  • I'm no expert but I would say 2 pounds in 21 days is actually pretty good for your weight. I'm in the 120s, and I've learned that the lower in weight I've gotten, the harder and longer it takes to get the pounds off. At this point I would love to lose 2 pounds in three weeks! All I can really say is keep up with it - if…
  • Thanks guys! So stick with the weight training? I like the idea of fewer reps, lighter weights too perhaps?
  • I think you'll know you've reached your goal when you get there! I'm 5'5", small framed. I started off at 165 lbs with a goal of 140. Reached that, and then said 130. Reached that and then 127. Reached that and said 117. It's been a year and I've been sitting comfortably at 125. I wear a size 4 and can sometimes fit into a…
  • Ultimately, they had to let out my dress just a bit and then add cups because I didn't fill out the top part quite enough. It ended up zipping a few months after I bought it but it was too risky to try to drop weight or inches so close to my wedding which is now in less than 6 weeks. I've still been working out like crazy…
  • Hi all! I finished the 30 Day Shred last week but I'm still using it as my primary strength training routine, just alternating now between level 2 and level 3. As someone who just finished the Shred I can assure you it WILL get easier! Yes you will feel sore but just push through! I've read in interviews that Jillian…
  • I wish I had some advice for you! I'm seeing a doctor tomorrow about this (not specifically squats but exercising and having knee pain as well). If I learn anything new I'll share. Good luck!
  • You're going to look great! Don't be like me and get a dress that's too small though ;) You'll be great! Congratulations!!
  • Totally. I'm happy when I look in the mirror and I'm happy with what I've achieved, ultimately. Scale or no scale, nobody knows that number, but it's been the only way I've known how to really measure. It wasn't until recently I used a tape measure to see the difference - it hit me when I bought a pair of 27" pants the…
  • Thanks for your input! Until just six days ago I was doing strength about 3 times a week - one day I'd focus on legs, squat presses / hip abduction / hip adduction machines / maybe some calves. Another day devoted to abs and back (I kind of LOVE sit-ups, they hurt the most) - sit ups on a ball / torso twist / vertical leg…
  • That is definitely one of my regrets is not strength training sooner! I only started about a year ago, seriously committing in September. Previously I had thought "what's the point, you're not gonna see muscle underneath fat." Oh how little I knew then!
  • I think after 8 months now you're probably right. I've learned, too, with my HRM that I'm actually burning less in my cardio routine than I thought anyway. i'm getting pretty efficient. Not a bad thing but like you said, I probably don't need to be doing as much as I have been. I didn't mention this, but I did get a…
  • OK, awesome! I just started the 30 day shred, which for now is challenging in terms of strength training for me because it's consistent. I think it's easier for me too at this point to change up my workouts than my eating, which is kind of a relief (unless you say otherwise!). I feel like I can't possibly eat less, too…
  • I started on Saturday, March 2! I took yesterday off but still hit the gym. Here we go!
  • CONGRATS! How did you switch up your routine? More cardio? More strength? Less? Or just different?
  • Wow, thank you! Haha. I look so grumpy in that picture (I was NOT happy about having to wear a skintight dress as a bridesmaid dress!), so that means a lot. I also love your advice about accepting and loving one's self. I think that actually helps in a weight loss journey or fitness transformation. I never embarked on this…
  • Curses! Let's try that again.
  • Thank you for your input! I will never lose my curves, that's for sure! I probably should have mentioned I'm quite the pear when it comes to my shape, here might be a more realistic photo (this dress is obviously too small!): I think you have a point there- more protein. i struggle with that, I changed my macro levels on…
  • I've seen the "In Place of a Roadmap" mentioned MANY times here, and I have read it several times. Now, I like math, but I'm still not sure I understand. My BMR is 1350. I would love to eat more to weigh less... I have plateaued now for 8 months. My average calorie intake is 1500 (during the week I consume between…
  • Thanks for the post! In that case I can just do the workout after work (not my preference cos I'm usually pooped but as Ms. Michaels preaches, "get comfortable with being uncomfortable," right? So other than a jump rope, weights and a mat, anything else one needs?
  • I'd love to do it and can pick it up tonight! But first, I must ask - is there a lot of jumping involved? I ask because I live in a second floor apartment with hardwood floors and an elderly woman living downstairs and I work out at 6:30 a.m. - so don't want to upset her... please let me know!
  • Thanks for this valuable input! I thought that getting the HRM (I have the Polar F4) would show that I was burning more. In fact, in my less frequent exercises, it shows I burn significantly more than MFP (Spinning: 430 HRM; 320 MFP // Yoga: 180 HRM; 65 MFP). However on the elliptical it's a difference between 345 HRM and…
  • I did this - I bought my dress off the rack, which was a size too small, 6 months before my first fitting thinking I could drop some weight. Buying the dress saved me $1500 which is why I did it. Anyways, I had my fitting last week and it zipped (!!) but still too snug, so they are now making it bigger. IF they can make…
  • Thank you! I know I've come along way and I do think that perhaps strength training will help me the rest of the way- I've only begun that a few months ago. Like a lot of women, my middle is my biggest problem area. It's where I keep excess for sure, and also hard for me to take it off. And yes I still have boobs! I've…
  • I know, I know, I've been doing more or less of the same thing - eating, exercising - for months! I just don't know what to change? Eat more? Eat less? More cardio? More strength? Different exercises in general? I'm starting to think it's not the number it's the method..!!!
  • That is an excellent way of looking at it! Perspective is everything!!!
  • I am 124 right now and my goal is 117. I'm 5'5'' and small framed. 109 pounds is the lowest end of a weight range for someone my height (according to my handy dandy skinfold caliper guidebook). My goal is still above that and I don't want to be that thin, trust me. My BMR is 1,350 and my TDEE is around 2300. Whew!
  • I definitely agree about toning being the most important. Not that losing 50 lbs isn't a huge victory, but a couple weeks ago, for the first time *in my entire life* I did a push-up. And not just one push-up, THREE. I was so happy! I definitely recognize the importance and value of that. I also know that I'm putting myself…
  • It's interesting how it happens! Some people shed the weight quickly and others, like myself, it's a very slow process. In my mind, way better to lose weight slowly then say, GAIN! But bustin' it at the gym and counting calories... while I actually enjoy it, I want to enjoy it more because I've reached my goal and want to…
