I buy 10 lbs. or so of Springer Mountain Farms boneless chicken thighs every week or two, place them on a cookie sheet, salt & pepper them, and bake them at 350 for about 40 minutes till not pink inside. Let them cool, then dice and pkg and freeze them in ziplock bags in a thin enough layer that I can break them apart…

Unfortunately, I have experienced exactly what you are experiencing. It isn't psychological, it is physiological--your insulin is out of control. What I found worked was a couple of days of focusing on eating only protein and fat--as often as necessary and without regard to calories. I particularly focused on using coconut…

Liquid L-Carnitine and coconut oil really helped me transition with no loss of energy. the L-Carnitine helps burn fat calories for energy--I'd take 1 tsp with each high fat meal (1000 mg per tablespoon). Coconut oil is burned as energy without being processed in the liver, so it is more easily used for energy by the body.…

21 lbs. in 2 months doing Primal with less than 50 g. carbs per day and 45-65 g. protein--the rest is "good fats". I've gone on 2 several day "cheats" in that time, but have managed to climb back on the wagon--the part that has always been missing in the past. It's so obvious to me that when I cheat with carbs, all the…

I use the Tofu Shiratake noodles, especially fettuccini and spaghetti. If you rinse them well, then pop them in a microwave for 2 minutes and drain them, or dry-fry them in a skillet to remove excess moisture, they are great for chicken curry and most anything else you'd use noodles in. They have 40 calories in an 8 oz.…

My mom used to cut it in pieces, flour and brown it in a skillet, then add some water or broth, cover it and let it cook slowly. Made gravy with the liquid--delicious!

If you google "transdifferentiation" you will find that there is a lot of scientific research going on in this area. Here is one reference: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0006291X08020032 "Mature adipocyte-derived dedifferentiated fat cells can transdifferentiate into skeletal myocytes in vitro" "We have…

The most important reasons to exercise in relation to weight loss are biochemical: According to the book "Deep Nutrition", the most important roles of exercise (in regards to weight loss) are "1) increasing insulin sensitivity, which tells your fat cells to slow down the conversion of sugar into more fat. 2) It reduces the…

I don't know where the OP got her calorie info, but if you go to the Betty Crocker link, the various fillings run about 290 -400 calories for 2 pies (1 serving) so 140 - 200 calories per pie. Fine for a meal, but you need to know that they are WAY higher in calories than indicated.

After out of control carb craving and weight gain, all hunger and cravings stopped within 24 hours of going very low carb paleo and adding some healthy supplements. 3 weeks later, I'm down 13 lbs. and haven't been hungry once! Feels like a miracle! You can check my food journal for ideas--I think the biggest thing that has…

I mix up 1/2 cup raw coconut oil with 1/4 cup natural almond butter--just stir them together. I try to eat 3 servings of 1-1/2 Tablespoons per day, along with 6 -7 oz. of meat and green leafy veges. That puts me a little over 1,000 calories a day, although if I'm hungry, I'll eat more. The coconut/almond butter is yummy! I…

I'm like you--not hungry till 11. I'm a 3 pm - 9 pm eater. After reading responses here saying it's ok to shift your eating to later in the day, I'm finding it much easier to control my calories. As a matter of fact, I sometimes have difficulty eating them all. Yesterday I ate 5 oz. of turkey for lunch at 2 pm, then went…

I just saute it for about 1 minute on each side (assuming thin slices) in butter or bacon grease. You can saute a few slices of onion in the grease first if you like. If it is too intense or you don't like the way it looks, add a couple of tablespoons of cream to make a "milk gravy"--kinda neutralizes the strong flavor and…

I've never been successful at losing weight and keeping it off in the past. For me the most effective was low carb, but I always had the attitude that it was temporary and I'd be able to add them back eventually. But as soon as I added them back, my insulin would go out of control and I'd start stuffing myself with sugars…

Aha! So my instinct about low blood sugar mimicking emotional eating was correct! I realize that when I first started my eating plan the first of January, I was aiming for 40/40/20, so I was eating a lot of beans, oatmeal and other complex low glycemic carbs. That first month I felt totally in control of my eating and…

