Hi cjen, If I'm reading our post correctly, you've lost 9 pounds in 5 weeks. Is that right? If so, that's great! 52 weeks in a year divided by 5 weeks = 10 weight loss periods x 9 pounds = 90 pounds loss in a year.

Fill out your Profile info on MFP, set goals and try to keep close to them. I have had good success using MFP numbers, but see what works for you. I would say Good Luck but it's about staying positive and walking away from food when you know you don't need it. So, Stay Positive.

My real weakness is sweets, not salty snacks or bread or pastas. If I get the sweets out of the house I do OK. But I guess craving one poor choice is the same as the next. You can get Sodium free chicken and beef broths.

Watch for foods without sodium, more are being produced. Snacks w/o sodium now include pretzels, tortilla chips, etc. Then yeah, like has been said, cook more at home. You do know you can add Sodium to the things My fitness Pal measures ... right?

Good question, a little meticulousness, but good. Use a good quality scale on a level floor, hold a 4 pound bag of sugar and see if your weight goes up exactly by 4 pounds, what else?

I'm right there with you. Boarder line diabetic on 12-1-2011. Started MFP on 1-2-2012. On 5-1-2012 lost enough weight to where numbers were good and quite taking 1 of 2 blood pressure pills, per doc. Goal is 15 more pounds to get in healthy range of BMI. Good luck to you.

Of course you need sodium (salt) to survive but the problem is not so much the salt you add, it's the sodium that is built in.
