I know that feeling! I finally decided to do them instead of a wall slap and I think I was more worried about looking bizarre than anything else, but I got the hang of them pretty quickly! I never had learned as a kid because we had swim team in a lake with a floating dock.. No walls!

Polyester all the way. Dolfin Uglies are my favorite. They never die. My boys also have TYR Durafast jammers that are holding up well. My oldest usually does his swim team practice in regular old cheap trunks.Those things last a very long time.

Absolutely log it. when I only have less than 30 min to get some exercise in, I do a high intensity one that involves calisthenics at a very good effort and running. I am certain it helps my fitness level, and is definitely worth more than simply ignoring it.

I'd find a specialty store with the biggest selection you can find, and then have them show you absolutely everything that would work for you. I think that is the best way. Honestly, I think those brightly colored "ugly" shoes are the best looking, but tastes vary! You may completely disagree with my taste...:)

Yes definitely get the right shoes. Also, shin splints can be caused by your calf muscles being too tight, leading you to lift your foot with the tibialis muscle when you stride. I guess I'm in the minority. I consider sports bras a bra, not a top all on its own. I wear a tank top or cami over mine. You might want to check with your gym if you haven't seen anyone else doing it.
