Change completely or eat the same but count?

I was just wondering what you did? Did you start by changing completely such as eating healthily and counting, or did you keep eating the same food but to a calorie goal?

When I started I ate a lot of the same foods I was eating but in smaller amounts to stay within my calorie goal. I also was open to trying new things which I found surprising that I liked so many things that I previously thought I didn't like. Now, I still eat the things I ate before I tend to eat them a lot less. Keep an open mind and remember, everything in moderation.

I eat the same foods now as I did 30 pounds ago, just in smaller portions. I'm conscious of what I'm putting in my mouth, and log it. I refuse to deprive myself of something I enjoy simply because it's "bad" food.

It depends what your diet is like. If you eat pretty healthy but large portions is the way you put on weight just reduce those. If though your diet consists of fast food and processed foods look at changing what you eat over time

Can't see what you eat so don't really know if you need to change things drastically. Personally I try to eat healthier but don't deprive myself of the stuff I like (within calories).

I changed slowly. I still have a treat most days, but a lot of the food I used to eat slowly removed itself from my diet. I just decided that that small amount of food wasn't worth the calories in most cases when I could have heaps and heaps of healthy food.

Personally I found when I started logging that I was quite surprised at how high in calories some foods were, that I had previously thought were "ok". I found that if I wanted to stay within my calorie goals I had to make some changes. It really depends what your diet is like in the first place. Its probably best to make gradual changes though and see how you go. Good luck

For me, it was/is somewhere in between. When I started on MFP I mostly ate as I did before, but fit it into my calorie goal. I made a few adjustments purely to save calories, like switching from two slices of bread for a sandwich to a wrap, and using tzatziki instead of mayo.

Over the months, I've paid more attention to my diet as a whole and made gradual changes. How I eat now is quite different to how I ate 18 months ago, but at the same time, the changes haven't been radical. There is no food that I ate before that I don't eat now, I'm just more conscious of portion sizes, and getting enough of the important nutrients. I am also more likely to forgo something that is high in calories and not really that worth it in terms of enjoyment. If I eat something now, it's either really nutritious, or really yummy (and hopefully both!)
