Can't Sleep on Empty Stomach

I find that I have a hard time falling asleep if I'm at all hungry. Anyone else have this problem? I know that it's not a good idea to eat right before bedtime, but if I don't, I just toss and turn. Plus, it's carbs that help me fall asleep. I'm looking for any suggestions.

I'm sure many would disagree, but I think that unless you are struggling to lose that very last pound, the time of day you eat makes no difference at all. So plan a snack for bedtime and sleep well.0

It doesn't matter when you choose to eat as it makes little difference to your body. I've found that drinking some Casein protein (extremely thick and frothy) before bed helps me not wake up like a zombie about to attack someone.
But... to each his own.0 -
i always eat a small supper before bed usally a banana and low fat greek yoghurt , i have same problem i can not sleep if i am hungry0

I absolutely cannot sleep when I'm hungry.
I snack before bed-I try to make it something healthy, I plan for it in my calories most of the time. Often it's yogurt and fruit. Sometimes it's toast and cheese. Maybe PB and J. Just enough to take the pangs away, but I try not to eat so much that I feel full.
I'm one of those lifelong yoyo dieters and I do remember there being a time when I trained myself to do it, but then again, I used to have pretty bad insomnia, so who can say if I was really sleeping back then. I just remember training myself to try to change the hunger pangs into feelings of pride. As if Pride at starving yourself will lull you to sleep. So screwed up.0 -
If i eat before i go to bed i wake up in the morning starving like i never ate the day before. Does that happen to anyone else?? i prefer going to bed with a empty stomach, meaning i ate at 7pm so im good until morning time.0

I agree with this. My protein powder and 2% milk gives me a nice boost to get me through the night.0 -
I cannot sleep without eating before bed either!!! So i eat before bed. Find something healthy, that won't make you "full" as such, but will help you get to sleep. Sometimes i make a small snack sized bowl of oats/porridge with a little soy milk, or have some fruit (berries mostly).0

Somebody told me today that going to bed hungry is a sign that you're succeeding at your diet.
Of course... he was an idiot! :noway:0 -
Eat before bed then I do, and have for over 90 lbs lost....if it was diet killer I'd tell you lol0

Cool. Thanks for all the input. A snack before bed it is!
@NaEl1: That sometimes happens to me too. If I eat too much before sleeping, then I wake up absolutely starving. I do try to keep my meals before bed smal partly because of that reason.0 -
I tried not eating after dinner but all I would be is hungry and end up totally over-doing it on cereal in the AM, as my reward for skipping dessert. I got down to my lowest weight this summer eating dessert most nights. However, it's a skinny cow with lite cool whip or something small, not something big.0

I heard that 'when' you eat really does not matter so if you need a late night snack just save some calories and have something - cheese and fruit or nuts are nice but a little protein and fat will fill you up.0 -
I always save some of my cals/carbs for a "bedtime" snack. I found if I don't I have a terrible time falling asleep. So I eat something like fruit or jello. I figured not having a good sleep is worse than eating before bedtime. A good restful night sleep is one of the best thing so the body.0

A nurse told me that if you eat alittle protein before bad that helps in not waking up jittery/shakey.0
