To put a different spin on your comment above: Your body is a temple, a gift from God. If you are able to keep it healthy by sticking to your fitness and nutrition goals, you are honoring God. You can witness to His strength and love by telling those who ask about your weight loss journey that you rely on God to help you…

Welcome to MFP! All the best to you as you embark on your journey here!

Had a less than good day yesterday. . .Thanks for your inspiring thoughts!

I like my ECG accurate HRM watch. No band to cause any problems! Once you start the chrono, it starts recording your heart rate. You can check your rate by placing the index and middle finger on the pads on the face of the watch. Get better soon!

Thanks for the reminder that what we see in magazines is a bunch of fantasy women who don't really exist!

Hi! I recommend that you get a heart rate monitor (HRM). Mine is programmable, looks just like a watch, and tells me how many calories I have burned during my workout (including warm up and cool down). I can tell you that the calories burned with HRM is less than calories burned using MFP database exercises numbers. So, be…

Chicken of the Sea Tuna Cups. Ready to eat-- no draining required. 80 cals AND 18 grams protein. Great in a lunch box! Good luck!

Now you're talking --- That is exactly it! Consistently being mindful is what will help you reach your goals, not being perfect every minute of every day! I know you can do it!

http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/168593-hypothyroid-me-too Please see my previous post on this topic. If you suffer hypothyroidism, you must, Must, MUST see an endocrinologist rather than your family physician. You can go undiagnosed for years if you let your family physician dictate what is "normal" for you. For…

Another factor---If you lose weight and do not eat adequate protein, you lose more lean muscle mass!!! You must eat protein, animal, vegetable, whatever you choose, to maintain lean muscle mass. Best of success to you!

You can do it! I am about your age, hypothyroid and perimenopause and I am losing weight by tracking my food and exercise on this site. As long as you follow good health guidelines by eating enough protein and keeping your sodium under control, I don't see any reason you can't achieve your goal. I would recommend getting…

Everyone is different but here is an example that shows that "normal" levels are not "normal" for every person. I feel best when my TSH is maintained at 1 mU/L. According to a medical website, normal levels for adults are between 0.4-4.5 mU/L. Some labs report a TSH of 5 as "normal." When my TSH hits 5, I am a zombie,…

Wow! I love your list and I agree with every single item. I have noticed that many friends on this site are not eating all the protein they need. Instead, they are filling up on carbohydrates. Carbohydrates = sugar= losing lean muscle mass because you are not providing your muscles with the building blocks (amino acids) to…

Hi Jim, I don't know how old your son is but you are doing the right thing. Slowly working toward a healthier diet for your son will help him in the long run. When my sons were pre-school age, we ate fast food somewhat regularly. My sons are now 9 and 11 and I can't remember the last time we ate at McDonalds (3 years…

I have to agree. . . 1. Shopping for the nice looking clothes in regular stores sounds really good instead of settling for what is available in Plus! 2. Feeling more comfortable going to the beach or pool 3. Never having to worry if my behind will fit in the chair 4. Not feeling like I am being treated differently because…

I have some. Oil is kind of misleading -- it is only liquid at temperatures over 76F (24C). The package states that the medium chain fatty acids in it stimulate metabolism. I guess you would have to consume it in small quantities because it is calorie-dense. Best of success to you!

Wow! The perfect reminder at the perfect time. I love the idea that after some time each individual bucket out of the Olympic swimming pool will eventually become noticeable. Thanks for taking the time!

I too am frustrated at not seeing much downward movement on the scale. However, I feel good about myself for logging my food and exercise. I feel more in control of my eating habits and my exercise schedule . . . and I do notice my slacks feeling roomier. Positive feedback from MFP pals is nice, too!! Best of success to…

I thought this funny quote sums it up! You know you are hungry when even the worst stuff you would normally never consider eating starts to look appetizing! "Food is like sex: when you abstain, even the worst stuff begins to look good." ~Beth McCollister

Hi morningstar2, I recommend using the exercise in the database called aerobics or circuit training general. These exercises are two categories of vigorous exercise that can approximate the Jillian Michaels DVD. Hope this helps! P.S. Calorie burn totals are dependent on how much you weigh!

Thank you, Charlie, for an amazing and inspirational message of hope and perseverance!
