Before: (2007) 240 lbs, eating & drinking everything in sight: Today: 160 lbs, have kept it off for years. YOU CAN DO THIS.

My first year or so I missed it. I thought I was bored; but I now realize that what I mistook for boredom back then was actually an absence of chaos in my life! It's also quite the slap in the face when you realize how much money drinking causes. Not just the cost of booze & bars, but I would spend stupid money when…

52 here, highest was 2007 when I was 237 at the Dr's office. Started with Nutrisystem, then started my own thing, got down to 175 by 2010 & have been 170-190 for the last decade (variation directly tied to logging my food & exercise - or not.) Was 180 at the 1st of the year & really decided to hammer it - and I'm now down…

Yeah I'm 52 and I quit almost 10 years ago. I started losing weight 14 years ago, and I used to factor in my alcohol calories when tracking "("Welp, if I want to party tonight, gotta skip lunch") but once I hit 40 the hangovers started getting too rough for me. I'm the same as you - I'm building a healthy body foundation…

Just checking in on this room. Been a lurker for a little while. After almost 3 years of the "try to quit/pick up a drink/drive my life into a ditch/try to quit" cycle, I've now got 9 years, 7 months, 12 days, 9 hours of sobriety. Life's never been better. Gone from 237 lbs to 159 lbs over those years as well. You hear it…

In 2007 I decided to get serious about losing weight & getting back in shape. Initial weigh in was 237 lbs (5' 10"). In 2 months got to Onederland, and I've been 170-190 ever since. Anyway, got up to 189 this Jan 1st, and decided to rededicate myself to 3 days on / 1 day off / 365 days a year workout routine, and really…

That it would make my wife self-conscious. We've been together for 28 years; I was a gym rat & in really good shape shape when we first got together (at 23) but I ballooned to almost 240 lbs by our 15th year together. 13 years ago I dropped 60 lbs - and have kept it off ever since. I work out regularly and watch what I…

When I'm in serious weight loss mode, I brew a pot of decaf after work. Sipping on a cup eliminates the urge to snack. I also have a cup after dinner to eliminate the dessert cravings!

14 years ago, 37 yrs old, my passport photo: 240 lbs & a burger & booze junkie: Now, 170 lbs, sober almost 10 years

Proof you can lose it & keep it off: 2007, 37 yrs old, daily drinker, ate everything. 240 lbs: 13 yrs later, 50th birthday, 168 lbs: There is life after alcoholic obesity! Get after it!!!

Sup geezers & happy Monday. Anyone else have SI joint issues? Such a pain in the ***. leaning over my desk to plug in a new monitor and - klunk - now I'm hobbled & waiting for the chiropractor to call me back. SIGH. I'm in the best shape of my life, yet every now and then my body decides to remind me that I'm 50!!!

What worked for me in the beginning was taking shirtless pic, printing it & putting it on the fridge. It was a fantastic motivator.

Fitting into some work shirts that have been too tight for 2 years!

Sup all, glad I saw this thread! Just turned 50, here's me on the beach that day: Gotta admit I'm pretty proud of this pic, considering I was 237 pounds on my 40th birthday:

Personally, I was hoping for Bran to warg into The Mountain, rip Euron's arm off & beat Cersei to death with it

I started at 240 lbs in 2007, hit goal (170) around 2010 & have been in maintenance ever since. I haven't been perfect, I've bounced between 165 - 185 for the better part of a decade, but when I'm most successful (over 175 is what I call "the jiggle zone" - if I get over that, it's time to tighten **** up) is I have a…

That reminds me of another thing I heard in the rooms. Someone was talking about seeing people sitting on the patio at a restaurant on a summer day, drinking beer & laughing. She said she initially really missed that & had a pang of jealousy...but what you have to do is watch the movie to the end. And for her, the beers &…

Thanks man. You CAN do it! I lost most of it from 2007-2010, and I've been in maintenance mode ever since. Haven't seen the 200s since 2008....A couple times I crept back up to 180-185, but for the most part, I've stayed around 175. A good 3-4 weeks of carb slashing gets me back to sub-170 (like I did for my 50th Bday…

2007 - 240 lbs Last week (50th birthday) - 168 lbs

My 2007 passport pic vs. a few weeks ago I might be a bit healthier now

I realize that I may be the exception here, but I do feel obligated to throw this out there. I've been sober over 7 years, but it took me almost 3 years of going in & out of AA to finally lose the compulsion to drink. I've got a drawer full of 24 hr, 30 day, 60 day, 90 day chips. I never "did the work". Never got a…

This is me 10 years ago. 40 yrs old, 240 lbs, drinking Beam Black & Diet every day. This me last week, 50th birthday, 168 lbs, 7 years, 3 months, 22 days sober. Wish I had sobered up 10 years earlier. My 30s were a complete waste of time.

10 years ago, 40 yrs old, my passport photo: 240 lbs & a burger junkie: Last week (my 50th birthday), 168 lbs, on a Caribbean beach: You're never too old to turn the ship around!

When I'm in serious loss mode, I brew a pot of flavored decaf when I get home from work & sip a cup before & after dinner. Keeps the sweet/snacking cravings away.

Thanks! But I'm 47 ... lol
