  • You make a great point and I did kinda forget that! However, I'm still gonna say financial contributions speak loudly about the demand for a thing. Given that the parent company probably has no emotional ties to MFP and views it as a mere asset in a portfolio of property, just think how easily they could pull the plug if…
  • Quite right. Just make sure you're accurate when logging and measure everything until you get an innate sense of what foods "cost." It's easy to get out of whack if you wing it.
  • I wasn't interested in the extra features, but I wanted to contribute to MFP and the program's further development. MFP gives me soooooo much benefit, the little bit of money I pay annually doesn't seem like much.
  • Without meaning to sound obnoxious, I would suggest to just make an educated guess. That's the type of log entry where I tell myself, "I didn't get fat eating boiled corn." Which means, I stress way less about exactly weighing broccoli, fruits or even grilled chicken breast. I'll find an MFP entry that seems high and one…
  • I wonder if the OP would classify himself as OCD at all? If so, he didn't mention it, but some of his thought processes seem to indicate that. I dunno. Maybe it was just due to a random choice of words he made and I'm completely off base. I've just struggled with it from time to time and the way I want things to conform to…
  • OP, your progress is outstanding. Keep that positive momentum up. On a side note, and to no one in particular, I have found that I can easily wipe out 6 days of caloric deficit in one "party day." I literally have to log 7 days a week and verify I'm down 3500 calories total from TDEE to ensure I lose a pound a week.…
  • I had/have a lot in common with the OP. Everything I want to do on the weekends is calorie dense. I thought I was dieting by being good Monday through Thursday, beers on Friday night, go crazy all Saturday and bloody Mary brunches on Sunday. Obviously, that's a recipe for failure. I easily wiped out any deficits I earned…
  • I fear this may be a thread where we're all talking to ourselves. That seems to happen sometimes when an OP doesn't get the answer they wanted or expected.
  • You're not alone finding conflicts like this. Even within MFP, entries for the same food can be all over the place. I know it's not much help, but what I do is just make my best guess, comparing what I'm questioning to foods I'm more sure about.
  • With apologies, I'd suggest to stop looking for magical answers and observe the science of weight loss. The Subway diet could provide you 3 meals a day at 500 calories per. You'd lose weight quickly and probably feel fine. There's protein, carbs and fat there. Everything your body needs to survive, assuming you don't have…
  • Guiness is probably the closest thing to diet craft beer. That said, it's nowhere near my favorite. My taste buds want 300 calorie a pint double IPA's. As you can imagine, I can wreck a whole week of calorie deficits in one day of partying.
  • For beer, unfortunately, you have to stay away from all the good ones. The more watery and tasteless the beer, the lower the calories are going to be. It's one of life's cruelest jokes. A great IPA ends up being a huge diet setback. Well, it is if you can consume eight of them in one party-day like I do. Lately, I've been…
  • I dunno. In my 40's, being fat left me sick, in pain and tired all the time. That wasn't fun, though I sure enjoyed the 3500 calorie dinners at BBW. :)
  • Of course. Just eat really filling low calorie food and maintain a caloric deficit. It's going to be more difficult than going without, of course, since booze is calorie dense and doesn't do much to satisfy your hunger.
  • My advice would be don't sweat it too much. 5-20 calorie coffee wasn't what made me fat. I log 20 calories for the little amount of 2% milk I use and that's it. I'm not logging Splenda. I don't log plain, steamed broccoli or a fresh tomato either. Again, those things aren't what made me fat.
  • Weighing daily allowed me to track the numbers and see the direct, inevitable correlation between what I eat and what I weigh. Before, my brain always told me that one more piece of pizza (or five more IPA's) really didn't matter all that much. Obviously, that type of magical thinking will add up over time. So, now, I have…
  • Saying flat out no is wrong. I don't lift, but I did go from completely sedentary to around 1000 steps 5 days a week. Within a few months, my back aches went away, my core was noticeably stronger and I no longer had trouble getting up that one hill in my neighborhood. My legs went from amorphous to chiseled looking by…
  • Every morning after my shower. Being able to track the trends and noticing how exactly my trend follows my CICO has helped me mentally link the undeniable math of CICO to the weight that shows up on the scale. That is key for me.
  • Mudder gave good advice to which I'll add, it's all a game of mathematics. Sometimes the margins between success and failure are pretty slim. Be sure to log everything to the best of your ability.
  • For me, not logging = instafat. I've proven to myself that I can't stay on track unless I'm using MFP religiously.
  • Is loose weight easier to lose than regular weight?
  • Three tbls of PB2, sugar free preserves and 2x40 calorie wheat bread make for a very low cal PB&J and it tastes fantastic to me.
  • Splenda is both delicious and low cal. Any health problems ascribed to it are complete conjecture. (fantasy)
  • I developed sciatic nerve related pain due to poor lifting form over the course of months. I ended up with a ruptured disc that was pressing on the nerve and causing nearly constant leg pain. After a 6-8 months of epidurals and taking it easy, my orthopedist advised me that if it hadn't gotten any better by then, it wasn't…
  • Man, I give myself like 600 calories just for the chips and salsa I know I'm going to eat. Estimate high, but enjoy!
  • Will be there. Last year was the first one I'd missed since 1996 I think. Never wore a costume. It's not really my scene. But then I've never been thin enough not to look ludicrous in the attempt.
  • I love this. Great post. As a natural skeptic, I am not convinced that the warm feeling some folks get by eating "natural" makes them any healthier than those of us who shovel Spenda and Aspartame by the bucket. (All other things being equal) Of course, I respect those who disagree. It takes all kinds.
  • Using the various comments on here as my guidepost, I think I need to wait a little longer for my body to catch up to the Week 2 workout. Where I was okay to progress after 8 attempts at Week 1, I think I'm going to shoot for about 15 tries on Week 2 before I move on. To slainger: Nope, not a typo. I've lost 42-45 pounds…
  • Wow, what a ton of good advice! Thanks y'all. Sorry about the shameless bump earlier. The original post had fallen to the page two abyss with no responses in just fifteen minutes, haha.
