I'm an AmeriCorps service member (basically doing a year of "government sponsored" community service). As such, I get SNAP benefits, as they're called here in California. I have a few points: *I have a taxable income of zero dollars a month and receive $130.42 a month in SNAP benefits. I usually manage to make that last…

I like lemon juice, mustard, and mashed avocado. Adjust proportions to taste, add some herbs, bam!

You are at a healthy weight already. Your BMI is 23.4 (the healthy range is 18.5-24.9). You are also young and active. 1200 calories, particularly gross calories, are not enough for you. Now, okay, maybe you want to lose some vanity pounds. You want to look fitter and tighter. That's cool! Here are my recommendations to…

I think it depends on how you carry your weight. If you carry it mainly in one area, a ten pound loss can definitely be noticeable, whereas if you carry it more evenly spread around your body (as I do), then a ten pound loss is actually a bunch of one-pound losses, and it's not noticeable at all.

I feed myself and my boyfriend, virtually all meals eaten at home or brought to work, mostly "clean" whole foods, on about $200 a month in the Bay Area. Here are my tips: Focus on seasonality. You can find seasonal vegetable charts, often tailored to your general area, with a google search. Vegetables and fruits that are…

Hey guys, I'm looking to get back into it myself. Feel free to add me!

I'm a bike commuter (and weigh a lot!) so I eat a lot... currently 1800-2000 ish. Feel free to add me.

Feel free to add me! Getting started again myself.

Also getting back on track. Feel free to add me.

I'm also back after a year in Korea. Feel free to add me.

Feel free to add me. I try to limit my meat intake for environmental reasons, bike-commuting, educational arborist lady.

For me, the day off from logging is more of a mental break to allow me to feel "normal" amongst all the other twenty-somethings who can eat whatever they feel like. I also usually wind up having some sort of cheat meal, rather than eating junk all day. I do try to save it for social obligations, like picnics or work…

I'm 5'8" (174 cm), and the shortest I have dated was 5'7". I actually prefer to date guys around my height or just a bit taller (5'9"-5'10") than super tall guys, but of course I would make an exception in either direction (tall or short) if I really liked the guy. Being quite tall myself, I don't know if I'd be interested…

I'm pretty "average." I'm not fast, that is. :) I can do one km in about 5:30. That is, like, fall down and gasp at the end of it pace. I can do ten in about 65 minutes, so 6:30 each. Same thing, really exhausted at the end. If I'm running for "pleasure" then I usually go about 7 minutes per km.

Gum. Water. A rubber band around your wrist for your fingers to play with. The hardest thing for me was waiting for the bus... I would literally walk laps around the bus shelter to keep myself occupied. Just keep yourself (hands and mouth, too) occupied, and not with food. Good luck!

I've lost 73 pounds so far, and still have 15-20 to go. It's not 150, but it's almost 100! It's taken me a year and a half to lose those 73 pounds, and I'm fine with that. I've also gone from a size 20 to a 10, from totally sedentary to running a 10K and swimming for an hour straight. Even my skin is better. It's a long,…

They say that every single pound you lose takes four pounds of stress off of each knee. I know that when I started my weight loss journey at about 250 pounds, I couldn't do much high-impact stuff or my knees ached. Now, around 180, I can do pretty much anything. But that makes sense, as I've removed almost 300 pounds of…

I changed slowly. I still have a treat most days, but a lot of the food I used to eat slowly removed itself from my diet. I just decided that that small amount of food wasn't worth the calories in most cases when I could have heaps and heaps of healthy food.

The classes really help me push. My instructor is super cute (not physically, well that too, but just in her behavior) and high-energy. The group gets really into it! I think at home I would be sort of half-shaking it, but at class I kill it!

All sorts of workout videos exist, and they're on youtube, too. Just try lots of different things until you find a few you like. Don't worry about it if you have to modify things. I have a pretty lousy right wrist, so sometimes I have to do some yoga poses on my elbow/forearm, and that's ok! It doesn't stop me from doing…

I think the main difference, for me, is the difference between being hit on and being spoken to like a human being. I don't like lines or getting chatted up, but I'm generally open to a smiling face attempting to make real conversation, even if just starts out with lame small talk or even "hi." Exception, and it's a big…

I agree with what some others have said: when I was fat, I was happy. I mean, I knew I was fat, but I also didn't care in some way. Now that I've lost a lot of weight, I am so much more aware of my flaws and more critical of my body. I think because I'm paying attention to it. What has really helped me is focusing on my…

I'm 5'8.5" and I've lost around 72 pounds. I've gone from a tight size 18 (like really tight. I just refused to buy a size that started with 2) to a comfortable 12, though I could probably at this point squeeze into a tight 10. So, 4 sizes in 72 pounds? I also work out a lot and do lift, so I think I've maintained my…

I generally eat the same breakfast everyday. Snacks, I have like 5 that I rotate between. Dinner (which I cook two of, and bring one for lunch the next day) is usually some variation on veggies-protein-bit of whole starch. So not exactly the same thing every day, but in a routine, yes.

Have you tried ajvar? It's a tomato and pepper based spread that can be spicy or not. It's typical in Balkan food, and it makes ANY sandwich better!!

I also agree with the pre-portioned servings of meat. I also pre-cook a bunch of some starch and eat that throughout the week. Just add veggies and seasonings and you've got a nice meal! As far as stuff that can be totally "made" ahead of time: chili and soups! Soup soup soup. Lots of healthy casseroles out there, too. I…

I would agree with everyone that the whole "starvation mode" thing is rather... unnecessary to worry about for most people. On days I work out (5-6 days a week) I net below my BMR by 200-400 calories. But since I consume 1800-2000 calories every day, I don't worry about it so much. I'm pretty steadily losing about a pound…

Snacks. A bit of healthy fat. The occasional cookie. Sure, you can eat SUPER healthy and SUPER clean for awhile, but can you live like that forever? Would you want to? I NET 1400ish a day, but I eat 1800-2000 a day. I've NET 1400 (actually eating 1800-200) a day for over a year now, and I've lost almost 70 pounds.
