If you have a slow metabolisim do calorie counters technically work? Same has a high metabolisim? How can they be correct?

I was wondering the same thing. That is why I want to get a HRM, see how many calories I burn, so I know how many calories I should be eating.

I'm using a BodyMedia Fit right now to better understand how my body burns calories. One of the ways it does this is by monitoring how much heat you produce. Remember that when your body burns energy to do stuff (breath, walk, etc) the burned energy is release as heat. Monitoring this heat can better help guesstimate how many calories you burn.

A HRM simply uses your heart rate, along with personal information like age, sex, height and weight, to guess how many calories you are burning.

In the end, they are all educated guesses. But some guesses are better than others.

I have a thyroid condition, and I know my metabolism is slow. I would never trust a computer program or any sort of gadget to determine how many calories I burn. I just try to follow an intuitive eating plan, and if that doesn't work, I just keep track of calories and see how far it gets me. If something isn't working, change it. You have to start somewhere.
