Keep up the good work!

Exactly what Caitwn said. One of the things I have learned about me (so this may or may not apply to you) was that I couldn't give up the foods I enjoyed, and that my kids eat regularly because they are skin and bones. So I learned how to have a little of what they eat, and supplement it with foods that are less calorie…

I had that happen to me, but it took me a while to figure it out, because 1) my weight fluctuates a lot and 2) I was losing very slowly. I've been in maintenance for about 4 months and I'm still working on finding out what my numbers are. I probably only need to add 50-75 calories a day, and I think it's because I'm…

Exactly this. You said you are pretty new, you might head over to the getting started forum and read a bit there. I would especially recommend this thread http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1 Tons of helpful information, especially for beginners.

This is pretty accurate. However, if you find something you really enjoy, you won't mind the hard work nearly so much.

I've had many of those days myself. The trick is do you let it start a downward spiral or do you shake it off? Great attitude!

I have a sweet tooth, so I like lemon curd.

I started martial arts about a year ago - and we do a LOT of push-ups. And it has done wonders for my arm jiggle. I used to hate my arms, and now I can't wait for warmer weather to show them off. The winning combination is to do something to build muscle, and lose weight so the muscle is visible.

Bethany, many people here dislike or are ashamed of their bodies, you are not alone. I can't imagine how tough it must be to have lost all that weight, and be disappointed with how you look. I'm so sorry you are struggling with this. However, please don't give up on your dreams. You are a smart and articulate young lady,…

Thanks for the encouraging words.

I eat a lot of chicken. It's inexpensive, easy to prepare, and really versatile. I do lots of stuff in the crock pot, but I also lightly spray it with olive oil, season it, and bake it. Super easy. But boiled?? Sounds unappetizing.

Glad to hear it - keep up the great work!

It's been a few more months, how are you doing?
-
I had between 130 and 135 in mind, depending on how I looked when I got there. I'm quite content at 130.

40 yrs old, 5'7" maintaining at 130 for 6 months now. Do you exercise? I started toning up, and I really like my body at this weight. I used to hate my arms and now I love them!

[quote="sympha01;32434754 For whatever it's worth, I've found that while exercise may or may not be directly burning off a lot of calories for me, it's helped enormously with my weight loss in a lot of indirect ways. Yes, I also "eat a little bit more." I don't specifically eat workouts back, but I eat to fuel my overall…

Do you mean the 'if every day was like today in 5 weeks you would weigh _____"? What do you mean by 'work'? You probably won't weight that in 5 weeks if that's what you mean. Not because the calculation is wrong, but because the next 35 days aren't going to be exactly like today.

Yes, she should use a food scale, but measuring instead of weighing has not caused a 4 pound gain in 2 weeks. When you see large weight fluctuations like that (in either direction) it is almost always water weight. She is likely retaining water for some reason. Might be TOM, but more likely its her muscles retaining water…

An excellent read!

I am a late night eater too. What I do to help keep in control of it are: 1) Save calories for the evening 2) Eat 80 - 100 grams of protein each day (I crave less junk when I eat high protein) 3) Drink lots of water (not just in the evening, but all day) 4) Eat something that satiates my craving. If I crave salty, eating…

One of the problems with appetite suppressants is you'd better be prepared to take them for the rest of your life. Because how are you going to handle the cravings when you stop taking them? My personal philosophy on weight loss is to not do anything I can't sustain indefinitely. I don't want to be on a 'diet'. Because…

How tall are you and what do you weight? How many pounds per week did you set as your goal to lose?
-
I usually prefer to spend my money and calories on different treats. The main time I drink it is as a mixer with alcohol, and I try to stick to diet. Mmmmmm rum & coke.

I joined an all ages martial arts class with my kids. I discovered I really like to punch and kick things! Plus they make it really hard to ditch class when I'm feeling lazy.
-
The advice you are getting is very wise. I have gone up and down with my weight for over a decade because I would always try to lose it too aggressively and then it was too hard to keep up with that much sacrifice, and I would quit. A little over a year ago a light went on, and made my journey more like what the people…

Please don't do any 'trash bag' trick. The only thing it will do is make you sweat more, so you risk dehydration. You don't want to lose water weight, you want to lose fat.
-
Amazing progress!! You probably have the best motivation I've ever read on this site. I'm so proud of you for taking it to heart. Keep up the great work!

Another problem is more of the mental game. If your 'diet' plan is too drastically different from your 'maintenance' plan, you will likely struggle a lot to keep the weight off. This is a time to learn about your body, how to moderate your food intake, what your triggers are, all sorts of things. But if you do too many…

Can't emphasize this idea enough!
