  • How long has the scale not moved? If it's only been one week, that's not really long enough to even consider a plateau. Have you changed your exercise routine during the time your scale stopped moving? An increase in intensity or exercise type can cause water retention, so it can seem like you're not losing weight. There…
  • Anyone can add me. I'm almost 43 years old and short - 5'3". I stick to 1200 calories on most days with a "cheat" day about once a week. I'm always interested in ideas for low-calorie meals and snacks.
  • I will run my first Spartan sprint in April. It's really boosted my motivation to exercise and get as fit as possible. I'm a little scared, but I'm mostly excited to challenge myself in a new way. Congrats on a great race!
  • Thanks for the response. That was a great article and cleared things up very well.
  • Thanks for asking this. I belong to Lifetime Fitness as well and was given the same sales pitch about metabolic testing. I haven't done it, but I was wondering. I think they also told me it would give information about oxygen levels? VO2 levels? I don't remember the term. It was essentially supposed to tell you your…
  • I've heard it's a blast from several others who are veterans of the race. Plus, people on the team help each other with obstacles, at least on "1-2-3 Death!" I've only been signed up for a week, but it's really given me added motivation to train consistently and to push myself more while training. No matter how I do in the…
  • Where can I buy one?!
  • You are right to be cautious about the exercise calories. They're a guesstimate. If you are slightly underestimating calories eaten and slightly overestimating exercise calories burned, then you can actually gain weight or just make no progress when you think you've been sticking to the program. Many people don't eat back…
  • Thank you for the info! I am definitely investing in a digital scale.
  • I regret not maintaining my fitness level and healthy weight when I had them. It would have been so much easier to maintain my athletic level of fitness and body fat than to gain weight and become sedentary... more than once. So here I am AGAIN with more than 30 pounds to lose, and I am in the worst shape I've ever been…
  • I only had time to skim, but I plan on reading your whole story when I have more time. What a tremendous accomplishment! I would love to hear from you again in 6 months or so to find out how you're managing your maintenance. Congrats on the new you!
  • Thanks for sharing your story. The read is as motivational as the pictures. Actually, the read is more motivational since you explain your attitude, goals, and process. It's also encouraging for me to hear how successful the lifting has been with little to no cardio. I tried training for a 5k, but one of my knees (which…
  • I have been trying to jog the last few weeks, but have had issues with it causing my right knee to ache. This same knee has been injured before, and I had to have a meniscus repair as well as an ACL replacement. I can't decide if I just need to work up to jogging, or if it's just not going to be able to be my thing. Any…
  • What amazing changes you have made! Thanks for sharing specifics about what has worked for you. I like the idea of taking a break every now and then from strict calorie limiting so that you don't feel deprived. I think it's too early in my weight loss journey for me to do that since every pound lost feels like a…
  • Thanks for sharing your story! This really gives me hope as I just started trying to "run" a few weeks ago. I started exactly the way you did, huffing and puffing after very short periods of jogging and walking the rest of the time. I have already noticed improvement, but I still don't feel like a runner. I'm hoping to be…
  • I'm so glad you posted this. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who has to walk/jog... and slowly! I just started two weeks ago. I'm not doing the C25K. I just started walking/jogging on my own using Runkeeper. I've already seen some improvement, but I was also appalled at how difficult it was and still is. We…
  • Thanks for sharing your story! As a fellow geek, I can relate to your story, and you are definitely an inspiration for me! Today, I am recovering from spending the last four days at Gen Con Indy. My husband and I also dress up for conventions, and it really makes me aware of how I look, just as it did for you. I am just…
  • Gamer geek. RPG's, LARP's, board games, card games, World of Warcraft. Big science fiction and fantasy fan, both in literature and movies. My favorite time of the year is Gen Con, the best four days in gaming!
  • Lifetime Fitness at 96th St and 465. Anyone else go there?
  • Jason Young 695-9748 I don't know if that's current contact info. It's been awhile for me.
  • You may not be eating enough calories. If you eat too few, your metabolism slows down to accommodate the small intake of food. Building muscle through strength training is a great way to boost your metabolism 24/7. The more muscle you have, the more calories you use while doing anything.
  • I'm glad you're hanging in there and not getting discouraged. I admire your motivation! I hope you feel better soon.
  • You shouldn't just rest b/c of muscle soreness. If you wait for the soreness to go away, you'll just get really sore all over again the next time. I would, however, recommend taking the intensity down a bit until you become stronger. Being so sore that you can hardly move or having your muscles so torn apart that they can…
