan on hitting it pretty hard, but paying attention to my shins since I get shinsplints pretty easily. I agree, my #1 priority is my wife and son, and I actually plan on doing quite a bit of running with him when it gets warmer. I've already signed up for a "Run with Dad 5k" which is stroller friendly. I obviously won't…
  • I have the Hurom Slow Juicer (Same as the omega vert). It is awesome because it is really fast, easy to clean, and doesn't make as much noise as the other centrifugal juicers. It is also much smaller and you get a lot more juice from the fruits/veggies. It can also be used for wheatgrass if you are interested in that. The…
  • ^^ This. I don't drink any soda, but my wife got a soda stream and drinks soda water with lime constantly. She uses a wine glass (she is prego and has to use them for something :-)

  • Thanks! Both look like great programs.
  • Thanks, I plan on it. There are a ton of options on how to train and I think a long goal like this will help keep me on track, Just not sure where to start. If I have to walk half of it, I"m going to finish, but I'd prefer to run most/all of it.
  • The longest is around 5 miles at a slow easy pace. The 5k is just my first race, not my first time running that distance. Though I did just start running in Jan.
  • A couple reasons really. From what I've read so far.... you only need around 6 months to train for one from scratch (again, training to finish), And I want to do it before I turn 30. Which is the weekend after the race. It is a good reasonable goal and trying to do a half in the middle of it will prolong my training and I…
  • Thanks! I know just getting out there and finishing will be awesome.
  • I have been doing some body weight exercises and I've found them very effective. I'm not really trying to build muscle now since I'm losing, but I do want to maintain what I have. Yoga is great for strengthening and toning and you need minimal equipment.
  • Awesome! Your description of the last mile really gets me pumped for the race for some reason!
  • It is a timed/chipped race. I'm hoping for the adrenalin boost and I'm not consistently running anything yet, but I'm going to progress to a couple 5k's a 8k, and 10k by the end of the year. Next year work on my half and full.
  • I don't put anything in my coffee. but I have thought about using the vanilla soy milk in it sometime and it comes "unsweetened" and normal. The normal should help sweeten your coffee.
  • I use Pandora on my phone and I have a couple stations that I have created. The one I use the most while running is my "house" station. It is always upbeat and I don't get distracted by it. It really helps me focus.
