I've just done Total Body Training.

I'm doing it. I like the idea of it being structured.

I have greek yoghurt with fruit and find adding a small sprinkle of stevia and a sprinkle of cinnamon stops it being too tart.

If you are anything like me, if you drink plenty of wine you will spend the next twenty four hours in close proximity of the toilet - voila cleanse. Since I hit the menopause losing any weight is hard work so I sometimes wish the woo woo was true. My younger work colleague was saying she lost a lot of weight last year…

I read the book last year and it makes a lot of sense. I have tried to follow the basic rules and once I got used to not snacking I have found it great. I am in my fifties and it is very similar to the way I used to eat when younger. I can understand your mum's concerns in view of her experience with your sister.

You could wash it in soda.

I had never heard of Adderall, it may not be used in the UK or it may be under a different name. It did sound to me like a weight loss supplement.

I'm an obliger which explains why I do better attending WW meetings, even if I do not follow the plan because otherwise I keep thinking that I will just eat this chocolate bar or that dessert and start dieting tomorrow.

I'm not sure, I never lost more than half a stone. I can only think that their previous diet was full of calorie dense foods or they are eating very few calories. It is hard to get an answer to the question as some of the free/synned foods make no sense, and when I queried it I was told it is food optimizing and had been…

You can bulk mince out with grated carrot, it makes the mince go further and cuts the calories. Roast Chicken can be stretched for two to three days. Roast dinner on day one, chicken stir fry/risotto on day two and the carcass can be boiled up for soup. Have you looked at A Girl called Jack's blog, she is very…

What I find about the clean eating/no sugar/no wheat programmes is that they are totally against processed food until it comes to the author's supplement or protein shake which is ok ( and usually costs an arm and a leg)

I have started back at WeightWatchers to give me a boost. I find being weighed by someone else makes me more likely to stick to it. I

I hope not. It doesn't seem fair that holding weight on your belly also makes you look fatter than if you carry it all over or on your hips but it is also worse for your health.

Inspired my this I measured my waist, and the widest point. I was further over the NHS guidelines than I thought. I have also tried on a pair of jeans that I bought a couple of years ago that were snug at the time. I can't get them fastened by about three/four inches so will use them to gauge my progress. I only have 20lb…

I found some of the experiments interesting, especially the one where the two groups were given cake and one group was told it was low calorie was interesting. I know I'm guilty of making a bad choice, then using it as an excuse to eat everything in sight. I also thought the experiment where they found formal exercising…

What I find interesting when visiting the USA is how heavily pharmaceutical companies advertise on TV and magazines. Several of the drugs were for conditions that I wasn't aware of and looking on the NHS website couldn't find much info for. The reason we paid so much interest in the adverts was because they promised…

That is frightening.

I am finding this most inspiring. I am 55 and have struggled with my weight for the last five years. I'd love to lose 20lb and am watching this with interest.

I would choose SW out of the two, but with reservations. You need to be careful with the free food, and limit the portion size. I love the recipes for savoury foods but some of the desserts are weird and overly reliant on sweeteners I must admit there are some fantastic losses, but I found I struggled to lose more than a…

In a lot of UK cookery books with metric and imperial measures for ingredients, the accepted equivalent for 4oz is either 100g or 125g depending on the recipe. I have never seen 113.2g used.
-
But it is similar to using feet and inches. For weight loss issues we subdivide it into pounds.
-
This is fascinating. I too, seem to have natural set points my weight gravitates towards, no matter what diet I try. Since I hit menopause I struggle to get below 150lbs but I can maintain at the level quite easily. Prior to that I settled about 135lbs. I am quite small framed and in my teens and twenties I hovered around…

Sweet potato Muller light yogurts - you can just taste the chemicals in them. I joined Slimming World (UK diet club) earlier this year and while most of the savoury recipes were ok, the sweet recipes were yuck. Most of them involved low fat hot chocolate mix and eggs. Yet there were lots of people on Facebook claiming how…

When I was a student in the early 1980's there was a rumour that that KFC used pigeon meat instead of chicken. I didn't pay much attention because the nearest KFC was a couple of hundred miles away in London.
-
I find the same compared to the UK. I was amazed when I first visited Disney World at the number of people walking round eating turkey legs, which looked a similar size to a Sunday Roast.

Thank you. I agree. I am not an academic and I do not have time to source studies reputable or otherwise.
-
Yes I agree that BMI was used for population analysis, and has it's imperfections but it is still a useful guide.
-
I think that although people may claim to have a goal weight above normal BMI, once they get there they will reconsider and reduce their goal downwards. I also think if you have a lot of weight to lose it is hard to visualise what you will look like at goal, and perhaps they imagine that they will look borderline anorexic.…

Well done. I struggle to get below 150lb. I yoyo between 150lb and 156lb. My problem is when the weight doesn't come off I tend to overeat for a day or so. I also tend to lose faith and investigate the 'alternative' diets. Guess I ought to just keep at it.
-
I agree, I tend to view junk food as being restricted so when I do eat it I tend to do it to excess, telling myself I will start again tomorrow. I find I need to avoid it so I lose the taste for it. I use a mixture of lemon juice and bicarb for removing limescale from the bathroom. Does that mean lemon juice is evil as…
