  • I love good craft beers and drink them to excess. IPAs are my personal favorite. I refuse to drink any Bud, Miller, or Coors and I am shocked and disgusted by the number of bars and restaurants that limit their offerings to those watered down brews.
  • Excellent point.
  • If you've never lifted before, it might be worth the investment to hire a personal trainer for a couple sessions. Only caution, they're going to try to sell you their services and discourage the DVD program. My wife and I are about six weeks into Chalean Extreme and we love it. It isn't our first experience with weight…
  • I always suspected I wasn't the only one following this routine.
  • I know you'll succeed.
  • Good job! You have abs that would be impressive on a woman with no children.
  • Try calf raises. Stand upright holding dumbbells then raise up onto the balls of your feet. Do a set with your feet at a 45 degree angle then another set with your feet parallel. You won't need a lot of weight to start. Leg workouts always kick my butt.
  • I'm doing my second round after a ten month layoff. I'd be happy to support you even though we are three weeks out of sync. I did 'Lean' the first time but now I am doing 'Classic'. I feel it is a better program but both will give great results.
  • I'm 60 and I do P90X. If you are in good shape and don't push yourself trying to exercise at the same level as the people on the DVDs, you'll be fine. Personally, I skip Plyometrics and do the CardioX instead because I don't feel my old knees can take the beating. As Tony Horton says repeatedly, "Do your best and forget…
  • I don't like revolved triangle pose. It just feels like I'm on the edge of a serious back injury. Favorite poses change as I learn difficult poses but of basic poses that I've been doing since I started practicing, shoulder stand is my favorite. Inversions are our only way of fighting back against gravity.
  • My pet peeve are the entries without micro-nutrients. There is more to good nutrition than just calories, carbs, fat, and protein.
  • Exercising doesn't have to be a half hour in the weight room or a five mile run. When you get home from work take a walk around the block, then build on that.
  • Keep logging, even if you know you are going way over, because once you get your head straight you'll still be in the habit of logging. Otherwise, it will easy to say "Okay, I'm ready I'll start logging on Monday". Problem is, Monday will turn into next Monday. If you're already logging, it is easy to say "Okay, today is…
  • Potassium is so important I am surprised how little attention people give it. A lot of potassium rich food have an entry of '0' in the MFP database because users only enter calories, protein, carbs, and fat. I correct these entries whenever I find them. If you are trying to boost your potassium intake, two items that are…
  • As I completed P90X my wife wanted to start an exercise program but she knew she wasn't up to doing P90X so we ordered SI6 and did it together. My opinion is based on having just completed P90X which I found very challenging. I thought SI6 was good cardio that was fun without having any crazy moves. The core work was also…

  • I would like to float from down dog to forward fold. That is, I want to throw my hips up straight over my hands so hands; arms; and body are all in a straight line, then gracefully fold my legs down between my hands. I work on this constantly and it is improving but I've still got a long way to go.
  • You say you love numbers and tracking. I'm the kind of person who gets as much pleasure out of reading the box scores as I do watching the baseball game. If you can relate to that statement, you'll love having a Fitbit.
  • I'm 60 and after a year of diet and exercise I have what looks like a Shar Pei surrounding my belly button. I do have defined lats and overall I look better than I have in twenty years. I know it's not what you were looking for but if we all looked like underware models, a lot of underware models would be out of work.…
  • I practice four times a week at the studio. I can't do yoga on my own nearly as well because I can't stay in the moment if I'm thinking ahead to the next pose; so I rarely practice at home.
  • I just did my first Warrior dash and like you, it was my first 5k. I didn't do any running to prepare, just kept up with my strength training three days a week and yoga also three days a week. At the start of the WD it was a full mile to the first obstacle and I surprised myself by running the whole way non-stop. I seemed…
  • I think you'll enjoy "Legs and Back" on Friday.
  • I did P90X last year and had great results. It is expensive but for me it was worth the price to have a well designed program. I plan on doing it again this summer.
  • Whatever else I am, when practicing yoga, I am a yogi.
  • About a year ago I did the P90X DVD program. On "Yoga-X" day I noticed the trainer, Tony Horton, would walk around the gym adjusting the exercise models' poses. He never came into my living room to adjust my poses, so I thought it might be a good idea to take some classes. It was a smart move. Now I go to yoga four or more…
  • Way to go Scott! I started with Power 90 then moved on to P90X. I'm doing Power 90 again with the a mix of P90 Masters before doing another round of P90X. If you are planning on following up with P90X, I suggest that you do some pullups, palms facing away, on the Sculpt days so you're ready for P90X.
  • I work odd hours and can't get to a gym without totally disrupting family life. I exercise at home with severel DVD programs and got better results than when I was going to the gym. If money is tight, you can borrow exercise DVD from the library or watch a large selection on youtube.
  • I was married to a woman who said the exact same things to me. I was fat the whole 29 years we were together because her 24 hour abuse zapped the strength from me. I stuck with her because that sadist had me convinced I didn't deserve any better. I only got free because I was lucky enough to outlive her. For the last eight…
  • I lived in Japan for three years in the 70s then again for two years in the 90s. When I left the second time I was literally as big as a sumo wrestler. Be very careful of the delicious food.
  • When we went on vacation this summer my wife and commited ourselves to walk 10,000 steps a day. We were closer to 15,000 each day. We ate and drank and still lost weight ate the end of the week. Fitbit helped keep us on track and we had a fantastic vacation. One little thing, but it has had a huge impact on our life.
  • I did the yoga videos that were in P90X then started going to yoga class. P90X is expensive so I wouldn't buy it just for the yoga. However, it is great if you want to do the whole program. If you want to do yoga to lose weight look for a power yoga, vinyasa yoga, or yoga flow. It moves at a faster pace and will burn…
