  • I agree with Jonalee. I use an HRM when I exercise, but I love my FitBit One for tracking the rest of my day. It made me realize that even though I exercise most mornings, I then go to work and sit ALL DAY, and then I go home and sit ALL EVENING. This motivates me to get up more often, take the long way around to the…
  • Yes, the flip clips. I put as much as I can in a ponytail, clip the sides, and wear a headband. The sweaty bands are great if they fit. My head is too small, so I like these that are adjustable, but have the same velvet-like lining as the sweaty bands so they stay in place without ripping the hair. http://charmingties.com/…
  • It's definitely mental, and personal. Moderation doesn't work for everyone. When I struggle, I tell myself this: Willpower is a choice between what you want NOW and what you want MOST. It's the best thing I've found to remind myself that I would rather be healthy.
  • http://www.simplyrecipes.com/ Not specifically healthy, but good ingredients and good instructions. I've never been disappointed in one her recipes. http://www.elliekrieger.com/ I love Ellie! She's a nutritionist with a realistic take on healthy, delicious food.
  • I log everything. As everyone has said, without it you can't really see how many calories you consume and achieve the deficit you want to lose weight. I also think if you don't log the good foods like fruits and vegetables and meet your calories with the other things you eat, you're missing the opportunity to make…
  • I'm 4'10" and at goal weight. I don't want to lose any more, but do want to add muscle and get rid of fat. I understand the "skinny fat" issue as I can't get rid of the weight on my thighs! I'm currently inactive due to back problems but I when I'm exercising I like to burn 200-300 calories in a cardio workout 4-5 times a…
  • For those questioning how to determine portions, I actually use the recipe builder to help me determine an appropriate portion. I put in the recipe and a reasonable guess at how many I think the recipe should serve. If the calories come out too high/low, I adjust the number until it's reasonably close to the number of…
  • Fried ice cream. Freeze a ball of vanilla ice cream until it's really hard, roll it in crushed corn flakes, freeze again. Fry quickly just to make the corn flakes crunchy. Top with chocolate sauce and enjoy.
  • All good suggestions for storing leftovers in individual portions and waiting after you eat to make sure you're still hungry. I do that for meals and for snacks. I don't have bags of snacks in my desk at work, I pack individual portions for the day so I don't overeat. If I'm having a snack at home, I measure out a serving…
  • I make soup, healthy casseroles (chicken black bean), curries, frittatas. As someone else also mentioned, I portion it and freeze individual servings so I don't eat the same thing every day and have some variety to pull out of the freezer.
  • I exercise the same amount and increased my calories to maintain instead of lose. I love food. I exercise to stay healthy and relieve stress. It's more a way of life than a diet. If I'm dreading my workout, I try to find something new to mix it up.
  • I've had real trees and never had a problem with the cat eating them. I do avoid poinsettia flowers in the house as they are toxic to cats. You don't have to hang the tree from the ceiling, but tying it to a wall is a good idea so it doesn't tip over. I put stuffed, unbreakable ornaments on the bottom for the tree so it's…
  • I'm 4'10" and joined MFP primarily to maintain a 35 pound weight loss I'd achieved over many years of manual food tracking. If I don't track what I eat, the little cheats add up and I gain. MFP works well for me when I am honest with my food diary and I lost another five pounds. I find that MFP underestimates my calories…
  • I agree with the posts that it's okay to eat an appropriate portion of your favorite cake for your birthday, but if you're not there yet, maybe an angel food cake with berries?
  • I have a Zip and love it. My sister got one first, then got one for me and mom, then a couple friends got them. It's great having a friendly competition to be more active. I wear it on the waist or pocket of my pants and like that I can check the exact number of steps on the display since it won't sync to my iPhone 4. I…

  • Does your local library have DVDs? It's a great way to try new workouts and see if you like them before purchasing.
  • Everyone has given great advice. I lay out my clothes the night before and plan my workout so there are no decisions to be made in the morning, just get up and go. I have one friend who even sleeps in her gym clothes so she's already dressed.
  • Spa treatments are a great reward, a massage, facial, or new haircut/color. I like to cook, so a new kitchen gadget or healthy cookbook.
  • I can't run because of my knee. Everything I've been told/read says that walking a mile will burn just as many calories as running it because you go the same distance, it just takes longer. It is frustrating when you are impatient and want to run, but it's much easier on the joints. I also do other other cardio…
  • 1. whole wheat english muffin with peanut butter & apple 2. soup 3. burrito bowl with brown rice, grilled chicken, salsa, and black beans - homemade or Chipotle (I only eat half of the Chipotle one and have the rest the next day) 4. sushi 5. pasta salad with a light vinaigrette, grilled chicken, and lots of veggies 6.…
  • As Mokey says, one egg has 70 calories. However, Starbucks lists the ingredients of the egg patty as: whole eggs, whey, skim milk, soybean oil, modified food starch, and less than 2% of some other stuff. I'd say about 100 calories.
