  • You may very well be able to come off the medications after weight loss. I know many who have. For recipes or meal suggestions just google WFPB recipes. It stands for Whole foods plant based. Whole grains, fruits, vegetables, minimally processed foods. You don't have to follow them exactly. WFPB suggests no meat or eggs,…
  • I can relate. I have had back problems off and on for probably 40 years. I once gained 30 pounds in 6 months while dealing with delay after delay in getting a disc replaced in my neck. It hurt too much to do anything so just spent my time laying on the couch feeling sorry for myself and snacking. I am going to see the…

  • Hello. I am constantly losing and regaining the same 10-15 pounds. I really need to lose 50 pounds to get me into the "normal" category. I am recently widowed and have made reservations in August for my first solo vacation. It is equal parts scary and exciting to me. I will be doing a lot of walking on my trip. So my goal…
  • I have had mine about a year. Love it. We have cut way back on meat so I use i mostly for soups, chili, and dried beans. My favorite thing is dried beans. Takes about an hour, no adding water, no stirring, no soaking, and they taste like they have been cooking all day. We did use it to cook a ham at christmas, well…
  • apparently there is nothing going on. I came back to MFP to try and connect with people eating plant based, but I'm not finding much.
  • My husband and I have been on it for 6 weeks. We haven't measured anything or tracked any calories. He has lost 20 pounds and I have lost 9. His blood pressure improved quite a bit after just 2 weeks. The documentaries we watched were Forks over Knives and Eating you alive. We are doing it for his blood pressure and…
  • I am not a fan of the surgery. My sister is 52 years old and will spend the rest of her life in a nursing home. The reason is a combination of the damage done by getting so big, and the complications from the surgery, and not taking proper care of herself. IMHO if you can solve the issue of compulsive eating you will not…
  • I can lose weight the fastest on low carb, but I just can't stay on it. So I settle for slower weight loss and just watch the calories. I still have the atkin's shakes for lunch just because they are filling and easy.
  • absolutely she should be checked out by a doctor. But assuming everything checks out, I just want to say that my overweight 7 year old became an obese teenager and a morbidly obese adult. I blame myself every day for that. If I could go back in time, I would find a way to stop that. I would not have any bad foods in the…
  • I avoided 2 things. 1. There were donuts at the office and 2. I went to Kroger for eggs and cheese and they had a bunch of Halloween candy marked WAY down. That was the tough one to pass up.... but I did it. Yea!
  • Oh, I forgot another good one. Beef jerky.
  • Don't let them get you down. You are doing fantastic. A year from now you won't be fat anymore, but they will still be stupid and rude. Hang in there.
  • Awesome. Fifty pounds is fantastic and you have a great attitude. You can find amazing support on this site. I wish you all the best.
  • If you are always hungry, you won't be able to stay with it. But you should be able to eat a deficit without being hungry. I started at 1200 cal (I know , not good), and I was hungry. I went to 1500 and still lost weight, but wasn't hungry. I wasn't hungry, but I did still have cravings. There is a big difference. You need…
  • I have lost weight in the past with only counting carbs, but I have a very hard time staying on that diet for a long period of time. It is just too restrictive. Not even being able to eat an apple is hard to get used to. But when I stay on it, I lose weight quickly.
  • P.S. congratulations on the 50 pounds. That is fantastic.

  • Unless you have high blood pressure or other health problem, don't stress about the sodium. It may cause temporary water retention, but won't affect true weight loss. Or as my doctor told me "salt doesn't make you fat, calories make you fat"

  • I think it looks good. I also lost thirty pounds without too much trouble and then the weight loss stopped. I had a two month plateau. Finally I took about three weeks and ate more and exercised less. Just trying to eat as much as I could without actually gaining weight. After doing that, I went back to my usual routine…
  • Wow! That is fantastic. Good luck with your maintenance.
  • I said a prayer for your Ed. The world needs more good men. Thankfully, I got a good one also.
  • 2 cans of vegetable broth, a chopped onion, one can of black beans, one can of white beans, and one can of kidney beans, one can of rotel tomatoes (mild). I am sure it is loaded with sodium, but it is quick, yummy and filling. You could add some type of meat or pasta if you want, but it is good just like this.
  • I don't do the whole slim fast program, but I have a slim fast almost everyday for lunch. That and a piece of fruit. It works for me because I don't have to try and figure out what to take for lunch every day . And I don't get hungry before supper. I have been doing it for a long time and have lost over 30 pounds. Good…

  • I started on 1200 calories for about a month and was starving. I was losing over a pound a week. I finally went up to 1500 calories. I still lost over a pound a week, but I wasn't hungry anymore. I would recommend you up your calories.
  • When I run out of calories for the day. Sometimes that's at 4, sometimes I get a snack before bed.
  • Just don't get too extreme. Lower your calories, but not too low. Begin to exercise, but don't kill yourself with it. Leave yourself some wiggle room. That way if you plateau, you still have room to drop calories a little more or up the exercise. A wise turtle once said "slow and steady wins the race". Also, by losing it…
  • Break it down into smaller goals. Like 10 pounds before Thanksgiving. Give yourself little (nonfood) rewards when you make that goal. When you mess up (and you will), just forgive yourself and get back on track. Lots of veggies and lots of water and you will do fine. Good luck.
  • NO there were no laboratory experiments performed. The only change I made was giving up the diet drinks and everything else with aspartame. I felt better within just a few days and never had another seizure. The reason I suspected the aspartame was that I was on the internet researching anti seizure medications before my…
  • exercise is not necessary to lose the weight. It is helpful, but you can lose the weight first until you get where you are able to exercise more. You might want to try tart cherry or black cherry juice for the pain. They have helped me a lot with pain issues in the past, but unfortunately they also have a lot of calories.…
  • I don't know. I have given up all artificial sweeteners. Even a small seizure is a very scary thing. It was aspartame in the diet drinks I was drinking, but I decided to give them all up.
