There is a half in my area in October. The most i've ever run is a 5k and i'm not sure if i'd be ready for that by then. Any tips/suggestions for increasing my mileage and preparing for a half?

You should have lots of time to prepare for one in October! Most half marathon plans build slowly over 12-16 weeks leading up the race. I'd recommend checking out Hal Higdon's training plans, there's a couple different levels so you can pick one suited to your running experience0

If you're in 5K shape you should definitely be able to run a half marathon by October! Hal Higdon's plans are good ones, and so are the SmartCoach plans on Runnersworld.com. They allow you to enter your current mileage, race date, etc, and then will generate a custom plan for you.0

I would recommend doing a 5k to 10k bridge running programme and then upping your miles from there. You should have plenty of time to train for a half though! Good luck0

I'm also thinking of doing a 1/2 end of October. I'm currently up to 6 1/2 miles (on a good day) but I do walk some of it. It's something I think I'll never be able to do but would love to say I've done one! Will be interested in the replys!0
