It seems like a lot of people fear insulin, and avoid it at all costs. Be careful of the cost you are paying to avoid it. Insulin is one of the strongest tools against the battle you are fighting. In many cases, using insulin can give you so much more control over your diabetes. Having that control, and knowing that you…

My endo's advice has been to make adjustments no more than 2 units at a time, and no more than once every 3 days. So reduce to 18 units, see where you are for a few days, and adjust again if needed. No major changes like not taking it at all.

I fall into binging when I haven't pre-planned my meal and have to make a snap decision, or when I'm really hungry and don't want to take the time to make (or buy) something healthy. So I do best if I plan my meals ahead of time, and also plan healthy snacks so I don't get overly hungry.

I don't have young kids, but I have seen both products, and actually own multiple kindles. I love the kindle, it is so versitile. But unless you also intend to enjoy it, I would go with the leap frog. She can use it more on her own, and you won't worry about it so much.

What is the name of the book you're referring to? It sounds interesting, I may want to take a look at it.

My husband and I cruise fairly often. I love the all of the healthy food choices, so easily available at every meal. All the fresh fruits, veggies, fish, etc without having to do the prep. I have never gained weight on a cruise. My husband is another story. He loves the easy availablility of all those deserts. My advice?…

Ibuprofin used to help me a great deal, until it ate a hole in my stomach. You are doing the right thing by seeing a doctor. My doctor put me on a once a day anti-inflamitory. Not sure it helps as much as ibuprofin, but at least it makes it livable without the stomach bleeding.

You are doing incredibly well. What you've been doing has been working for you, and working very well. Stick with it. You may not see the loss on the scale right now, but make sure you are taking measurements as well, you may be losing inches. The loss will start again. I almost never agree when people say to eat more to…

Burning 500 calories in an hour is just not a realistic goal for me. My efforts to do that to date have only resulted in injury. For some of us its better to set a goal like that for the day, and break it up into shorter intense efforts, or several longer less intense efforts. Keep the long term goal in mind. Short term…

One more thing, check with your doctor on your meds. It would likely help more to reduce the Amryl than the metformin. I ended up cutting out the Amryl all together.

I had a lot of trouble with this when I first started MFP. First, if it does happen, you need some fast absorbing carbs with your protein, not just protein like cheese. You want to recover as quickly as possible. Since it was a recurring problem, my doctor recommended drinking gatoraid while I exercised. That solved the…

If you eat at your goal calories, are you losing at the rate that you expect? If you are set at sedentary, but are losing faster than the number of pounds per week that you are looking for, then change to lightly active. To some extent it depends on how much of your activity you choose to log, as opposed to include in your…

You look great. You are such an inspiration with your dedication and success.

My answer is to exercise. When I get down its the very last thing I want to do. But when its done I feel better every time. One other thing I learned in a class. Every day, record 5 things you like about yourself or that you do well. Every single day. Go back and read it when you need a boost.

Its not that I prefer to mentally understand words the way they are written, i just can't help it. Somehow my brain just works that way. I really can't imagine preferring not knowing how to spell correctly than having my problem.
-
The only reason that I care is that every single time I read the word correctly in my head, realize the sentance does not make sense, then have to translate the meaning for myself. Its gotten to the point where I just stop reading and move to another topic when I see the error.

Eating huge amounts at one time causes your body to produce large amounts of insulin at one time. Over many years, this can cause stress on your pancreas. Inability to produce adequate insulin is one of the markers of diabetes. I am not saying that binge eating always causes diabetes, but it can be a factor.

If drinking alcohol were all it took to keep my bg down, I'd be an alcoholic. lol. It does have some effect, but for me, not enough to make a difference unless I don't eat.
-
I'm sure many would disagree, but I think that unless you are struggling to lose that very last pound, the time of day you eat makes no difference at all. So plan a snack for bedtime and sleep well.

That's why I love this site so much. When you log it you learn from it. I've made small changes that mean a lot. I love my turkey sub just the same without the cheese, and mustard is just as good as mayo.

I think the breakthrough for me was the first time I actually resisted, and didn't eat. I wondered if I would regret it later, like as in I could have had all this great, free stuff and I missed out on it for no good reason. In reality, I do feel a little bit like that. But I feel a much stronger sense of pride. Like as in…

Bevkus, I think that's a great point. Sometimes its not that the bg reading is truly that low, its that it is lower than what my body is used to.

When I was put on levemir, I started out with a low dose like you did, and with monitoring and doctors advice I continued to increase the dosage until it brought my fasting sugar close to where we wanted it. It took a long time, and the dosage eventually increased up to 100 units, which took two shots to get it all with…

I am generally a very positive, easy to get along with person. Once in a while I'll start getting aggrevated at everything. I've learned to test when that happens, and almost every single time it turns out that I am low. (50 - 60 range.) I have also noticed that when I am high, I get very tired.
-
I think you are making great progress with a lab that age. Try to keep up several short training sessions per day if you can, even 5-10 minutes each is plenty and may make it easier with your kids than trying to do longer sessions.

Whether you should count it depends on the activity level you based your calorie goal on. If you calculated based on being sedentary, you should count it. Any other activity level l would say no.

This is awesome. I think the majority of people on these boards believe they are different.
