Great discussion. A few years ago, before I had kids, I did a weight loss program here.. I stayed within my calories... but I also drank a lot of beer, I tracked it, I went way over. Beer was the only thing that I'd go way over on... I still lost lots of weight.

Nuts are evil calorie/point hogs. Using MFP shed light on how a simple palm of nuts equals soooo many calories. I'd thought a cup and a half of nuts or peanuts wasn't that bad. Now I know. Evil.

I hit a month long plateau after about 25lbs. I added an additional 200 more calories per week and I started losing again. Like you, I ran a few times a week and ate about 1500 cals, then upped to 1700 after a couple months.

I eat 1400-1700 cals per day; and I eat 130g-170g of carb per day. It has worked for me in the past and it is working again now!

Slim Fast makes snack bars... one is called "Peanut butter Crunch Time" ; 100 cals... VERY TASTY and only found in the health section. Hidden Gem. Taste like a butter finger or crispy crunch... very satisfying.

The Cals in / Cals out thing .... I always wondered... "ok, instead of burning 200-300 calories running on a tredmill for half an hour... how about I just don't eat this apple and granola bar today. Simple! Not that simple :(
