How do you all deal with the occasional splurge? Save up for it before or make up for it after? Or just try to exercise the calories away.

Don't try to make up for a splurge, because it can lead you on a path to a binge/restrict cycle (I learned that the hard way). You could try to earn a few calories by exercise to indulge in your meal, but I wouldn't try to exercise every calorie away.

If it's a rare splurge then I wouldn't even worry about it.

Chalk it up to history and move on. It happened. Don't beat yourself up.

You enjoy it and move on. I do try to exercise enough to cover my splurges though.

If you're trying to lose weight, it will eventually take care of itself, you'll just lose weight less quickly. If you're trying to maintain your weight, you will have to make up for it eventually. If I know it's coming, I might eat less at a meal or two before it is planned. Yesterday, I knew I would be eating a big meal in the middle of the day, so I had a light breakfast. Then, even with a light supper, I made it through the day within my goal.

I agree with this and this is what I do. I am serious about getting in shape and losing weight but I don't want the program to be punitive or a chore. Having occasional splurges makes the whole process doable for me. The key word is occasional and splurge does not mean an absolute total gorge.
