There has been a big debate about what counts as water, and that is NOT the purpose of this thread. More accurately, I want to know the importance of consuming water as it relates to loosing weight. Is it simply because of the "8 glass a day rule" and nothing more complex than that?

For me water does 2 things - keeps me full and helps reduce bloating...keeping me full means I eat and snack less and reducing bloating means I get a better idea of my weight and don't get discouraged by water weight. That's all it is for me.

All I know, is water is good.

A lot of time i thought I was hungry I was just thirsty.. drink way more water these days.
  • I'm definetly not an expert or anything, but I know that for me personally I feel a difference.
I've always been decent at drinking water, but since starting MFP, I upped the anti on it.
In the past 3 weeks I have not drank anything except water. I drink about 140 ounces a day.
The benefits I have seen are:
    1. I don't feel bloated.
    2. My skin is softer.
    3. It has curbed my appetite.
    4. I have always been hot natured, but it seems to have evened out my internal thermometer.
    5. I have been excersicing a lot and drinking all this water, I haven't had a lot of muscle aches. (just the good kind :)
    6. Just overall, I feel good. That is also combined with good eating and excercise 6 days a week, but I feel like the water has rounded all those things out.

Also, this is a pretty decent article about the health benefits of water.
I also know that the whole water topic is pretty controversial around here, but all I know is what has worked for me.

Thanks for the article. It sounds like they have justified why water will help you lose weight.

I will not ask what form that water needs to come in!!!
