I'm (just) below my DL weight now, no longer a liar for the first time in 4 years!

I used to drink daily, and was still able to lose weight. However, it often led to temporary setbacks due to binges in eating and drinking and everything that goes with that (hangovers, missed workouts, etc.). I've now cut way back, having a drink 1-2 nights during the week and then having a few on Friday or Saturday…

I think you're on the right track since you already know your LBM. Since you have 198 lbs LBM 200 isn't a good idea, 225-230 would put you more in the 13-15% BF range, which seems like a good plan. Good luck!

Ran 6.3 miles!

1. Weigh in regularly (at least weekly) 2. Use a digital scale to weigh foods for more accurate logging. 3. Take pictures and record measurements (body fat, waist, neck, chest, hips, etc.) at least once per month to track progress. 4. Use Fitbit to encourage more activity every day. 5. Get some friends on MFP and Fitbit to…

Thank you OP, great post. We're leaving for 7 days all-inclusive in a little over a month and my wife and I have both been stressing about it. I still don't want to gain 10 pounds, but I will definitely worry a lot less and enjoy a lot more now and just plan to jump back into my routine once I get back! Thanks again!

Couldn't agree more. Definitely experiment, find out what works for you. Personally, if I am not hungry, I don't eat any of them back, if I am, I eat some back until I'm not hungry. Works for me.

Of course the article is real. We all see it and experience it every day. I think it is important for everyone to read this too and know what we are up against. I also lost a bunch of weight and gained most of it back despite "doing everything right" and developing better lifestyle and eating habits and logging food and…

I also use both a HRM and have used a fitbit daily for the last year. While I like using both, neither are essential. In fact, my weight was flat if not up a bit after increasing my activity with the fitbit. It is a good motivator to get up and move more, which has to be a good thing, but of course the key is to consume…

I also find that I go over my sodium every day. I tend to concentrate only on total calories and I tend to eat too many packaged foods (breakfast sandwiches, etc.) and eat lower calorie restaurant food a couple times a week. It hasn't seemed to keep me from losing weight but it is something that I'd like to clean up a…

I also prefer to run outside but I have recently started to learn to enjoy the treadmill since it is extremely cold and icy here in MN. I listen to movie and watch shows but I have recently started to work on heart rate zone training which I have started to love. Varying the speeds to reach and maintain different heart…

There shouldn't be any math to do. Just eat to your goal and ignore the net calculation.

I just signed up and so did my wife. I had never heard of this before but I love the idea. I love MFP for all the great tools (calorie tracking, and the great people on the message boards) but I have been missing something to give me an extra push to get back on track and I think this will work very well for me.
-
Sounds like an awesome idea! I will join your game.

I'm not sure I would suggest keeping under 1200 calories, but I drink all the time and as long as I'm within my recommended calories, I lose weight at a steady rate. Good luck.
-
Hard to argue with this.

Interesting question posed by the OP and I also think this speaks to me. There is a ton of research that says approximately 80% of those that lose a significant amount of weight (like many of us on MFP have) will regain most if not all that weight. I lost almost 60 pounds a few years ago and regained much of it back. I'm…

I am in too! Great idea and the 20 pounds will get me really close to my goal! Looking forward to losing with you all!
-
I think you'll like it. I really like how it syncs up with MFP and it is definitely good motivation to move more each day! If you have any questions, ask away.

The holiday season usually leads to more parties, and more parties lead to more cheat days for me. But MFP has helped me to keep my cheat days from turning into falling off the wagon for good. I just hop back on after my mini break and keep on trucking along.
-
The answer probably depends on each individual and their tolerance for taking a break and then getting back into a routine. Personally, I usually take 1-2 days per week to slack off from logging and then I'm very careful about logging the other 5-6 days. I've been doing this for a few months now and it tends to yield a…

Glad to see I'm not the only one. I've been averaging 1.5 pounds lost per week but how I get there isn't a very straight line! I usually gain 2-3 pounds over the weekend, lose that back by Tuesday or Wednesday, then drop the other 1.5 pounds over the next couple of days before repeating the cycle! Would be a lot…

It's a fair suggestion. My strategy has been similar to yours. I've cut back from 2-3 per night on week nights to 1-2 per week on week nights and a similar 6 max on weekends. The main thing I've changed is keeping track of all calories, even when drinking. Seems to be working so far.
-
I've tried moderation, it didn't work....
-
On a side note, I've noticed that if I have a couple of mixed drinks at night (hard alcohol with diet pop) I lose 1-2 pounds the next morning weigh in and as long as I don't do that 2 days in a row, the weight stays off (I weigh in daily). I realize it's just water weight again, but it actually doesn't seem to hinder…

I'm in the same boat. Drank quite a bit this weekend and consumed 2600-3100 calories each day Saturday and Sunday (including the beer/booze). Gained 2-3 pounds. It normally comes off in a couple days and then I just go back to losing at my normal 1-2.5 lbs a week after that. Can't help you out on the why though, but I'm…

I use mine all the time and would love some competition as well, I will add you! Anyone else feel free to add me too at: https://www.fitbit.com/user/2CPGZJ

Awesome, this series of posts is very helpful, I have been wondering this for a while. Glad that they all "play" together so well!

Julie, Thanks for posting this, I have the same issue. Have you figured anything out on this yet? I like to keep my mileage in MMR but I think it is double counting the calories since I wear my Fitbit one during treadmill runs. Not sure if it double counts on outdoor runs.
