Can you drink a beer or two almost everyday and still lose weight if you exercise and watch what you eat?

Exercising is irrelevant to the question.
You can drink a beer or two almost every day and still lose weight as long as you are in a calorie deficit. Exercise will increase the number of calories you burn, but you could do it without exercise as long as you were still in a deficit.
From a health point of view, you will want to ensure that drinking daily while in a deficit isn't crowding out nutrients you need, but as long as you're accounting for the calories and hitting your goal, you will lose weight.8 -
If you fit it into your calorie goal, than yes. For weight loss, calorie count is what matters.2

Is drinking a beer or two everyday really that important in a very short period of your life you are trying to lose weight, and improve your health?
Dont worry, someone further down in this thread will tell you you are fine - you can drink as much beer as you want, as long as it fits your calories.
Someone will probably also point out that you dont need to exercise to lose weight.

Of course. Just eat really filling low calorie food and maintain a caloric deficit.
It's going to be more difficult than going without, of course, since booze is calorie dense and doesn't do much to satisfy your hunger.0 -

What is the point of this post?
Do you disagree that one will lose weight in a calorie deficit even if one is drinking beer?
Do you disagree that one can lose weight without exercise?5 -
Ditto to above. I will say though when I drink (even just one or two drinks), I tend to make bad food choices. Not saying you're like me, but I find I retain more water and go over my calorie goals with alcohol. Alcohol is the reason I am at a standstill (scale-wise) right now. It's hard being a party animal3

Well, I will say this...and I say it as a "drinking enthusiast"...yes you can lose weight drinking a couple beers, etc everyday...but I've always had the most (and I would say easiest) success when I cut it out during the week.
I'm in a cut right now and the only thing I've really changed is that I'm not drinking during the week...fat is melting off my *kitten* like butter on hot toast...
So, yes, you can...but IMO, it can make things more difficult...but perhaps that is because one or two beers for me usually leads to one or two more and more probable than not, shots of bourbon as well. For some reason I also always crave cheese too and will just nibble on it without my thought or awareness...my wife used to call me her "boozy mouse."4 -

I think this can vary a lot between individuals. If I have a glass of wine or beer before dinner, I find that it often blunts my hunger.1 -
I try to stay away from alcohol during the week. However, if I do feel like having a drink then I'll have red wine instead of beer. It's way less calories and if I really wanted to I could fit a whole bottle of red wine into my calories for the day.1
-
Of course you can as long as it fits into your calorie. But personally for me I can't stop at one or two so I chose to not drink at all because before i know it I will go way over my calories on alcohol.0

If OP brought the question to the doctor. You think the doctor would say: Sure, as long as it fits your calories?

I have never had a doctor tell me that I must eliminate alcohol, that isn't standard medical advice. If OP has a medical condition or a potential abuse issue, her doctor may well recommend that she eliminate alcohol from her diet. But there's no indication that is going on here.
Do you disagree that one will lose weight in a calorie deficit even if one is drinking beer? OP's question was if one could lose weight while drinking beer. You seem to want to substitute a different question so that you can provide a specific answer.3 -
The sheer stupidity of this forum ....
Anyway OP, you got the answer you wanted.

Yes, they would. If a person asks if they can lose weight while drinking a beer or two a day, then the answer is yes, as long as you stay in your deficit. There is no need to scold the OP for wanting to drink alcohol in moderation. It is not "unhealthy" to have an occasional drink. They can also lose weight without exercising. Although exercising is good for you and it will allow you to have a few more calories each day. But if you stay at a calorie deficit it isn't required for weight loss.4 -
I have found that if I run 20+ miles a week I can still lose weight. Less than that I gain or maintain.1

I'm guessing your a prohibitionist or something....
Here was my answer...cwolfman13 wrote: »Well, I will say this...and I say it as a "drinking enthusiast"...yes you can lose weight drinking a couple beers, etc everyday...but I've always had the most (and I would say easiest) success when I cut it out during the week.

