LSATs - Advice and general comments welcomed!

I had dreamed of law school all my life.
A few months before undergrad graduation, found out I was pregnant. Dream deferred.
I am displaced (laid off) as of this Friday. With a dismal job market and no current work prospects, no time like the present to study for the LSATs.
I sit for the exam on September 26th.
Anyone who has taken the LSAT, what advice do you have?
.... How long should I study each day or week?
.... I have Kaplan and Princeton Review study books. I'm going to buy the Logic Bible. What else do I need from a study perspective? How many old LSATs should I buy to practice on?
.... Is it worth it to blow the bank and spend thousands on the tutoring sessions? (In case you've forgotten, they range from $3k - $9k from Princeton Review!)
.... What should I focus on most?
I'm so new to all this, having just 'realized' my dream is within reach recently. Give me any and all advice! I just began my studies this week.
And to those who haven't taken the LSAT, just leave me good wishes!! :flowerforyou:

Good Luck! :flowerforyou: I know nothing about LSATs, except that they're tough. You're a strong woman, and can do this if you put your mind to it.0

i'm taking the LSAT this coming september. from what i've learned, the best thing to do is practice as much as possible. its not necessary to pay for prep classes as long as you can be disciplined and stick to an intense study plan on your own. good luck!0

I took the LSATs a few years back and what I found interesting is that I got the same score on my pre-test as I did on the actual exam (the same happened to me with my ACTs).
I noticed as I practiced my score got better until I got to a point where I overthought everything and my score went back down. My recommendation is that you take a Kaplan course to prepare for the exam and don't over do it on the studying. And don't take the exam until you are ready for it....even if it means cancelling the day before, most law schools will only take your first score, if you re-take it they will average the scores and even put more weight on the first LSAT you took anyways.
Also, don't go crazy with your writing sample, the other parts are more important.
Good luck! Stay calm! Keep doing whatever it is that you are doing that has gotten you here to this point and you'll do great!0 -

I do know if I'm not ready for the September test, I will pay to change the date to December. I want to feel confident.0 -
JL - Thanks! :flowerforyou:
Mriv - hahaha
Lula - so far, that is what I'm planning. Intense studying on my own. I can't see shelling out that kind of money (when I don't have it) for a prep course. What books are you using? How often are you studying right now?0 -
