You see, you ARE changing it up by going heavier. Thanks for proving my point!

"Like" One of my issues isn't so much the honesty so much as it is the method. I gave someone bad (read: outdated) advice. Someone came along behind me and decided the best thing to do was make every effort to humiliate me. We had a long conversation via messages and came to an understanding. I like to think I'm open…

If you are exercising, there's a chance that you are gaining muscle and losing fat, with a net result of zero pounds. Did you take measurements of your body? How about a before picture? Going by the scale only isn't the best plan ... especially if you are just starting out watching your calories and also starting out on an…

If you are always doing the same thing, consider every 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, muscle memory starts to get a firm grip and your workout starts to provide fewer results. MHO

Not to be too gross (referring to the first line) but I actually try to figure out how much weight I just lost!

Why didn't I think of that!!! Great idea!

When you have a panic attack when you realize that your forgot to pack your almonds and prunes for your morning snack at work! Yep, just happened!

You would be surprised at the things that can be done from home. Most of the people I work with telecommute at least 1 day a week, and some do it 5 days per week. One friend of mine from work actually now telecommutes 4 day a week. Her job is to research/respond to customer complaints regarding our website. There are other…

Me too! I stated eating them a few weeks ago and now can't stop!

Yup, but only 2 days/week. I work for a health care provider on their website. Great benefits!

It's fat free! <- My wife says this. She looks at fat, all fat, as bad and believes she should have zero fat in her diet. I've told her a gazillion times the body needs fat. You don't eat fat and it instantly get absorbed into your thighs ... trust me!

@aprildawn81: Cute dress and great smile!!

I'm using a BodyMedia Fit right now to better understand how my body burns calories. One of the ways it does this is by monitoring how much heat you produce. Remember that when your body burns energy to do stuff (breath, walk, etc) the burned energy is release as heat. Monitoring this heat can better help guesstimate how…

My wife has told me this. The problem I have is that she is also trying (unsuccessful) to lose weight as well. I'm afraid to report any progress I'm making. I don't want her to a) get mad at me for continuing the weight loss and b) get jealous of my results. I also had a co-worker tell me I looked healthier before I…

Excellent! Either you live near me, or the webpage knows where I live and showed the locations nearest me! :) EDIT: Just checked, it was the website!

I've got a Polar FT7. I know it's more accurate that what the machines at the gym says, and does a better job of knowing what I'm doing during my circuits than what any website might guess. I got mine on Amazon for about $80.

I love this post! Simplistic and exactly right.

Wow, there are soooo many ways to answer your questions. Have complaints come mostly from men, women, or both? My guess is that it's the ladies complaining ... but that is strictly a guess. I for one find it a mixed things. First, I'm a man and men (most) are drawn towards the female figure. It's like 99% of our…

I love this site! People ask for support, and everyone steps forward to offer it! Of all my "friends" on MFP, I only knew 1 before I joined!

Oh, and missing a week at the gym really stunk! I hate breaking my routine. But I did skip the gym, and probably healed faster because of it.
-
I was there last week. As much as we hate to do it, you need to let your body heal! Don't worry too much about the caloric intake, just set your mind to getting better. When you are, get right back to it. I actually stopped logging my food while I was sick. Didn't want to know, and didn't care.
-
Part of fitness is support. I'm here often doing more than logging food and exercise because I want to offer support. One of the things I noticed is how much I learn just by reading the threads!

I was on my stationary bike WHILE watching the Superbowl! You start to peddle faster when you want your guy to run faster!
-
You are absolutely right! I really don't pay attention to that projection.

here's an example: Lets say your BMR is 2000 calories per day. Every calorie over 2000 would theoretically be added as fat, and every calorie below 2000 would theoretically reduce fat (or muscle). On day 1, you eat 1500 calories. The difference between 2000 and 1500 is 500 deficit. Multiply 500 * 35 = 17500 calories…
-
They are using simple math. They have projected your BMR, and then determine the difference between your actual and your BMR. Take this number and multiply by 35 (7 days times 5 weeks) and divide by 3500. So, the larger the deficit, the larger the difference, hence the larger the weight loss. The numbers look great, but in…

Stop it ... your not making this any easier!

... you get sick, and all you can think about is that you can't go to the gym! ... you spend 20 minutes on the weekend carefully weighing and measuring almonds and prunes for the upcoming weeks snacks. ... your philosophy is, "I'd rather count too few calories burned instead of too many." or "I'd rather assume I ate more…
-
How many calories are you currently taking in? It's a numbers game, that's for sure. But our bodies like to pull fast ones now and again to confuse the numbers game. Without knowing your current consumption and exercise, it's difficult to say.
-
Getting rid of it means diet. You can't tell your body where to lose the fat, you just have to burn more calories then you consume and wait for it to go away. Sorry, no magic answer to this one. edit: used "weight" instead of "wait"! It's a fitness site, what can I say? edit: used "It's a diet site" but it's a fitness site!
