I watch the labels and serving sizes as well. The hard part for me is that I need to be aware of the carbs, etc. too. Diabetes + hypertension is a rough combination when it comes to eating "right". What is the lesser evil? Diabetes or hypertension? Something that is lower in carbs/sugar will be higher in sodium. ARgh! lol…

I will have to Google that!? :-) Thank you (everyone) for the ideas!! I'm making a new list! :flowerforyou: I'm not really a "whole foods" person, although anytime I can choose them over something packaged is a good thing. I try to keep my sodium down, among other things! Thanks again!!

I'm 5'11, started at 262 on Feb 1st. My 1st goal is 200 lbs.... I've changed my eating habits and am exercising 2x a day (60+min cardio). I may add some weights at some point, but going to continue with what I have been doing for now. -Nikki

I'm at 1490 calories, and always have leftover calories for the day because of exercise. I choose not to eat them, but sometimes throw in a low carb/high fiber or protein bedtime snack to help my morning blood sugar. It's nice to have the 'cushion'. Though honestly I often have over 1000 calories remaining. (I'm exercising…

I'm fairly new to clean eating (again). I just started with MFP on Feb 1st. Things are going really well. I agree with one of the first comments on this thread that now when I want something sweet it's just a want, not a craving "NEED to have it ALL" feeling. It's easy enough to say no. I have health issues like diabetes…

Breakfast is my fav meal of the day - sometimes I make it for dinner, but I have to use caution. Starting with certain foods can make the rest of my day rough with cravings, etc. I don't really let myself have fast food... Subway (or other sub shops) being the exception... I will get a 6" sub and eat only half, or get a…

Thanks! I actually had string cheese close to bed time last night. This morning my reading was 92. I could not have been happier. It totally made up for less weight loss this week! I started this journey on Feb 1st. So my metabolism could maybe be catching up to the 60 min of daily cardio. Looking forward to losing more…

You could ask for just a new lansing device. There are other devices that use the Delica lancets. :) My diabetes educator gave me a higher powered one. I haven't tried it yet as I have a huge supply of lancets yet to use up. To answer the question - I use the OneTouch Ultra Mini as well. I stick with it because that's what…

Under guidance from my endocrinologist, I eat about every 3 hours. I have the 3 standard meals + a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack. Because I also work out in the evening, sometimes I have a little something before bed. My goal is 1490 cal/day for a goal of losing 1-2 lbs per week, though with exercise I'm also 1000…

Hello! I think you've got it figured out! I haven't gotten to the lows yet. I'm not looking forward to them, but I'm sure they are imminent. I started using MFP to track food intake and level out my eating on Feb 1st. On Feb 13 I added exercise to my daily routine. I am cycling 30 min in the morning, and 30 min in the…

30 min cycling this morning, and 30 min cycling intervals tonight

88 miles of cycling since Monday morning, and planning another 8 miles yet tonight to end the calendar week. :-)

I'm in the same boat -- busy work day + 1 hour commute. I just started this journey with MFP on 2/1. I have some additional health issues, but am finding this site and the accompanying Android app to be great. I agree - planning ahead helps me stay on track. I'm not good yet about planning more than a day or two in…

Hi all, My name is Nikki and I am now 33. However, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes when I was about 23! So, 10 years with the disease. I've had quite a few complications, and I'm willing to share my stories with anyone who is interested. I'm an open book. I still get frustrated, bummed, depressed, etc. But this site…

I'm no expert but do have a sweet tooth. By logging what you're eating, you may start to notice trends or triggers. For example, potatoes, bread, and some other starches make me want more carb-heavy foods, including sweets. Also, as soon as I have something sweet (real sugar or artificial sweetner), I want more of it. I'm…
