Has anyone lost a significant amount by just doing yoga? I really liked the few times ive done it and its something i can do at home after work and school especially on those days I don't get home until 11. Any pointers or cheaper workout video ideas? Thanks!

I love wii fit yoga... but you tube has tones of videos..for free. My favorite it on line has a few free ones, but I like the combo of barre, yoga and pilates - www.barre3.com... there are several others out there ...but I find it has helped my posture and toning my core quite well!

  • I really like yoga, but it is unlikely to help much in losing weight. I am a fan of intense late-night workouts, of which there are lots on youtube.com. It might be a better use of your time, if weight loss is your goal.

I haven't heard of anyone losing a significant amount of weight doing so, but I still think it's a fantastic form of exercise!

I did the yoga videos that were in P90X then started going to yoga class. P90X is expensive so I wouldn't buy it just for the yoga. However, it is great if you want to do the whole program.
If you want to do yoga to lose weight look for a power yoga, vinyasa yoga, or yoga flow. It moves at a faster pace and will burn slightly more calories than the more traditional forms. You said your plan was to do yoga at home because of your schedule, but try to make it to a few classes. It is easy to fall into bad habits that could be harmful. Even advanced yogis need their postures adjusted by an instructor once in a while.
Good luck with your practice. I know you'll enjoy it.

Yoga is a practice that incorporates a state of mind as well as being physical. I just started practicing "hot yoga" and I'm in love with it! It totally puts me at peace and because I sweat my a** off for an hour and a half, I feel really cleansed. I've also noticed a difference in my strength and flexibility which has benefited me in other forms of exercises that I do. I think it's a great form of exercise! I've also found that everyone

You just have to do your research and find one that has the right instructor for your needs. I lost 20 lbs doing yoga as my only exercise, twice a week. I was also calorie counting, but I assume you are too.

I had never heard of it, but I would shy away from gimmicky Yoga programs. It is a discipline that really shouldn't be commercialized and regurgitated into some Westernized weirdness.