I think it pretty much covers the bases...I definitely think it's easier to cut when you cut out the booze...but it's not impossible...I lost most of my initial weight while still drinking most nights...sure, probably not the healthiest thing in the world as I'm not always an alcohol in moderation kinda guy...but you can still lose weight while drinking alcohol...
And, if the OP can truly contain that to one or two, there is actually a lot of evidence that actually show health benefits to drinking in alcohol in moderation...
But like I said...likely you are a prohibitionist...1 -
I understand that it may vary. Alcohol can make you less vigilant about keeping track of calories. Alcohol is a big carbohydrate and may put your carbos out of balance. It is not always a calories in verses energy out calculation for weight loss. There are situations where your body stores simple carbos as fat before they can be burned. You put on weight/increase your fat content, while staying within your calorie plan. But in general, if you are a normal healthy young person (under 40) then sure, go for it and enjoy0
-
Just make room for it in your calorie goal. I'm going with the idea of having a beer or 2 with a meal or as a way to unwind for the day. As someone said, watch how much you eat if you're prone to the drunk munchies.
Also, this might help you choose a lower calorie beer - http://getdrunknotfat.com/2 -

My dad's GP prescribed him beer as a way to deal with his kidney stones.
It's hard to believe, but many people can moderate their alcohol consumption.3 -
As everyone said, yes, you can.0
-
alcohol makes me hungry so i cut it out entirely. Ill go for a beer with friends but i have to stick to one when out of ill come home and want to binge eat my entire fridge... Id sugegst if you want alcohol you go with a low weight loss for the week (.5-1lb tops)
Not much room for alcohol on a 1200 calorie a day for me0 -
If you'd feel deprived without the beers, then start off by trying to establish a decent calorie deficit and well-balanced diet while having your daily pint, but be ready to re-assess your progress down the line.
It might be that you can keep the alcohol consumption to a healthy level, and that you can eat within your limits and not make sub-optimal food choices. But some find that the calories spent on beer would be better spent elsewhere for less hunger, either partially or totally. And some find that they make poorer food choices when they have drunk alcohol.
Personally, I reduce alcohol while dieting, but don't cut it out entirely. Even when I'm not dieting, I try to keep to health guidelines for alcohol consumption.
You'll probably find it easier to balance calories if you usually keep to "a beer" per day, rather than "or two".0 -
cwolfman13 wrote: »And, if the OP can truly contain that to one or two, there is actually a lot of evidence that actually show health benefits to drinking in alcohol in moderation...
I've read studies that link red wine to health benefits, but never just blanket "alcohol".cwolfman13 wrote: »But like I said...likely you are a prohibitionist...
There's a lot of valid reasons to cut alcohol out of your diet when trying to drop weight, and they have nothing to do with the calories in the alcohol. Many people struggle with self-control when they drink, and end up eating more calories as a result. It's a simple fact that alcohol impairs cognitive thinking, and for a lot of people maintaining a calorie deficit is already difficult enough when sober.
I am no prohibitionist, so don't even think I'm against drinking. But I've learned the hard way - I'll be more successful on a calorie deficit if I don't drink. I think this is a safe bet for most people.
The OP asked if it's possible. My answer would be: yes, "possible", but it will be harder. And losing weight, or body fat, is already hard enough.
And there's something else to consider as well: alcoholism. If you can't stop drinking to facilitate weight loss, you may have a very legitimate problem for which you should seek professional help.2 -
And now let us all sing:
"Oh demon alcohol,
Memories I cannot recall,
Who thought I would fall a slave to demon alcohol.
Barley wine, pink gin,
I'll drink anything,
Port, pernod or tequila,
Rum, scotch, vodka on the rocks,
As long as all my troubles disappear."0 -
From personal experience - a hearty Yes! Keep in mind you are ingesting ~300 calories that you don't need, but are oh so delicious!0
