MFP: How to record calories burned from Weight Training
The myfitnesspal staff has posted the following blog titled "Tips for logging and calculating non-cardio calorie burn": http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/2013/10/11/muscle-matters/ I love how they describe the difficulty of calculating calories burned when weight training, but can't believe they actually suggested using a HRM.…

I don't like preparing food...
I've always been the kind of person who wants to eat when I get hungry. Because of this, I've never been one to prepare meals ... at least not until after 15 years of marriage when I started taking turns with my wife cooking dinner. But even then, I always love an easy-to-prepare meal - and my wife has a lot of them! But…

What is your pre/post run look like?
Before I run, I try to warm up my body and do light stretching to my hams, quads, calves and groin. After my run, I do the same stretches, but deeper and longer. Is there a better way to warm up before a run and cool down after a run that would help avoid leg injury ... something I'm very prone to?

Carbs without calories??
I've been using Splenda in my coffee lately, and notice that when I log the Splenda in my diary, it says ZERO calories, but to grams of Carbs. Is it possible to have carbs without calories? I remember being told that every gram of carbs has 4 calories (or something like that). I'm confused....

Weight Loss and Muscle Mass
Over the years, I've managed to add some muscle mass to my previously weak body. I believe in heavy lifting as the only way to build and/or maintain muscle mass. I'm now at a point where I want to lose some of this excess fat. I've heard that, no matter what, when you have a calorie deficit, you are going to lose muscle…

BodyMedia Fit????
Have you ever wondered how accurate MFP is at “guessing” how many calories you burn each day? I’ve heard many people say it usually underestimates calories. To make things worse, it’s hard to know what activity level you should select. I work out 6 days a week, and have a desk job. So where does that put me? Something else…

How to eat more and still burn fat
I came across the following article, and thought it was worth passing along. Please read through to the bottom where it states the following: "OK…before I get too carried away, let’s pull back the reins a little. The truth is, like most studies, there are holes to the study. The length of study wasn’t long enough, the…

Flex Belt
I came across an ad today about this great new device called the Flex Belt ... funny thing ... the add is on THIS PAGE AS I TYPE! Go figure! Anyway, I watched some of the video, listened closely to what these people were saying, especially listening for claims they make about this device. Yes, they claim you will get…

HRM and improved fitness
I'm wondering if anyone here had done any research to determine if, as we get into better shape, our bodies burn fewer calories doing similar training routines. I purchased a HRM back in January, when I started a new HIIT routine. In the beginning my HRM said I was burning upwards of 700 calories during a 45 minute…

What's your water secret?
I'm not interested in what is considered water and what isn't. If you drink plain water, nothing added or mixed in (lemon is OK), what is your secret to getting enough? Let's also assume that 8 cups really is the magic number! I know some people don't have a problem consuming water, and others do. For those who do have a…

NSV from my doctor
I've always been into exercise, but not so much into diet. When I decided I needed to lose weight, not only did I start to examine what I eat, but I also changed my exercise. I use to do 45 minutes of cardio, and 45 minutes of weight lifting. That was changed to circuit weight training and interval cardio (and never on the…

Water and weight loss
There has been a big debate about what counts as water, and that is NOT the purpose of this thread. More accurately, I want to know the importance of consuming water as it relates to loosing weight. Is it simply because of the "8 glass a day rule" and nothing more complex than that?

My underwear NSV
Yes, I've noticed the elastic on my underwear is no longer being stretched. It's not doing anything other than looking for something to pull on it! Also, my wife has been complaining about my baggy pants telling me I need to get some new ones. I keep telling her my belt will hold them up without a problem. But I secretly…

Has anyone else become stingy with their calories...
Now that I'm tracking every single thing I eat, I find that I've become very stingy with my calories. Sometimes I will hop on the bike so I can burn more calories so I can indulge myself with a piece of candy ... or maybe a 64 calorie beer. Anyone else going through the same thing now that they have MFP to monitor their…

Diet and new exercise routine = results (pic)
In mid December, I made my first effort to lose weight. I "tried" to reduce my calories, while spending more time at the gym. I made cardio a priority over weight lifting ... and found limited success. I then discovered MFP and found a new workout plan (an advertisement on MFP site) and have finally started to see the…
