I lost 30 pounds by walking during my lunch break every day and drinking a lot of water. I ate reasonably but didn't worry about counting calories, etc. It can be done!

Good luck with whatever methods you choose, but be aware that talking about fad diets and pyramid scheme products on here tends to attract a lot of hostility and trolling.

I find that the occasional diet soda keeps me from indulging in other things, but it really varies from person to person. I've known people who were convinced diet soda gave them more cravings and made them more likely to overeat.

I'm extremely picky about protein powder. I tried about six different ones before I found a brand I like. I use two BSN Syntha-6 protein powders in chocolate cake batter and banana cream. They aren't the cheapest ones available, but they do turn up on sale from time to time on Amazon and eBay. I really can't handle the…

I have found that the secret WOW ingredient for me has been dark cherries. Their powerful flavor covers up anything you might want to hide in your smoothie (greens, etc.) and they make the most beautiful color. I have smoothies for breakfast nearly every day and alternate between fruit flavors and dessert flavors (such as…

Injury can definitely zap one's confidence and drive. I was working with a personal trainer in the spring and making great progress, until an injury made me put it on hold. It has taken me over half a year to get back into a condition where I can push forward again. I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm a little afraid of…

Shredded turkey breast with just a bit of crumbled bacon, sauteed with julienne red bell peppers, chopped spinach, and minced garlic. Squeeze on a bit of lemon juice right at the end. It's essentially a "leftovers" meal. Forego the lemon juice and add eggs and this becomes an omelet worthy of a bed and breakfast.

Most mornings I drink large smoothies made with fruit, leafy greens, milk, ice, and sometimes protein powder. I generally accompany my smoothie with two scrambled eggs. This ends up being around 500 calories. On weekends, I like to make breakfast burritos or breakfast tacos. Potatoes O'Brien (diced potato, bell pepper, and…

Are you a nail-biter? I'd start eating myself uncontrollably if I went on a diet that crazy.

Thanks for speaking out. The biggest thing holding us back right now is fear.

Kenn is the first 4 letters of my last name, and Ka is the first two letters of my first name. When I was an undergraduate student, our college email addresses used that combination of letters, thus KENNKA. I also happen to be a Subaru owner and used to be active in a Subaru-related forum, where I first developed this…

YEAH! This is what Dr. Oz told me to do! Great idea! ;)

Also, it's a good idea to ignore the suggestions of people who conveniently recommend to you the product they are selling.

When I eat fast food nowadays, I'm almost always ordering a kid's meal. It only took one instance of me putting it into my macros to see the benefit of it. This works for me since I typically eat smaller meals more frequently. If it was going to be my only food for half a day or more..or if I was working out, it probably…

Buy a package of pasta, a jar of inexpensive chunky spaghetti sauce, a jar of inexpensive alfredo sauce, some frozen sweet peas, a red bell pepper, and a loaf of french bread. ($10-15 total) Rub some olive oil on the red pepper and BROIL it on HIGH in the oven, turning it each time it turns black. Take it out and put it on…

There are about a thousand better choices out there. But I'm sure all the Body by Vi salespeople on here will try to convince you otherwise.

Oh God... bras. Most days I just don't. I tend to go with the clasp and twist method, but I'd be very interested if someone would explain why the other way is "better for me and my bra."

Tell that to all of the school boards who are working to eliminate teaching of critical thinking and the scientific method.

I once peeled and ate an entire orange... while sleepwalking.

My weight hasn't changed by even a pound for the last month, but I don't let that bother me too much since I lift heavy and I can see my progress. Today I was politely hit on TWICE while at the gym, and the best part.... I was in my swimsuit. Never thought THAT would happen.

I'm quite critical when it comes to television shows. The Netflix original series "House of Cards" is one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Breaking Bad and Downton Abbey are two other series which have kept me extremely interested. Some of my old favorites are Arrested Development, Firefly, Doctor Who, and any…

A bit of childhood shoplifting and a bit of adult ganja. I tend not to speed since my city is riddled with speed cameras. Interestingly enough I did no underage drinking.

Back before I knew anything about muscle loss, I lost 30 pounds in 3 months (and 6-8 sizes) just by drinking tons of water, eating more fiber (which meant eating less overall without being hungry), and taking a 30-minute walk every day. Since I wasn't lifting, I ended up losing weight fast, but was what some might call…

Most on this site will tell you this is a terrible plan, and I agree with them. It's also a pain in the *kitten* to burn 500 calories on the treadmill every day. Wasted time and energy. Either eat a lot more and lift heavy or eat a little above your BMR and do a reasonable amount of daily cardio (like an hour of walking or…

I weigh once a month, but don't put much stock in it. Once a month, I also take my measurements. That and how I feel overall are the important factors in my journey.