I find it hard to believe that at such an early age I was already eating emotionally, but by the time I was 4-5 years old I was climbing up and getting chocolate Exlax out of the medicine cabinet and eating it, as well as anything I could sneak from the cupboard my mom kept her baking supplies in (chocolate chips,…

My emotional eating almost always happens after 7 pm. It is much worse when I'm watching tv than if I'm not. I do think that advertisers somehow still use subliminal triggers. I believe it is boredom but I'm open to the possibility that it is loneliness. I don't allow myself to ever admit that I'm lonely (and actually am…

I have struggled with emotional eating my whole life. Recently I connected my craving for sweets to the fact that my very nurturing grandmother who lived with us always soothed our crying with a piece of candy and a hug. After she passed away, I have always reached for the sweets to sooth myself. The one question in my…

I take Vitamineral Green. Since I don't like the taste of the powder, I take the capsules - 10 a day, 5 when I get up and 5 when I go to bed. Doesn't help with weight loss but is an incredible natural supplement that seems to give me energy. Since I eat so much crap and so few healthy vegetables, I consider this the…

I had the same thing happen 2 weeks ago when I added strength training--gained 2 lbs. There was a post around that time with lots of responses that confirmed that it was water retention from the micro tears in the muscles. I finally released it yesterday when I did an hour of water aerobics--don't know why but peed about a…

Wow, I'm surprised! Of the 80+ responses so far, it looks like almost 90% just limited calories per MFP and tried to make healthier choices, but allowing themselves to eat anything they really wanted. And most exercised, but many weren't compulsive about it and lost anyway. As so many overweight people are insulin…

Cut up an apple, put it in a bowl, sprinkle with a couple drops of vanilla, a bit of cinnamon, and 1 - 2 teaspoons of brown sugar or sweetener. Nuke it for about 2 minutes--bingo, apple pie for 60-70 calories. You can also sprinkle a teaspoon to a tablespoon of granola over it for apple crisp.

I have always been an evening sweets eater, and I think that eating healthy 90% of the day and exercising is enough of a shock to my system at this point. So I save 100 - 200 calories, (sometimes exercise calories) for an evening (8 to 9 pm) snack. For that I can have a half cup Peach frozen yogurt for 90 calories or a…

Each evening I try to log my entire next day's eating plan. Then I package whatever I'm taking to work, i.e. tuna salad, baked beans, or whatever, in their little containers and put them in the fridge ready to go. That way, I know I have enough calories left for a larger evening meal and about 200 calories for my evening…

The difference is between Pacific and Atlantic salmon. Pacific salmon has more oil, therefore a much richer, moister flavor and more fat calories. Atlantic salmon has less oil, is dryer and much less flavorful. But the oil in salmon is the "good kind".

Divide your calories into 5 small meals, about 3 hours apart. Mine are 8 am, 11, 2, 5 and 8. Eat lean protein and complex carbs at each meal. They keep you satisfied. I actually save about 250 calories some nights and have 1/2 cup of Denali Extreme Moose Tracks ice cream. Hasn't slowed down my weight loss, and I'm…

I just started using Robb's Whey Protein, Chocolate and it tastes great--I use 1 scoop in 1 cup fat free Lactaid. The Spike Diet book recommends that you drink one immediately after weight training to keep your body from using it's muscle. I think we need to realize that they are not adding these heavy metals to their…

I used to drink my 16 oz. mug of coffee with 2 tablespoons of sugar and heavy cream. Then I wasn't hungry till 11 am. But that obviously threw my blood sugar/insulin out of control. So now I use caffeine tablets from WalMart and cut them in half. Keep a few halves on my nightstand and pop one before I get out of bed. Wakes…

It is healthier to eat some protein with each meal and snack to keep metabolism high and slow down digestion of the carbs. You might add an egg with breakfast AND the almonds/nuts, a glass of milk, or some string cheese with your snacks.
