I'm a an ingineer for the Guvernment; I make it look like I know something about math and physics. So...I probably do not count :)

Reiterate what others of stated- Stronglifts 5x5 is perfect for a beginner; start with no weight on the bar, focus on learning the movements, then add weight to it. I recommend adding 5 pound total increments (2.5 lbs per side). It will keep you going longer. No you won't bulk up and you will not look like a man- as others…

St Mary's- always looking for local people.

lifting does help and will shape you. start out with a 5x5 routine.

I know how you feel. I grew up an extremely fat kid. I lost the weight, but the skin at the bottom of my gut is stretched out from all of the damage. As fat is lost, it shrinks. However, it is still loose to the point where if it is ever to go away- surgery will be needed. I've lived with it for so long that it no longer…

I've been lifting for the past 2 years; however, I started heavy powerlifting about 7 months ago. I'm prepping for a lifting competition in Jan. I just started getting my wife into doing the four main compound movements (teaching her the technique and helping with her programming); she has made terrific progress. I am not…

Oh, an attitude adjustment and listening/reading to adults advice (already provided in this thread) may also make your butt smaller. Q.E.D.

Newb? Yeah, no kidding with these questions. You say you don't want to/know that you cant spot reduce, yet at the same time it sounds like you want to spot reduce. Size 0? Your description of yourself sounds like you are skinny fat. What you need to do are weighted squats and deadlifts. Those will reduce your size while at…

I was a fat kid and completely agree with this. All arguments contrary to this topic/position can be dismissed with one phrase- who is the child and who is the parent in the situation. I won't dare do to my kids what my parents did to me. That being stated- I love obese cats and enjoy over feeding mine.

I'm prepping for my first power lifting competition in Janurary of 2015; trying to push my limits every week to get my numbers higher and higher. This is a new experience for me and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I walk in every morning and not know if this is the day that I will miss the lift or pull/push it and go up 5…

Amazing how this topic pops up now and then....if I were into dudes, hot I guess. Can't tell.

Nicely done on your weight loss. How did you do it- diet, cardio, weights, or a mix ?

Miller light?!?! Shameful :)

My neglectful and verbally abusive parents made me fat as a child; never around, threw junkfood and mcdonalds at me rather than actually cook a meal, mom routinely spouting "Im a business woman not a a mother", and horrible diets themselves. When I was getting close to leaving the house, I dropped the weight. Never looked…

I'll divulge a guy secret...all guys secretly like bigger girls. I publically admit that I like large (and small) women. For me, it is not so much size as it is how healthy, happy, and emotionally put together you are. If a woman is active, outgoing, fun, and just happens to be big, there is no issue at all with dating…

Ignore the scale and focus on how well your clothes are fitting- that's the best motivation of all. Weight loss should be more about body composition rather than a numbers game.

Warrior lunges and IT band stretches are fantastic. I do 3 sets of about a minute of those before deadlifts and squats. You are so right about the tight hip flexors- they will ruin a workout.
-
I know I will get blasted for the following statement. Forget the pilates and start doing actual strength training; I'm talking about the four major lifts- barbell squats, rows/overhead presses, deadlifts, and bench. If you have lower back issues (and this will sound counter intuitive), you should be doing deadlifts;…

Well, I'm a dude so I will pass on the dude above me. Not to say anything about your looks though.

35 and working on trying to lift as much as a 25 (unsuccessfully).

[/quote] Agreed- I learned how not to be a parent from mine. Haven't spoken to my mom in several years and life is good:)

Get the soda out of the house and keep it out, fast food WILL kill you, whole foods are actually cheaper than prepackaged Stouffer's heat-em-up meals, fear is the mind killer, and weight training is actually very good for kids.

I don't drop it. I lower it slowly and with control on all sets; I feel I get more out of the eccentric part of the lift that way.. Except on my 5x10 after my heavy sets- then I lower quickly and with control. To me, it takes more balls to lower your heavy set with control than it does to drop it.

Great- now I want Scrapple now.
-
Scrapple is light years beyond Spam. Spam is for cretins- true connoisseurs enjoy the flavor, spiciness, versatility ,and artery clogging goodness of scrapple. Besides- it's low carb and a great source of protein with all the aminos that you need.

Must be a west coaster.

+1 on the post on the TDEE. Finding out your TDEE is a great place to start and then augment that approach with playing with your macro nutrient breakdown (percent carbs, fats, proteins). Proteins are not only thermogenic (meaning you burn a few calories to process the proteins taken in), but they release hormones which…

Have you ever competed? If so, did you favor one deadlift style over another?
