  • People on here typically call it "banking" calories. I aim not for a set amount of calories per day, but instead a set amount of calories per week. Every day, I shave off 40 cal here, 120 cal there, so that when Saturday hits I can drink those 5 diet coke and vodkas. Works perfectly well for me.
  • I do it manually. I believe the paid MFP premium has this feature built-in, if you'd like it to be a tad easier to do.
  • Maybe you should ask Dan to chill somewhere outside of his work? .....just a thought! :)
  • People often make flippant comments (ie "Oh, hun, you're thin as a stick already!") for various reasons. Most of the reasons aren't even mean, it's just a natural human response for some. The best way to handle it, in my opinion, is just not to get into the conversation in the first place. If you're out for a meal, just…
  • Ha! Just found my old post. May as well update it for myself. I got down to 160, and I did in fact hike the entire trail from Denver to Durango. It took 40 days. When I was done, I was around 152 pounds (underweight). Unfortunately I stopped tracking after completion, and got back to 205. So now I've decided to hike the…
  • Although MFP doesn't let me directly log it, I build up a calorie deficit for the week, knowing full I'll drink it on Saturday night. So I'll shave off 50 cal here, 140 cal there, and by Saturday I'll be 300-500 cal under what it says I should be (even for the deficit). Then on Sat when I drink my 5-6 diet coke and vodkas,…
  • I drink plenty of Diet Coke. My weight keeps moving down as I'd expect it to. I'd say you're fine. Drinking a decent amount of water helps too, so that your body doesn't feel the need to retain water weight. But the Diet Coke itself is just fine. Coke Zero too, for the win!
  • I started this at 192.5, and after several weeks I was 185. I was stoked. Then, less than a week ago, I was at 191! WTF!?! All my work, just POOF, gone. And then, a few days, suddenly the scale was back to 186. The point is, worry about the weeks, not the days.
  • Despite the naysayers, there could actually be a correlation. We can't give you a ratio, but here's what you can do: take a look at where your fat is stored at on your body. Remember, fat is first on-last off. So if you gained in your stomach first, then gained in your legs and arms, the stomach is last in line to get rid…
  • I wouldn't eat the calorie deficit you create through exercise, but that is what the website wants you to do. I think it's okay to eat a bit more on exercise days, but if you burn 400 calories in exercise and then turn around and consume an additional 400 calories, you'll build a bit of muscle which is good, but you won't…
  • For me, just taking things one day at a time work best. You can't control if you'll lose those 3" in just under five weeks, but you can make the right choices today. Every day, you can control the food intake for that day. You can control the effort you exert with exercise. If you make an effort, then in those four and a…
  • I just started a few weeks ago myself. I spent years putting weight on, and I am surprised at how fast it comes back off in comparison. My best advice is just to know yourself, and my second best advice is to know your goals. For me, I know there are times when I will eat more than I should. I accept that about myself, but…
  • I like to plan my dinner out, including proportion size, then head over to the gym. After my workout, I'll just eat whatever I had planned to make. That way, I don't overeat, and I don't fail to eat. On nights I'm going to work out, I like to plan on something like 4-8 oz of skinless chicken breast, cooked on a Foreman…
  • However, if you like cottage cheese (and I'm going to assume you do, since you brought it up), the fat free cottage cheese is a great low cal food. Shouldn't be any issue working it into your regular meals.
  • Hey Doug. Sounds like you were on a good path, at least for the short to medium term. That's good news! The downside, as you pointed out, is that you eventually regained much of your hard-fought weight loss. That's nothing to be ashamed about. In fact, you're here, posting about it, asking about it. You're already on your…
  • I've had some knee pain with my hiking. I tried fish oil, which wasn't of any major help. I just recently started trying Osteo BiFlex, not long enough for me yet to know if it will help or not. The reason I'm trying Osteo BiFlex is that my dad's dog was recently diagnosed with arthritis, and the medication the vet…
  • If you have an Android phone (and maybe an iPhone, not sure if the app is available for that), there is an app called "My Tracks". You can turn it on and it will use GPS to tell you how far you've gone, and at what average speed. You can use that to help better track the details to put in to MFP, or at least to help decide…
