  • Yup. Again. What he said. I'm 48. I blew up right around 37. For the last ten years I've stayed reasonably active. It wasn't till last year when I seriously looked at the food in my daily diet that I've seen any change in my physique.
  • My kind of response. Being squicked, your advise might really help. For my first time (other then the "fresh" advice I'm getting) should I, with your resent experience, also go the skinless/boneless route? Doing it over again is this what you would do? Also, doing it over, would you still heat them?
  • Yup, unlike seemingly every other poster here. I eat a good breakfast, healthy snacks, a good lunch, and when it's dinner time, if I have the time, and in the right place, and I haven't already blown the day, I'll look at what is left to meet my daily goal and try and hit the number.
  • If you are into such things. The July 2011 issue of Consumer Reports Magazine rates yogurts. Both Greek and ..uh..normal.
  • Plain, full-fat, a couple of oz of cut up ripe fruit, a teaspoon of honey. I'd take that any day of the week over ice-cream or just about anything else. "Greek Gods" and "Fage" both make a regular full-fat version. Good and good for you. You can't lose. What brand was your yogurt?
  • We are of similar stature. I also want to run a Marathon. What I decided to do was get to a good marathon weight first, then start the training for it. I think hard marathon training is much easier on my body once I came out of being obese and then in to overweight and then into a better running weight. Doing it backwards,…
  • Yup, what he said. I'm 5'8" SW:234 CW:153 GW:149 Your success in getting to your goal weight will come from you putting 80% of your time, energy, and discipline into the food you eat and 20% into what type of exercise you do. Kick absolute butt on eating a perfect diet, then just do something active 5 or 6 times a week and…
  • Steel-cut oats with a pat of butter and a sprinkle of brown sugar is breakfast. Steel-cut oats can then be substituted for rice as a side. Think Spanish rice using steel-cut instead of rice.
  • Two thing: First on the radio this morning the silly DJ said "Don't call it almond milk. Milk only comes from nipples and there are no nipples on almonds." Funny. Second, what about the "don't drink your calories" idea. Is it really a good idea to drink almond milk, instead of a glass of water, a cube of sugar and a…
  • This is pretty much my reason for not changing it when I gain. It is a mini-goal sitting there for me. As I generally am losing weight this works. If I every give up I probably should update it then, except I will have given up and probably won't be logging into MFP. A more interesting thing facing me is, when I reach my…
  • It is really interesting the 1980s and later "Fat" hysteria. Personal preference 100% Okay, do what every you want. But what is *good* for you and what is *bad* for you are really challenging questions which I don't believe I, or anyone else on this thread, has completely answered. One exampe that cracks me up (laughing at…
  • Looks you are getting close to swimsuit day. Good for you. Still plenty of summer left too.
  • industrial size salsa. It's low calorie. On or in beans, eggs, rice, pasta, steel-cut oats(really), barley, vegetables, and about 100 other things I'm not thinking about. If you are from the mid-west you can get "Mild"
  • If you were to eat more and do consistent weight bearing exercises (read: lift weight) you can increase your lean body mass. 5lbs of muscle, your lean body mass is now 100lbs, you want to have 25% body fat. 100 / (1-25%) = 134 lbs. I think if you gain five pounds of solid muscle and lean down to 25% body fat you would not…
  • Interesting topic. I found this nice summary on the net

  • Okay single digiters. It's looking like we'll all join forces starting this Tuesday. As it is a group commitment, everyone should have some say in how it all works. -weekly weighins -mini exercise goal -Report back to the group. - Etc.I need a challenge. I'd like people who want to hit a small discreet target goal, with…
  • Not to be flippant at all, it hates you too. It is looking to hold you back and make it all harder. Keep at it, you can do it and we'll all be here to support you on your way.
  • Yup this did come out recently. I weigh everyday. I think popular wisdom is that weighing once a week or a month is better. It isn't but I think I know why people say (and do) that. Some people have some sort of a weird phobia/addiction/anxiety around scales. Many people, including me, just look at it like data coming,…
  • Hello, Just a note, I jog a handful of times a week. I ride my bike around the hills for :60 once or twice a week. On very rare occasions I'll do a set of weight lifting. BUT my Friday morning :90 min yoga class is the hardest workout I do all week. There is something to be said for engaging your core, balancing, etc. Not…
  • Well things have slowed on the ol' thread. I think it is time for the challenge
  • Any other ideas? A group, or a challenge of single digiters to power down and hit goal. What do you think?
  • I'd love to hear some peer support ideas where we could all power down to goal. The first one that popped into my head is a all-reach-goal idea. With my last challenge it was 12 weeks, and some challenges are to X lbs., like a 100lbs challenge, or a 20 lbs challenge. I was thinking a core dedicated group gets together,…
  • Wow, great. I'm hoping to get a couple of "single digits to go" people working together to reach goal. I was in my first challenge recently. It was a 12-week "check-in with each other" challenge. It was good to be accountable. Everyone in the challenge lost. From 19 to 3 lbs. I lost 12 lbs. So, what do you think. Are you…
  • Me too. In a very out of character way, this morning after waking I had a plum, a mango, a banana, grapes, a kiwi, and just a small scoop of Greek yogurt for breakfast. Definitely something in the water nowadays.
  • Congratulations. I *hope* I am about a month or so away from where you are. Lot's of good suggestions, and clearly a lot of folks find themselves in a similar situation. What I am doing is that I told myself that I have a two part goal Part 1) got to a number that I'll call my interim goal weight. Part 2) Stay almost…
  • In 25 days I lost 0.2 lbs. a bad plateau. Then in the last three weeks I've dropped 5.0 lbs. I've kept steady, it just sort of cycles. If you doing the dutiful just hold tight and be patient. Don't get discouraged.
  • I came in at 155.2 lbs this morning. Three pounds....I'm ready for July 4th over-indulgence, well at least reasonable indulgence. ..
  • Re: Editing posts I'm not 100$, but I think you can edit your post up until somebody else posts a reply.
  • I am 100% certain that science has not figured it out. There is no answer. Far and away the successful way of dealing with it, is that runners almost always have it go away after they start running regularly for a little while. It almost always goes away. It is very very common for runners just starting out. Nothing is…

  • Stood up on a date last weekend. Downed about 1500K of starbucks chocolate junk. I felt more horrible about binging than the prospective date. I got back on it. You can too.
