  • I feel the same way from running in the snow/slush. From what I've read, it's because running in the snow engages your muscles differently than running normally does, in particular I believe it makes more use of your stabilizing muscles. I find the same thing if I ever run trails, the uneven/soft ground is harder on my…
  • Glad to hear your second day went well! I wouldn't be afraid to take extra days in between workouts, if I were you. Especially if you're training anywhere where there's still snow on the side walks and such - that will make your workout harder in itself. I'm training for a half marathon right now and regularly find myself…
  • I've been running in up to -26 C weather this winter. My best advice is to wear lots of layers! I found it took me some time to figure out the right combination between wearing too much and too little (for me this means more layers on the bottom than on the top). Also, try to run with your head/face covered since that's…
  • Yeah, I tend to skip his strength training stuff and do my own :P I picked up the Triathlete's Training Bible last year too.. it's interesting, but I honestly still haven't made my way through. Lots of info, but I find some of it a bit too technical/detailed for me I was the same way with the swim, when I did my tri last…
  • This. It's a short enough race that you shouldn't have to do anything particular the day before/morning of :) In terms runs you should be doing, sounds like you've been running fairly consistently as it is. I'd suggest keep doing your 2 mile runs, and gradually increase the distance of one run a week so that you work up to…
  • A good forum is Beginner Triathlete. They have lots of premade training plans available online as well. For my first tri last year, and the ones I'm planning to do this season I've based my training plans off of those in Tom Holland's book '12 Week Triathlete' it's a really good resource for when you're just starting out
  • I've done 30DS, RI30, NMT and 6W6P/KBT (though I didn't make it through those ones). The one I go back to all the time though now it No More Trouble Zones. I do a lot of cardio (running, biking, swimming) so like that it's strength focused, but keeps the intensity up (for me 6W6P and KBT weren't as intense). On days when I…
  • You should have lots of time to prepare for one in October! Most half marathon plans build slowly over 12-16 weeks leading up the race. I'd recommend checking out Hal Higdon's training plans, there's a couple different levels so you can pick one suited to your running experience
  • I had shin splints so bad last year that I could barely walk. I did what most others said, worked on strengthening while taking some time off. I also found that doing more calf stretches helped, and my doctor recommended taking an anti-inflammatory to help them.
  • I'm training for my first half-marathon (as well as doing triathlon training), and have been working through some of Jillian Michael's dvds at the same time (currently finishing up Ripped in 30). What I've found is that I've had to pick one to prioritize over the other.. which for me, is the triathlon/HM training. I…
  • bump for later!
  • I'm in for July. I'm training for my first 2 tris this summer (a "Try a Tri" on Aug. 4th and a sprint on Sept. 1). I'll go for the full Ironman distance (put into kms for my Canadian self..) Swim: 2.4 miles (3.9 km) Cycle: 112 miles (180km) Run: 26.2 miles (42km) I feel like the bike might be hard for me to get in this…
  • If it was a close/best friend who was being cheated on, then I would tell them. If you're that close with someone, I would hope that the friendship would be strong enough to survive. I think it partly also depends what you say/how you say it and what evidence you have.. there's a difference between having a suspicion (ex.…
  • Good for you! I also started triathlon training this spring.. I'm planning on doing 3 throughout the summer, and have already gotten hooked enought that I'm eyeing a half-Ironman for next September!! Lots of good advice in this thread already, if you haven't checked it out yet I'd recommend visiting beginnertriathlete.com,…
  • I had a doctor tell me that my shooting chest pains were from new shoes .. even though I hadn't bought new shoes.
  • NHL: Leafs :blushing:
  • I'm an iPhone owner, but have worked in the past for app developers/RIM so I've used BlackBerry's for work.. and although I love my iPhone there are certain things that I liked a lot more on the BlackBerry. For my iPhone I really like the browsing/game apps (browsing can be slow on BlackBerrys and games aren't the…
  • I'm 22, feel free to add me.. none of my friends are really serious about fitness/weight loss, so it'd be awesome to have some people around the same age for support! SW: 160 CW: 155 Goal: 130-135 Height: 5'6
  • I tried OkCupid and POF a bit last year (I liked OKCupid better.. though I used it longer than POF so that may be why) when I was living in a new city and looking to meet some new people. I never really took it seriously enough to follow through and meet any one in person, but this thread is making me think of trying it…
  • I second that :D
  • You look fantastic, awesome job!
  • Single and searching
  • I'm planning on starting it next week (need to get some decent running shoes first!), so feel free to add me for support :)

  • I just started this week,, finished day 3 today, I thought I was doing alright until I did the workout today - my muscles were feeling it more than I thought! I like it so far, but I have noticed that even on level 1 my knees have been hurting me a bit
