The difference is that "CrockPot" is a trademark, brand name; slowcooker is the generic name. Kinda like how many people refer to "Kleenex", even when the tissue is not that particular brand.

All of this is great advice!! I also pre-plan my dinners for the week (many crockpot meals as the weather gets colder) before grocery shopping on Sunday. This eliminates the last-minute trips to the store to get something needed to prepare that night's supper, and saves time and stress. I also suggest checking with your…

I ate Chobani for several years and just recently switched to Stonyfield Organic Greek yogurt, 120 calories, 12 g of protein. Main reason for the switch was to eat more natural, less-processed foods.

"Mummies of the World" are at the Buffalo Museum of Science right now, not sure for how long. Check it out: www.sciencebuff.org Can you tell this suggestion is from a teacher?

I was thinking the exact same thing. And I am an elementary teacher.

Mine too! I usually use the gram setting, since the non-metric measurement for many foods is given in terms of capacity (e.g., cups, tablespoons, etc.) rather than weight.

I wasn't trying to lose weight when I quit and, sadly, gained about 30 pounds over the next 2 years. Then a friend got me to join MFP and I had to work (hard) to get that weight off. I chewed sugar-free gum like a fiend when I quit. Then my girlfriend, who's a dental hygienist, told me that was really bad for your teeth.…

Yes, born and raised about 30 miles south of Buffalo. Lived out of state for a number of years, but finally came home.

WNY, although I consider myself more "Great Lakes" than "East Coast."

How bad do you want it?

Use a netti-pot to clear out those sinuses. And an enema to clear out other parts.

WOW! You've earned my respect. I made cookies "for my son" one time, and ate nearly half of them :(

Bismarck wasn't bad. I just needed to move closer to my own family.

Not from ND, but I did live there, in Bismarck, for 3 years. Not enough trees to suit me. Glad to be back home.

An NSV, non-scale victory, would be some type of accomplishment in terms of health/ fitness/ weight that is not simply a number on the scales. Examples would be: fitting into a smaller size, finishing a 5K, getting a random compliment about how good you look, etc.

I'm voting with those who say to check all your settings - age, weight, AND gender. I have a relatively inexpensive HRM that gives me my time and average heart rate. Then I go to an online calculator to figure out my calories burned. On those occasions where I've forgotten to click on "Female" instead of "Male", i get…

My mom had colon cancer, so I've had regular colonoscopies since age 40 - 6 total. My doctor has me on the 3-year plans since he found polyps the last two times. I won't be due again until 2014.

WNY (the whole area around Buffalo NY) and the top two are beef on weck (pronounced "wick") and, of course, chicken wings. Nobody around here calls them Buffalo wings, they're just wings.

Gum. Lots and lots of sugar-free gum. And sugar-free hard candy to suck on. It's important to have something to keep your mouth busy. Low-calorie snacks like celery and carrot sticks are also better to put in your mouth than cigarettes. I gained 25+ pounds in the 2 years after quitting, which is why I ended up here. Your…

Barbecued ribs and grilled corn on the cob out on the deck with all three of my siblings - does life get any better? And my sister brought two desserts! The four of us are only all together about once a year, so yeah, no regrets. And back on track today!

My co-workers didn't notice that I had put on nearly 30 pounds, so I'm not really expecting them to notice when it's gone. I think it does depend on your body and how quickly you're progressing. I gained the weight over 2 1/2 years and am losing about 5 pounds a month. People I see every couple months or so noticed the…
