Oh dear, the start of the school year is so busy. I have only just done B5 today. My 3x10 deadlifts were at 26.4kg, plus the barbell, so about 32kg which is about 70lbs. Did not feel too difficult but being so very old I think it's sensible to build up gradually and not injure myself. That's just a bit more than half my…

Welcome, Katie! Busy day for me and I haven't finished work yet :-(. B5 tomorrow :-) Looking forward to that! Jane

Yes, I'm a teacher (music). But half my job is in school admin. It's a nice balance :-) A kilo is 2.2lbs, so my extra 20kg is 44lbs. So I now have about 88lbs in weights and the barbell is around 15lbs. That will keep me going for a while. I did A5 today, so my first time with 3 sets. I had 10kg in each hand for the…

I am still here but have had a very busy start to the new school year - I haven't had a day off since last Monday, but it's only one more day to go, then I get 24 hours off. Hooray! I also have my extra 20kg so I can start to get a bit more serious with my deadlifts. I only had 20kg before, so now (with my barbell) I have…

I've just ordered 4x5kg weights to add to my collection. Picking them up tomorrow :-) Jane

I do the warm up suggested in the book. On other days I do some rowing or a fitness blender HIIT or some sort of workout DVD Today I did Stage 1, workout B4. I think I'm half way through stage1 now, but I had a break so I feel like I've slipped back a bit Jane

I've done about 7 workouts, but I've had a week off as I was returning to the UK for work after the summer in France (and we moved house in the UK just before going away, so everything was a bit topsy-turvy and I've been TIDYING!). So I will be back to it today or tomorrow. It's good to find a group with people who are…

I have just done my 5th workout. I started push ups on the dressing table and now I can do 8 proper press ups (although I can't go very low) and I finish the set on my knees. I also really struggled with the prone jackknife. I think this is really difficult to do at the end of the workout when you're tired (I do them much…

I have a hrm and during the FB 1000cal workouts I burn 600cals. I am 49, 5'2" and around 60kg. I am consistently at the bottom end of their cal burn range, which seems about right, given my size and age. I work very hard on these workouts and pour with sweat. I lose weight by burning 500cals a day in exercise (according to…

Anyone...? Please help us!

Glad it's not just me. I did the FitnessBlender 1000 Calorie workout and managed 625 cals in the best part of 90 mins. I aim for 500 cals a day workout and it always takes me at least 1hr15 :-(

You look very pretty, very young and very happy. Well done. and keep at it! Jane

I'm aiming for 3500 calories per week - 500 a day = 1lb fat! Jane

I have downloaded a bunch of workouts from YouTube (many of them using dumbells to match the equipment I happen to have). I mix these up according to how I feel and always wear a HRM so I know how much calorie burn is going on. 30 day shred gets a bit boring and can be intimidating on a day when you're tired. Try…

Check the protein in Greek yogurt you choose. The 0% stuff is about 10% protein. Other types are not so high in protein (esp. 'greek style') Jane

Who is the doctor? What is he selling? I haven't bought anything! I read about this 5:2 thing in the Guardian in Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's column. He's a chap whose opinions I value so I thought I'd give this a try as it has worked for him. Actually this suits my lifestyle very well as I have two really busy days when…

I cut out lots of carbs and save my small amount of protein for an evening meal. I eat at regular times but it's all fruit, salad and veg. In addition yesterday, for example, I had one shredded wheat with milk for breakfast, plus a banana. For dinner it was about 10g (dry weight) rice with 125g prawns in a tomato, onion,…

I started rowing on a C2 in about 2004 and lost about 12kg to become a lightweight. A little later I took up rowing on water, with a definite preference for sculling. Sadly I just don't have the time to get on water now, but I still have my C2s and I row regularly. Being short (5'2") and not too heavy (60kg) I am suited to…

I have 2 concept2 rowing machines, one for my house in the UK and one for my house in France. They work. You will lose weight and get toned. See the C2 forum for lots of reliable advice (UK forum - the US one is not so good). Check out the Pete Plan. Jane

We have a thing called 'Freecycle' in the UK. People give stuff away and it's organised by area. You basically email the people who are offering things and tell them why you need it and they pick the person they like the sound of! I've given stuff to people who are setting up home, for example. Also, people can put an ad…

Really impressed by this. Well done :-) Jane

Great work, and I love the Atari T shirt! Jane

Can't see any harm in it if the weights are little. It's nowhere near as demanding or challenging as the exercise regime I had when I had just turned 11, doing at least 2 hours of dance training 5 days a week. Playing out isn't always an option in Glasgow, unless you like getting wet! Jane

I cook most things from scratch, following your basic principles, surreyhills. I bake my own pizzas when I'm at home in France, but when we're home in the UK I buy pizza express ones as my kitchen there is tiny. I try not to use processed meats but when I buy sausages, for example, I go for the Taste the Difference 97%…

Bacon is very salty. I always gain about 2 lbs when I eat even 1 rasher and then it takes about 36 hours for the water weight to drop off. Jane
