  • Seems to be a lot of comments about form, but not nearly enough about mobility. In my opinion, bad form often comes from a lack for proper mobility, so your body compensates by moving how it has to. Unfortunately, sometimes that movement is hard on the joints and thus you see this sort of pain. All the comments about…
  • Stop eating "Diet" food = Problem solved.
  • Strong first post. I agree with everything said. One other thing to keep in mind here too, while it can be discouraging to have that happen, it may have been beneficial in the long run because such diet breaks can help reset hormone levels that otherwise can lead to plateaus.
  • So if I'm understanding you correctly, you said a pair last 4 months? Based on your mileage, you're getting 350 miles out of a pair. That's more than some and less than others, but does not seem unusual at all to me.
  • Raw is not any better... Many commercial chicken products these days are injected with "up to 10%" of a primarily saline based flavorizer. Thus the raw weight will vary too. Look, my point is not to discourage anyone, in fact just the opposite. I think some people take the calorie counting thing too far when this is all…
  • While I get your point, I'm puzzled by this assumption the weight is the gold standard by which we judge calorie content. I think both the tuna and the soup examples posted above are illustrative. Water is fairly heavy and has no calories. How do you know that the weight difference between 1 package and another is not…
  • I highly recommend a heart rate monitor. They are not perfect by any means, but they do a better job than the guesstimates on MFP. I have a Polar FT7 and my wife has a Polar FT4 and both are excellent.
  • Hmm, that's concerning. If this is true OP, it sounds like you're looking for the kind of attention and support we can't provide you here. I urge you to seek professional help for your issues and wish you all the luck in the world.
  • In reality, you probably need to give yourself a rest day every now and again. Going at it nonstop day after day is actually counter productive and makes me think you're likely over-training. I also agree with the others on there that if you've been doing the same thing that long and you're not losing, maybe it's time to…
  • I'm a little confused here... You seem to be suggesting that if the craving is emotional in nature, it's not "real". That seems odd to me. Did you feel it? Then yes it's real. I'm thinking what you may really be asking is are there nutritional reasons why we crave particular foods, or are all cravings just emotional. If…
  • McTaffy, I've suffered from back issues for many years and have had mixed results with PT's as well as Chiropractic. Sometimes it helps, and sometimes it doesn't. That said, my issues are probably different and you may find one of those is all you need. For me the only thing the seems to give any lasting relief has been…
  • If swimming's out, do you have access to a bike? Because of my knee issues, I struggle frequently with walking, and running is a complete no go, but I can ride a bike without problems. Of course there's no guarantee it would be any better for you, it depends on why you're having pain. Another thought, I don't have any…
  • FR sent! I'm glad to hear you've managed to avoid the surgery. It's not fun. I've had multiple knee surgeries and 4 shoulder surgeries to date and I definitely think the shoulder recovery was WAY worse than the knee.
  • I'm also confused here? Was it your intention to start an actual group over in the "Groups" section, or were you just going to keep this as a running thread? Also, are folks adding others that post here to their FL or no?
  • I'm right there with you. I'm a disabled vet and have a couple chronic issues that I deal with (knee and back). I was doing pretty well going from 302 down to 218 in about a year, when I tore my rotator cuff last summer. After the injury, I put on a little weight, but mostly maintained until after the surgery. At that…
  • Are you actually hungry at 5-6am? I get up about 5:30 most morning and used to eat around 6 cause everyone said "you're supposed to", even though I realized I wasn't really hungry then. When eating that early, it was really hard to make it through the day, even if I snacked as some others are suggesting. (Plus snacking was…
  • My thoughts are pretty much consistent with this: http://www.livescience.com/35561-5-experts-answer-juice-cleanse.html
  • Sure, dihydrogen monoxide. 100% effective...
  • And bacon. Don't forget bacon.
  • I understand what you're going through. I've now been married 25 years, but my parents got divorced when I was a teen. When I got married, I told my then future wife that I wasn't going to do this if she didn't understand that to me it's FOREVER. So were there ever times when we both struggled with that commitment? Sure.…
  • I'm sure other will chime in here, but a couple of things stand out to me: 1. What are you using to estimate your BMR? 1780 seems high for a 45 yo female. Your typical online calculator tends to overestimate BMR for very overweight or obese people because they assume a more normal ratio of muscle to fat than you have. What…
  • And weight, and gender, and fitness level, hence why a heart rate monitor can better estimate the number of calories burned. For reference, walking around my neighborhood (hilly), as a ~250 lb male, I might burn ~400 in 45 minutes. 700? Either you're much bigger than me, walking up a steep hill, or something's off.
  • I'm a bit surprised at all the people saying "buy this product" or "buy that product". If you need to chop the budget, telling you to buy something else beside the gym membership won't help. My suggestion is to look up bodyweight only workouts on the web. I'm assuming you're planning to keep your Internet access? If not,…
  • Walking. I'm 3 weeks post shoulder surgery so I understand not wanting to do anything too stressful. I can walk fine, but can't swing my arm, or put any weight on it. Walking is a fine cardio exercise, it's just going to take a longer time investment to burn the same # of calories you would have running.
  • Great post! I could have written it myself. I went from 302 all they way down to 218, then tore up my shoulder and ended up having 2 surgeries to fix it. I've gained back over 40 pounds in the 9 months since the original injury. I was wallowing in self-pity over that and some other significant family related stressors. In…
  • It seems exceedingly odd to me that your HRM would not have weight listed? That's the single most important factor! If it really doesn't, I have to wonder if you should that that sucker back and get a better one.
  • I really doubt there's much you can do to work your shoulders that won't hurt. My advice is just to take it easy and not worry about it. I've had 4 different shoulder surgeries (the last one just 3 weeks ago). I promise you, you don't want to make the problem worse. Right now I'm not even supposed to lift my arm under it's…
  • As some have pointed out, it's just rounding errors. Macros are often calculated down to .5 grams, but for most commercial packaging, this gets rounded up to the next whole number. Even if the food in question didn't get rounded, MFP rounds it up becasue it only allows whole numbers in the macros.
  • Personally, I think you may be over-thinking this? In terms of the first part of your question, you wanted to know if you should just lose fat, or gain muscle and lose fat. The percentages and weights you listed are basically meaningless in my opinion. Isn't what matters whether or not you're happy with the way your body…
