  • Definitely check with your physician and maybe even see a physical therapist for an assessment. When you do get started, a consult with a trainer so that you fully understand good form when lifting would be extremely beneficial. As for losing weight before building muscle, you'll benefit from exercise (especially strength…
  • I'm sorry, I missed your question somehow. I'm certified through World International Training Schools. The course is offered at the state college near me. It included practicals and an internship, so I went with it for the hands on. ACE is a great program! I plan on using them for my CEU's. :)
  • Girls gone strong has some great info on push-up techniques. Pull ups as well. An overwhelming amount of people don't do either correctly. In fact, girls gone strong is a great resource for women who lift. Check it ou!
  • Strength training is always a good idea. There are immense benefits. I'm not familiar with p90x, but there are a lot of good beginner friendly programs on bodybuilding.com. A visit or two with a personal trainer would also be a great intro! Great progress!!
  • Thank you! Unfortunately, it's a highly unregulated industry with a few bad apples. I have a low back injury myself, which is part of the reason I'm in this career now. Trainers aren't physical therapists, but it's our job to help keep clients injury free and functional. The whole point of exercise is to improve your…
  • My personal training certification is not through ACE, but they have great articles and information.
  • This is a good article on the subject. If your goal is fat loss or weight loss then you'd want to do cardio after. Strength training will deplete your glycogen stores and you'll burn more fat. I'd do cardio first if I were training for a cardio specific event. Strength training first will also help ensure that you aren't…
  • You can add me. I'm actively losing fat (slowly) while maintaining muscle and weight. It's a process that requires much patience. Lol.
  • It doesn't sound like you're eating enough, especially for your activity level. Adding in healthy fats like avocado and nut butter is a good way to bump up your calories without having to eat a ton of extra food. It's normal for your breasts to feel less full around this age as well. Def compensate for the formula…
  • I don't consume any because I don't personally think they're necessary and definitely not a suitable replacement for a healthy diet. I would not recommend them even if I did though because personal trainer liability insurance does not cover if someone reacts poorly to a supplement I recommended. Even an all natural meal…
  • We all had it last year. I'm so sorry. It was horrible and lingered for weeks. Right at Christmas. Get better!!!
  • I agree with all of that! A better and more blunt way to phrase my diary stalking is this: I don't keep people that starve themselves on my friends list. I don't believe in it and it is a trigger for me as someone who went down that road as a teenager. If someone is eating 1200 calories a day, working out and complaining…
  • 33 year old mom of two here. They are six and two and I am nursing my toddler. I've lost over 50 lbs and have maintained that loss even after my last pregnancy. I started lifting and fell in love with it. After my second was born and had colick, I left my ten year career in IT to stay home with them. I'm finishing up my…
  • I couldn't even do one four years ago. You'll get there in no time!!! Strength gains happen fast early on. Enjoy them. You're in competition with no one besides the person you were yesterday. Push-ups are no easy task. The fact that you can do any should be celebrated!
  • I did 27 without stopping for the push-up test during my Cpt practical training. I've not attempted to max out like that again. Push-ups took me years, but I love them. I do them almost every day. You're doing awesome!
  • As a personal trainer, I will not recommend supplements to clients and I do not consume them myself other than a multivitamin. If you chose to use any I'd recommend intense scrutiny and research. Supplement geek is a good jumping off point.
  • I'm nursing my 28 month old. I eat anywhere from 2100-2800 per day, depending on my training. I might weaned and gained a couple of pounds, so I'm adjusting the numbers a bit now. 200 per day was a good rough estimate for me, but may not be enough if you're more calorie restrictive. Listen close to how your body feels and…
  • I started with bikini body mommy 2.0 after my second. It's fast, effective, and free. I'm now a personal trainer and would still recommend it to new moms. Great intro into strength with little equipment needed. It's also only 20 min a day from start to finish. That was literally all I had with a colicky baby. Good luck!!!
  • Jaime Eason has a great beginners program on body building.com called live fit. An appointment with a personal trainer is never a bad idea either. They can evaluate your specific situation and offer advice. I agree with a lot of what was said above. The only extra thing I'd add is that your calorie goal is awfully low. I…
  • I have two large herniated disks and do yoga every day to keep pain at bay. That said, you have to listen to your body. For instance, back bends usually don't work for me. All yoga classes are not created equal either. I would go for a mind body or restorative class if you're in any pain.
  • I nursed my daughter until she was three and weaned when I got pregnant. I plan to nurse this guy until he self weans also. I like to quote the WHO recommendations of two years old also and I think it is tons of fun to crack jokes about nursing a high schooler and such. Another favorite of mine is stating my goal of two…
  • You are likely netting below your BMR on your lower days which would contribute to hunger. Owen is four months old and if I eat less than 2000 calories per day I literally feel like I am starving. Most days are closer to 2500. I am losing since I started working out, but slowly. Breastfeeding makes it tricky to figure out…
  • I did hypnobabies and loved it!! I did the home study course and it was half the cost at around $150, but you can check eBay, too. I ended up in over 30 hours of back labor with a posterior baby, but I made it almost 30 hours naturally and I believe hypnobabies helped make it tolerable. Even with such a complicated labor I…
  • I had the same experience. I actually had to quit working at 38 weeks with my daughter because I could not feel any of my fingers. This time I have been eating low sodium and very clean and have had none of those issues. The swelling just started at 40 weeks and a only slight, nothing a little apple cider vinegar cannot…
  • What an awesome update!!! Congrats on your new baby, mama. :):) I am officially two days "over due", but am feeling pretty good and just waiting patiently for my own hypno success story! I shall report back and hopefully soon!
  • I have tracked my food and weight gain for the whole pregnancy (40 weeks today). I do this mainly to watch sodium and other nutrients, like calcium and iron. I have gained about 38 pounds (a little more than I expected), but I feel GREAT and I firmly believe it has kept me eating healthier, though I would never cut…
  • I also had to exclusively pump until we could fix latching issues. My daughter REFUSED to latch for 8 weeks. I am glad I stuck it out because one day, after a nipple shield and lots of crying, she finally got it and latched. So much better after that!! I highly recommend getting the baby back to the breast if you can.
  • I have studied Hypnobabies this entire pregnancy ($150 for the home study) and it has already paid for itself, no matter how the birth goes. I also no longer view birth as an emergency situation or medical ailment, but as a natural and normal bioloigical event. I have slept like a dream since I started listening to the…
