  • I've always disliked my Fitbit being connected to MFP, mostly because it's not very good at guessing, and half the time doesn't actually sync correctly. Instead, I look at what Fitbit says I burned, total, for yesterday. Subtract 1000 (or whatever your deficit may be) and that's what I'll eat today. So yesterday, I burned…
  • I hadn't thought of distance, but when I compared the two for that day the One had me as having gone .02 miles further, despite having the lower calorie count. I also checked the weight difference, and I was mistaken; it's not a pound off, it's .1 pound off (216 vs 215.9). You're right, it's definitely not a huge deal in…
  • Believe me, I'm well aware I'm not Marine material, haha. It will definitely still be very warm in the evenings where I live, which is a factor, but more than that I think it's mental. No, I don't like getting up early, and I might not do it in the mornings on weekends, but on weekdays there's a mental divide: before 5 is…
  • Walked at 6 this morning which resulted in a massive headache until about 11, but otherwise it went pretty well. It did show me that I should probably give it a week or two before I start trying to run again--an hour walk tired me out more than it really needed to, haha. I think I'm also not getting as much water as I…
  • My Rx was over -10, so I hated swimming without them. I would just get a cheap pair (I used Zenni, but I know others have mentioned Amazon) so that I didn't have to worry about getting them wet or bent.
  • If they weren't so constricting I'd definitely try sleeping in the workout clothes. One less step to hate in the morning, haha. I don't really consider a shirt dirty just from wearing it to bed, though. Thank you all! This is very helpful (and encouraging)!
  • It sounds like they mean that in a "I've been having too many over time recently and it's upping my calorie intake" rather than "I had an extra drink last night and I'm freaking out."
  • That would be ideal, yes, but it's already gone and I don't have a scale. So I'm trying to work with what I do know.
  • Is it just MFP messing up or is there something happening in MFP's math that Fitbit doesn't do?
  • I eat my exercise calories back. I've got a Fitbit and I only do cardio (plus the occasional yoga video) and I've found the calorie count to be spot on, so I eat them back without worrying about it, and I lose steadily.
  • Thanks for the answers! It's great seeing where everyone's at. Got through W1D1 (4 10 minute runs) pretty easily, then had to take about a week off, and when I tried to do day 2 yesterday I got hit really bad with what I'm assuming was food poisoning about 10 minutes in. Not fun. I'm worried about being away for this long…
  • Hello! Just finished C25K a week ago, spent the past week transitioning outside instead of the treadmill I was using, and now I'm here to continue on. Used a 1% incline in the gym, and that seems to have done its job, because I can pretty comfortably run 30 minutes outside now and I didn't really need to adjust like some…
  • Small update for those of you who run on a treadmill but want to transition outside eventually; definitely add that 1% incline! I read that that was the best way to keep it pretty even so you don't get outside and have to restart, and I think it works pretty well, at least for me. Lately the gym I go to has been so humid…
  • I have a One that I keep on my bra and I average about 100-110 steps a minute at my walking pace as well, so I think it sounds pretty accurate.
  • 2000 calories is correct. It's calculating everything burned just from existing, not just exercise. MFP already does that, so you don't see it in the transfer, but it's there. That's why you'll see calories burned even when sleeping; you're always burning calories.
  • I find mine to be very accurate Just realized it says watch. I have the One, which I find to be very accurate. I don't have any experience with the watches!
  • If you can already run for 10 minutes straight you might even be able to skip to week 4 or 5. If you can go for 20, you're already at week 6. It's definitely easy to customize; there's no harm in skipping ahead if what you're doing is too easy. I don't do anything else besides cardio so I can't help with a routine!
  • I hike because it's super fun. I started running because of the supposed benefits regarding anxiety and depression, but mainly so I can eat more and still lose weight. Running doesn't make me feel good, in fact usually I feel kind of pukey and lightheaded towards the end recently, but I do feel accomplished when I go…
  • When you say you're eating at your calorie allowance, what do you mean exactly? If you're trying to lose weight, what's your deficit? Or are you trying to gain or maintain? Do you eat your exercise calories? How do you calculate those calories? If you're working with weights and eating at or above maintenance, I would…
  • That's fantastic, @amber_beaney! And I love the medal, how cute!
  • That's fantastic, @brian_gunther! I think mine might be sleep related as well, even though I thought I'd been getting enough. @Aine8046 Your encouragement each week was incredibly helpful, so thank you! (And thanks to everyone else in the group, it helps so much to have this group to come to!) I'm going to stay at 30…
  • Not quite to 5k, but I can run for 30 minutes! Next stop, B210k.
  • W8D3 done, which means C25K DONE! I use the Zenlabs app, which lets you do timed or distance, so even though I'm not quite doing 5ks yet, I can do 30 minutes, and I'm calling that a success. I'm going to stay at 30 for another week or two before moving on to the Bridge program, because I don't think I would survive going…
  • I keep seeing people getting kind of high and mighty about running outside vs. treadmill recently, so I think I'm just a little over sensitive, sorry, I'd love to run outside if I wouldn't immediately fall down dead from sun-related ailments.
  • I didn't like the zombie running app because it wasn't just running; you'd stop and do knee highs, etc. It also had a "free run" which I felt defeated the purpose of it being a structured plan, so I skipped it, though that might not be an issue if you're not a beginner.
  • I'm not going to see a deer if I run outside, I'm more likely to get mugged. I'm also not going to go over 20 miles out of my way to run in nature several times a week when I have a gym at my apartment. If you use a treadmill, there's nothing wrong with bringing a phone or tablet and watching whatever you want if you don't…
  • After a month I could reset a treadmill instead of assuming it was broken and going to a different machine like I did the first couple of weeks, . It's an apartment gym, so there's no trainers or staff or anything. As far as accomplishments go, after 8 weeks I can run for 30 minutes straight. Working on going for an…
  • Calling yesterday W8D2, but I made it to 30 minutes again! Absolutely awful run though, I just could not catch my breath. Then my knees stiffened up strangely and my feet started tingling. What in the world does that even mean? Tingly feet during my walk today, too. Hope they don't fall off... Tomorrow would be my…
  • Cool, that's what I figured. Thanks!
  • Your Fitbit shows a calorie burn even if it doesn't sync to MFP. I just look at that and subtract my deficit to know how much to eat. MFP and FB still don't cooperate, so I've gotten used to doing it that way.
