Thank you for the info (everybody!) Great ideas here. A couple quick responses...I realize my strength training is all upper body related. I run on the off days about 3 miles per day and I feel (maybe incorrectly) that this is conditioning and strengthening lower body. I could probably add in some leg training but I am…

Count it as a compliment! I occasionally experienced that in my 20's but am now invisible in my 50's! Trust me, it is more worrisome when people stop looking!

I agree with this and this is what I do. I am serious about getting in shape and losing weight but I don't want the program to be punitive or a chore. Having occasional splurges makes the whole process doable for me. The key word is occasional and splurge does not mean an absolute total gorge.

I turned 50 this year and losing the belly fat is my primary goal. I am slowly losing weight using MFP (about 1 pound per week) and I am trying to mix basic weight training with cardio (running) 2-3 times per week. Not seeing tremendous improvement yet on the abs. It seems like I am developing muscle "underneath" the fat…

My weight loss goal started about 6 months ago to be in the middle of the "normal" BMI range for my height and age. For me that was 170 pounds which was 35 pounds of weight I need to lose. I've lost 30 so I am nearing my goal and I am getting excited!

Thanks for advice Alan. I will do that. I am committed to long term weight loss and management and I love this site and the advice of posters.

Thanks for information. If I start hydrating heavily today and for next 7 days do you think that would be beneficial in the final weigh-in next Monday?

Can anyone advise on this?

I know this to be true for several people. They will delight in telling you how they only eat healthy foods and then proceed to eat 3-4 plates at every meal. Then they complain how they are not losing weight. Since most of the people are business clients I chew on my tongue and nod agreeingly with them.

I can tell you seem to be bothered by this parameter but I think you are focusing on the wrong thing. At your size fat is obviously not an issue. Focus on other things like exercise and nutrition and forget about the %BF. Your range is fine.

I live in Ga and I understand your lack of motivation completely. I leave for work before 5 am during the week so mornings are out of the question. I get home and it's 90 degrees and it takes REAL willpower to go out and run for 30 minutes. The only motivation I can tell you is that it really seems to melt the pounds off…

From my on personal experience I would say yes. I am 47 and it is much harder to lose 15-20 pounds now than it was 15 years ago. I think the two big factors are lower metabolism rates and (this is generalized) the older you get the less exercise you routinely get , ie more sedantary.

I'm no expert either but I have always heard the same thing Vannilla mentioned above. The only caveat would be if you are doing long-distance training such as marathons etc and if that is the case, I think rest days are recommended.

Thanks!

Does anybody else have this problem?

I just started also. Your calorie goal seems very low compared to mine. They calculated 1720 as my target. Maybe because I'm a male? I would probably starve at that low a calorie target.
