  • I started at around a size 24, and I'm now a size 10, it's definitely doable!
  • I don't think there's anything wrong with it, I pop a Clif Shot Blok right at the start of my elliptical, and the ones I get have a little shot of caffeine in them.
  • I carry my phone and my Garmin GPS unit (etrex 20) when out hiking, and Endomondo is pretty much spot on with my phone, although I have had some issues with it lately where the app will just randomly exit.
  • I'm 38 and still get acne at times, but it's gotten better since I have lost a lot of weight, and spent more time outside. Some of the other things that have helped: Switching to SLS (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) free shampoo. Switching to Goat Milk based soap Using a face cleanser that has salicylic acid in it Using benzoyl…

  • I've had a Fitbit One since January, and never have had it record much of anything when I've been driving, and I do a lot of varied driving, as I go to trailheads and stuff for hiking.
  • I'm not sure how it fits in with your diet, but I add a tablespoon of almond or peanut butter to my oatmeal, and some dried fruit, like raisins, dates, or cherries. The nut butters help with added protein for me. :) In particular, Justin's Maple Almond butter is pretty delicious, but I had to switch back to plain almond…
  • I had a 3 course meal at a place near here called the Inn at Little Washington. It was probably the best meal I've had in my life up to now. Everything was wonderful, from the little mini country ham and biscuits to the variety of chocolate desserts!
  • I lost a lot at first, and it definitely slows down as you get closer to your goals. The final 20 pounds is taking at least 3 times as long as the first 20 did!
  • I add dried fruits of various kinds (raisins, dates, cherries, etc) and I also add a tablespoon of either peanut butter or almond butter, depending on what fruit I'm putting in it. My favorite is peanut butter and dates. I would imagine that PB2 would be good as well.
  • Endomondo is pretty good and it integrates with MFP. They have a free version with ads, and a paid version with some extra features.
  • If you don't mind me asking -- what cup size? I am a 36/34 DDD (F) and have never been able to find a sports bra that is remotely supportive.
  • Every day, started off at 30 minute walks and then increased to an hour when 30 minutes seemed too easy. Added some elliptical in when the weather started getting cold and I couldn't go any faster on my walks without changing over to running. The thing that keeps me exercising is, instead of listening to music, I listen to…
  • I dropped the soda and coffee for tea. The main reason I dropped both was because of all the sugar in soda, and all the sugar + cream I was adding to coffee, so as long as you are drinking your coffee black, it's fine. If you're adding stuff to it, then you're just trading one sugary beverage for another. :)
  • You have to be extremely careful with Grapefruit if you're on any kind of medications, particularly anti-depressants and cholesterol medications, as there are some enzymes in grapefruit that can cause you to overdose yourself (because the enzyme boosts the medication effects.) Source:…
  • No single food is evil, but most people don't just eat one slice of pizza, they'll order a medium pizza and eat half of it, and that is what the problem is. I'd classify pizza as an occasional indulgence for me.
  • Like many others have stated, I set some intermediate goals, and have also changed my goals as I've been going. I started out at 248lbs, and my first goal was to A: get to under 200, and B: be able to fit into the size 16 clothes in my closet. As I got closer to 200, I changed that goal to get to 180, and then as I got…

  • I started at 248, started out with 30 minute walks, eventually increased that to 60 minutes, and then added in hiking. I started using an Arc Trainer more recently to increase my workout, as I can't get much more out of walking without switching to jogging.
  • Quitting soft drinks was harder than quitting smoking, I think it took me about 10 years total, I've been soda free since ... I think 2 or three years now, after getting a SodaStream, The thing that I craved was the carbonation, so I switched from soda to carbonated water, and that seemed to really be what I was able to do…
  • Worked great for me for most of my weight lost. I started out with 30 minute walks daily, and then increased them to 1 hour when 30 minutes seemed too easy. I started adding in hiking once a week, and only fairly recently have I added some elliptical training as well, as I can't really walk any faster, and felt I needed a…
  • Height? 5'6" Starting weight? 248 Current weight? 166 Goal Weight? 140 Age? 38 How many calories you eat a day? between 1200 and 1400, depending on how much exercise I've done. My MFP limit is 1330.
  • When I hit my goal weight and am stable, I'd like to pick up some new clothes (I've been buying stuff from Goodwill while I lose) and possibly a nice, flattering bathing suit.
  • My heaviest (that I know of) was 248, and my goal is 140. I'm at 166 right now. I still have plenty of flab to get rid of, particularly around my midsection -- 140 was what I weighed in my late 20s, and seems doable.
  • If you're chewing sugar-free gum, make sure it doesn't have sorbitol as an ingredient -- it can cause gas.
  • Oatmeal with flaxseed, with a variety of additions, including various dried fruits, and more recently, occasionally half a tablespoon of peanut butter.
  • I'm a bit older (38,) but I have similar height-weight stats to you (5'6" currently 167lbs) and I post daily, so if you (or anyone else for that matter) need another friend, I'm always glad to help encourage people. :)
  • From the study I read, it's only bad if you're not used to the temperature. Once you're acclimated to a warmer climate, you are okay, but it takes a little bit of time to get used to it, so you're supposed to start out slow.
  • San Francisco native, but living in Virginia. I miss home!
  • There's actually a great book that I read that addresses the issue brought up in the first post: And the answer is: it depends! (which is the conclusion most of you have already come to, of course. :) ) Science is pretty awesome.
  • I save my guilt-free days for special occasions (holidays and birthdays) or a day when I've hit a milestone. Pizza is a pretty delicious (but evil) thing to be eating, so I would try to limit my intake of it, but at the very least I would log the calories so I would know what I was getting into. There's a lot of salt in…
