  • I like that hungry feeling, it makes me feel like I'm achieving something. Isn't this the time when the body is burning the reserves (a.k.a. 'fat')? I also think I feel a little more energetic when I'm feeling hungry. If it gets too intense I'll grab something light to help curb it, but for the most part I try to keep…
  • I agree with sunshine. I'm strongest during the day so that's when I shop. If it's not in the house then I can't eat it. Fortunately I'm too lazy at night to get dress to run to the store so I end up with the 'snacks' I do buy and can afford calorie wise. Light yogurts, rice cakes (mmm caramel), light popcorn. I found…
  • I'm a big fan of the progresso light soups. I always keep tossed salad in the frig, with low fat dressings they can be low in cals (the trick there is finding the right dressings you like and having a variety to choose from). I find the LaChoy Bi-Pack chow meins to be a great deal at only 300 cals. And last but not least,…
  • I bought a lot of 4 scales off of ebay a few months back. 3 of them were 'HealthOmeter' brand and one was Taylor. For about 5 days I left them in my living room with a pad to record readings. I would measure them compared to each other and found them to be consistent with each other. On three occasions I cycled through all…
  • If it's what you want then I wish you the best of luck. You sound like such a nice person,, are you sure you want to through all that away just to be a lawyer??

  • I doubt it would kill you, but I think 2 lbs per week is generally considered a little fast. But if you've got a good reason,, go for it. (please note disclaimer on bottom of page)
  • I find a tossed salad good. Also a lettuce/tomato/(ham or turkey) with light mayo or mustard on a hard roll to be quite filling and worth the calories. I try to use lunch as my veggie/fruit time of day.
  • After 35 years of smoking I'm celebrating 11 weeks smoke free. I won't even tell you what it did for my weight lost goal the first 4-5 weeks. But I'm back on track now. Congrats to you.
  • This is one of my biggest problems. Sometimes I eat for reasons other then hunger. Finding better option munchies helps when I feel like munching (sugar free jello, flavored rice cakes, light ice cream) maybe allowing some room in your daily calories for it. Some of the suggestions in the previous post works too. Most…

  • Good post. Finding the 'right way' for you is probably the most important strategy for a life style change to take hold. That includes tools like this web site, journals, blogs and anything else that works for you. I would suggest keeping an open mind to other people's plans and suggestions.
  • My personal belief is that logging is very important. I use to do by it hand too but I wasn't as diligent as I am on-line. Plus the history/reports I found to be pretty revealing. It can be somewhat time consuming at first but common items like a sandwich can be defined as a meal for quicker selection plus the 'frequently…
  • I literally tried a dozen fat free and light types without finding anything I could tolerate. I finally tried the ones made with either canola oil or olive oil and found them to be great. They are about half as much as regular mayo. I couldn't live with out my mayo. Hope this helps.

  • Let this be a less in 'losing focus'. You have the rest of your life to achieve what ever goal you set for yourself. Don't beat yourself up too much. I know it's corny but 'today really is the first day of the rest of your life'. I've always liked that one. Good luck,

  • Welcome, I agree with the previous post, pills may work in the short term, but what I want, I want for life. And that very phrase says it all. LIFE, that means I need to make a LIFE style change. For me that means food journals, exercise, and motivational web sites like this. That's my two cents. I wish you the best of…

  • It's incredible how motivating this site is. I've found keeping a journal so very helpful too. It helps me stay disciplined through out the day. I record every little thing even on the days I go waaaaay over. All I know is, something seems to be working for me. Good luck with your goal,
  • Keep an image in your mind of what you want to achieve, what you want to look like. Think of that when your tempted and if you believe in a higher power, ask them to give you strength. Good Luck,
  • Welcome, you picked a good site to meet your goals. I know because I tried a couple of them before settling on this one. Lots of good support and information as well as easy to use. You can do it.

  • More then I should, but since I'm eating a 1000 less then I would to maintain my current weight, I'm still doing good as long as I only do it occasionally. (the only advantage to being fat is I can eat like a horse and not gain weight  ). all I know is I'm still losing weight so I don't beat myself up to much. One…
  • Welcome! It won't be easy but it will be worth it. Unlike you I havn't always been this heavy. I've gained about 90 pounds over the last 10 years and that's why I can assure you that it's worth it. I felt better, the dating was better and my feelings about myself was better. I wish you the best of luck.
  • Welcome. I'm fairly new myself (3 weeks) but I find this idea of keeping a journal to be very good for me. It keeps me honest and helps keep me motivated. I make better choices during the day knowing I have to account for them later. It also helps me add up ahead of time meals I plan on haveing. Good luck!
