  • Interesting that you posted this. We just went to the vet this weekend and realized we were feeding our Siberian Huskies too much. (They are rescues, so we got them at about 1 1/2 years old. They are VERY active.) We figured since we run them 4-5 mi each morning and then walk them at night, they should get more "fuel" to…
  • We have two Siberian Huskies. We run them in the morning (average, about 4+mi) and then a walk in the evenings (1.5mi). A tired husky is a happy husky.
  • Oh, Momma, I know it's hard. Parenting is NOT for wimps! Stand your ground, you got some great advice I've read already. You MUST win this one. It's called a lifestyle change. All must go along for the ride. Be strong! Perhaps battling with the kiddos also burns calories..? :)
  • I get up at 4:45am to workout. There is no way I can eat beforehand. Typically, I will have a half a glass of fruit juice (abt 4oz) before I go out the door. That works for me. Then I come home, I finish the glass, get ready for work, and eat breakfast.
  • Daily Calories: Now, 1500, when I started in September, 1200 Height: 5'2.5" Current weight: 131, started at 166.5 Calories burned from exercise: I shoot for 400-500, 6 days a week. I learned (in one of these forum posts) now that my BMI is within healthy range I should no longer have too much of a calorie deficit. Most of…
  • I wish I could remember when, exactly, it was...but I do recall that it took a while before some were brave enough to say something. It's a touchy thing, especially in the workplace, to put yourself out there like that. But, I would guess that it was close to 20lbs before folks actually said something.
  • That's exactly what I do. I LOVE to bake. And I believe that moderation is key. So, I always plan on giving away most of what I bake--whether it's bringing it to work, or giving it to my kids or MIL.
  • For me, anyway, net calories is when I eat my exercise cals...and I always do. So yes. Eat all of the calories so that you net at least 1200, and more when you are "zagging"
  • There are a couple nights a week where I have this problem too. What I've done is try to make sure that I get most of my calories long before that. (5 small meals ) Then when I get home, I have some peanut butter on toast, and water, of course. That way I don't go to bed too hungry...I work out in the mornings, and the…
  • I understand completely. But, as we women get older, our only choice to make sure that we stay in the size we prefer is sweat. And, unfortunately, with our busy lives, the morning time seems to be the only time to fit it in. I am speaking on most authority. Me and my snooze alarm had a delightful relationship, once upon a…
  • Yup yup yup. I HIGHLY recommend this strategy. It has been the best tool for me as well.
  • I make my banana bread with equal parts whole wheat and regular flour. I really doesn't help the bottom line (calories), but it makes me feel as though I am doing my part in making sure whatever I eat doesn't stay in my gut 'til Jesus comes....I try to do that with other recipes as well (like peanut butter cookies).…
  • I have been considering it as well. I would like to see what others think about it (if they've had it done). A coworker had it done, and she swears by it.
  • I don't hate it. But I do think it's nothing more than a pissing contest. We don't celebrate/acknowledge it at all. My husband's sentiment is that no one's going it tell HIM when to get his wife something... and I feel the same way. We do plenty for one another on other days.
  • Five out of six days I work out in the morning. Four of those days it's at 5:15am. There is just no way I can eat prior... and I haven't. It's been 6 months now that I've been doing that. I then come home, shower, and eat either then, or when I get to work. There have been a couple times where I go to a class that's mid…
  • Dr. Oz mentioned recently on his show that spicy foods help speed up your metabolism. (It was the show where they studied how the metabolism slows down for women in their 40s.) Anyway, eating spicy foods was one way to help that. Jalapenos certainly are spicy!
  • I noticed in your diary you mentioned you have rheumatoid arthritis...are you taking some meds for that? Because that may make it a bit harder to lose weight. But don't stop! And try not to be discouraged. I echo all the encouragement that the rest of the posts state. This is supposed to be a lifestyle, and if you are…
  • The thing I've learn the most from this site, is balance. And while I don't always fall within the parameters set for carbs/sugar/protein, etc., it has caused me to really pay attention to it all and not neglect one food type. The last thing I need to feel in this process is that I am depriving myself. I try to make sure…
  • I work out so that I CAN eat that little bit more. Mixing it up has worked for me...sometimes going over the "net" calories by a bit, sometimes making sure I stay right around my 1200 net (actually, I go a bit more nowadays because I am working out so much, my body seems to need the fuel). It is something you'll just need…
  • Veggie sticks! Yummm! (In the chips section...they look like french fries.)
  • Yes. I never was a morning person. I LOVED sleeping in and would hang on to every last minute I could in bed. Then all things changed...for the good. I'd started out slow, since I was overweight I didn't want to overdo it right at first. So I walked and then started hitting the gym. But it was hard to do it after work. I'd…
  • Why, thank you!
  •
  • GOOD FOR YOU!
  • Mom?! Is that you...? My nutrients, daily, are terrific thankyouverymuch. Jeez. I guess I need to look up vent/rant in the dictionary.
  • Thanks all...I knew it best to stay above the fray...but, sometimes the ugly just needs to come out! Thanks for letting me vent.
  • First on, last off, has been my experience. I am just now getting to actually work on my abs...because, you know, I can SEE them. But for me lots of cardio (running/walking), with stretching and sit ups thrown in has worked. I also do the Body Combat classes at the gym 2-3 times a week, and that works your core like…
  • THAT was awesome! Thanks everyone for sharing!
  • Make sure you are getting enough water (half your body weight in ounces) and try eating 5 small meals a day... And, 117 seems like a great weight! I'm 5'2.5" and will be delighted to get into the 120s.
  • In my (not so extensive) experience, you don't have to eat your exercise calories so long as your net calories is not under 1200. That must remain your minimum. If you can sustain yourself, and you don't fell sluggish or aren't starving, go ahead and bank those as you say. That's the deficit that may end up causing weight…
