Easiest Time of Year to Lose Weight
Now that I am in the middle of my second "successful" weight loss journey (I lost almost 60 pounds and hit my goal weight 4 years ago before gaining much of it back), I have noticed something interesting. My long-term sustained losses generally occur during the same time of year (winter). It may have something to do with…

Gadget ideas
I'll admit, I'm a gadget guy. I enjoy using gadgets on this journey as much as possible. I have and religiously use the following gadgets/tools: Fitbit one digital kitchen scale Digital bathroom scale Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor Accu-measure body fat calipers Myotape body tape measure Treadmill Exercise ball Medicine ball…

Maintenance Advice
So, 3 years ago I lost over 55 pounds, reached my goal weight and many fitness goals, but over the next 3 years gained back 45 pounds and was obviously very disappointed by this. I am back and 100% committed and have lost 16+ pounds again and have been logging everything and am on track to get back to my goal again within…

Fitbit calories burned
Has anyone tried eating to their fitbit calorie estimates? Are these accurate?

Logging question
I have a question which I have been struggling with for some time. When I'm trying to log a food and I'm just looking to get a decent approximation, if the food comes up in cups but I prefer to weigh the food in ounces, how do you log this? For example, my wife made a shrimp and broccoli alfredo pasta last night so I typed…

Low Intensity Running
I am currently reading a book that advocates running 80% of the time at low intensity and 20% at medium to high intensity. When I used the information in the book (and a heart rate monitor) I figured that I was doing most of my running at medium to high intensity. Running at low intensity for me means keeping my HR under…

Half marathon question
I am running my first 10k next Saturday and I'm excited about it. I have been running quite a bit in preparation (4x per week ranging from 3-6 miles each day). I just got invited to run a half marathon the following Saturday. Is this too much too soon? Just looking for some advice from more experienced runners. Thanks! Matt

6-pack abs question
When do they start to show? 10% body fat? 8%? I've went from 35% down to about 14% but would love to have visible abs. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Goal reached 53 lbs down with pics!!
I've been waiting a long time to post this! I actually started at 212.6 and I am now at 160 but I thought the 203 picture here looked worse! :) It's taken a lot of hard work but it is so worth it!! Feel free to add me as a friend if you want any support. I am now planning on losing 5 more pounds and continuing to tone up!

Body fat vs. Scale success story
Just wanted to share another reason why I love tracking more than just the scale. I track body composition as well, using a caliper and the 3-point Jackson-Pollock method. Ok, so there may be some measurement error, but I now feel way better about my 0.4 lbs loss this week. Last week my measurement were: 171.2 lbs (19.1%…

1 year, 30 lbs, Progress pictures
So, I was going to wait until I reached my goal but I could sure use some extra motivation to lose the last 23 lbs until I reach my ultimate goal. I love this site and for some reason I find myself addicted to the "success stories" board. It's pretty much the only place I look. So, this first picture is from last…

Ultimate Frisbee
We just played ultimate frisbee over lunch during our bootcamp and wow is that ever a workout! I just entered it in my exercise log and was surprised to see that 40 minutes of playing was 455 calories!! I've been running outside and on the treadmill and can now jog for 30 minutes (5K) but ultimate frisbee was much more…

Just did a 5K over lunch at work!
If you'd have told me I would be down 21 lbs and would be able to run a 5K during lunch at work 9 months ago I'd have laughed! Granted it was a slower time (34:27) and I had to walk a little, I'm still pretty proud of the accomplishment. I'm guessing it will be even easier when I can get these last 30 lbs off! Thanks for…

Very motivated, finally!
So, I've been wanting to introduce myself for a couple weeks now, but just haven't gotten myself to do it. Here goes: I've been on the site for a couple weeks, and I was introduced through the android app. The app is great and I've used it to track calories pretty diligently. I've really enjoyed checking through the…
